Chapter 83: EPISODE 83: Friendly Rivalry
One day left before the Super Crescent Moon or the Enkephalos Grand Festival! The night when a rare Pokemon descends to the lake to bless the citizens and tourists visiting the area! Who could this strange Pokemon be? The answer will be revealed once the festival takes place.
Now it's time to participate at the Pokemon Battle Cup! The Pokemon Battle Cup is hosted by the PBC or the Pokemon Battle Company. They're a small division of the PLC or the Pokemon League Company. The Pokemon Battle Company is responsible for hosting Battle Competitions aside from the famous Pokemon League!
Examples of these battle competition includes the Pokemon Battle Cup, Pokemon Tag Cup, Clubsplosion, and even the famous Pokemon Junior Cup League in the Unova region! It's my first time to compete in a tournament, so me and Riolu must give it our all.
"Alright buddy, let's complete our mission, and that's to win the Pokemon Battle Cup!" I beamed with excitement and determination.
"You bet Kalem! We're definitely going to win the Pokemon Battle Cup!" Riolu beamed with determination as he hops to my shoulder.
"Heh! Don't forget, me and Luxray are going to win!" Glade beamed with determination as he makes his bed.
"Well yeah!? We'll see about that soon!" I beamed with determination as me and Glade fist-bumped each other.
"Goodluck out there bro!" Glade greeted.
"You to Glade, you'll need it!" I beamed with determination and excitement.
"Glade! Kalem! Hurry, we might not make it on time!" Zhery called from the door.
"Alright, we're coming, let's go Kalem, you don't want to be late right?" Glade teased.
We walked towards the EGS or the Enkephalos Grand Stadium! The stadium isn't that big and isn't that small, but as we walked closer? My heart pumped harder! This is not a gym challenge, in battle competitions... you're not sure how strong your opponents are. That's why it's important to keep a close eye towards their Pokemon's moves and abilities.
Once we arrived at the stadium, there were large flashing lights, huge crowds entering the stadium, I see numerous trainers and tourists train with their bulky Pokemon. In battle competitions, gym badges are not required. You can even compete with a Magikarp! All you need is a Pokemon by your side.
"Well look who it is! If it isn't a loser trainer from loserville!" A trainer teased as he walked close to me.
"Krill! You're competing too!?" I uttered with shock.
"Of course I am! So better quit now before facing humiliation and embarrassment!" Krill mocked with his big head.
"Look! First of all, Kalem isn't a loser, second of all, how sure are you that Kalem's gonna lose against you!?" Camellia badgered with frustration.
"Heh! Let's just see about that! Remember, I haven't lost any match!" Krill boasted and left.
"I'll show him!" I uttered softly with frustration.
"Trainers and competitors, please proceed to the holding room! I repeat, trainers and competitors, please proceed to the holding room!" The speaker instructed and announced.
The crowd went to their respective seats while I and my friends alongside the other trainers walked to the holding room.
"Alright trainers and competitors, welcome to the Pokemon Battle Cup! Please listen to the following rules and regulations which all competitors and trainers must follow strictly:
*The use of foul words is highly discouraged.
*The use of potions or revives are prohibited, especially in the Pokemon League.
*Trainers and Competitors are requested to show humility and sportsmanship during the battle.
*Substitution is allowed during the second stage of the knockout round.
*The victor shall receive the Cerulean Plate!
Now, it's time to discuss the stages and rounds which will take place.
There are two main courses our rounds in this Battle Cup, the Knockouts and the Showdowns. The Knockouts consist of three stages, as well as the Showdowns!

This Battle Cup has a total of 64 competitors, good luck to all of you!" The referee explained and instructed.
A duel is another word for battle, meaning if I make it to the top 32, I and my Pokemons have a chance to become a victor of this Pokemon Battle Cup!
"Later, all of you will be called out to the stage to greet the whole crowd, the Pokemon Battle Cup is about to begin, I wish all of you, Goodluck!" The referee exclaimed and left the room.
"Good morning Enkephalos! I am your commentator Scott!" The commentator walks through the battlefield while the crowd got wild!
"Are you ready to see some spectacular battling styles!?" Scott questioned as the crowd shouted their answers.
"I welcome all of you to the Pokemon Battle Cup! Today we have 64 trainers competing for the Cerulean Plate! Who will triumph? Who will fall?" Scott announced. The crowd giggled and screamed as the trainer cards appeared on the big screen!
"Are you ready to meet these 64 competitors personally!?" Scott questioned as the crowd shouted their answers.
"Alright then! We welcome the 64 trainers and competitors to enter the battlefield!" Scott welcomed as all the trainers began to walk outside. Some came from the left while some came from the right. I and Riolu were extremely worried about what's to come. Will we win? Or will we lose? The answer is to come!
We waved hello at the crowd as they cheered and shouted our names. The trainers around me looked fierce and strong, the bond is my only ally!
"Trainers and competitors, the Knockouts are about to begin! We shall start at the Elimination rounds, only the top 32 competitors can proceed to the duel rounds. Status healers are prohibited as well as potions or revives." Scott explained.
"Now, to officially open the Pokemon Battle Cup Competition, let us welcome Cott and the flag of Enkephalos city!" The commentator announced as a man walked around the arena while wiggling the flag of Enkephalos city! The Pokemon Battle Cup Competition has officially began, there's no turning back now!
"The Knockouts have begun! Competitors, welcome to the elimination rounds. Please look at the screen. Your trainer cards are being shuffled, as the shuffle ends, you'll be partnered with your opponent!" Scott explained as all our cards were shuffled at the big screen. Who will be my first opponent? Hopefully not Krill, I want to battle him last.
"And there we have it! Our first elimination round is between Mark and Joshua! Who will proceed to the duel rounds? Our second match goes to Clarence and Kalem, our third match is Krill vs Glade, fourth is Zhery and Camellia! Fifth..." Scott explained and instructed!
"Riolu, we're number two! I don't know who Clarence is but let's do our best! Oh that reminds me, Glade is up against Krill right from the start." I uttered with worry.
"I'm up against Krill!" Glade shivered and worried.
"You can defeat Krill! Just watch out for his cheats." Zhery warned and comforted.
"Zhery, we're up against each other! I don't think I can battle a friend." Camellia worried.
"You can do this Camellia! Breathe in and breathe out, just pretend we don't know each other and everything will be fine!" Zhery comforted and charmed.
All of us were sent back to the holding room except for Joshua and Mark. While they're battling, I'll be watching, so I could learn there strategies and skills which they might use against me. That's if I defeat Clarence of course.
"The Elimination Round has begun, Mark and Joshua I want a fair fight!" The referee announced as the two trainers glared at each other's eyes.
"Alright Nidoking, burst time!" Mark sent out his Pokemon, a beast with a purple horn.
"Heh heh! Nidoqueen, it's dazzle time!" Joshua sent out Nidoking's counterpart.
"Let the first match of the Elimination rounds, begin!" The referee raised his arm as a signal and symbol that it was time for the battle to start.

The battle was a fierce fight, Nidoking kept using Arm Thrust while Nidoqueen was swift when dodging Nidoking's attacks!
<NIDOKINGG!!>The Pokemon shouts in anger and determination as it tries to hit Nidoqueen!
<Nido! Nido!>The Pokemon laughs and Nidoking's slow speed!
"Alright Nidoqueen, finish with Ice Punch!"
<NIDOO!!!!>The Pokemon blasts off!
"The winner of the first match goes to Nidoqueen and Joshua!" The referee proclaimed as the crowd began to cheer for the winner. The referee held Joshua's right arm into the sky!
"Trainer Kalem, Trainer Clarence, please proceed to the battle arena!" The speaker announced.
"Alright Riolu! This is it... We can do this buddy!" I uttered worriedly as Riolu hops to my shoulder.
"Goodluck Kalem! Win the match so we can battle!" Glade greeted.
"I'll win for sure!" I beamed with excitement and determination.
"On my left, we have Clarence!" Scott proclaimed as Clarence, a trainer with brown hair with white clothes walked towards the battlefield!
"And on my right, we have Kalem!" Scott proclaimed as I tried to walk with confidence and determination.
"Alright you know the rules, please send out your Pokemons!" The referee instructed.
"Magmar Go! Go! Go!" Clarence sent out a red flaming Pokemon with a fiery passion!
"Scyther, I choose you!"
"Is Kalem on a suicide mission or something!? Why would he use a bug type against a fire type!" Zhery uttered with frustration.
"I'm pretty sure that Kalem is aware of that! He must be planning something. Type disadvantages don't matter if you have swiftness to dodge the opponent's attack." Glade explained.
"This will be an easy win!" Clarence smiled and boasted.
"Battle Begin!"

"The match goes to Kalem and Scyther!" The referee announced.
"Aww men! M... Magmar return!" Clarence called back his Pokemon and run and cried out of the stadium.
"Scyther we did it!" I hugged my tired Scyther and returned him to his Pokeball.
The crowd began to cheer my name, I felt happier and more confident re after proceeding to the duel rounds! I am a qualifier of the Pokemon Battle Cup!
"Kalem! You were great!" Camellia complimented as I walked inside the waiting room.
"Thanks, Camellia, I would've lost if it wasn't for Scyther's amazing determination and speed!" I beamed with excitement.
"Trainer Glade and Trainer Krill, please proceed to the Battlefield!" The speaker instructed and announced.
"Glade, good luck out there! It's going to be a tough match!" I greeted.
"Don't worry Kalem, we will battle, I promise!" Glade uttered with determination and shook my hands.
"Luxray, I'll be using you!" Glade played with Luxray's chin.
Glade walked with confidence as he entered the battlefield. Krill walked with arrogance and pride towards the battlefield!
"On my left... We have Krill!" Scott announced as Krill walked out from the shadows. Everybody was cheering for Krill, I guess he has a lot of fans, not to mention that Krill is a strong trainer.
"Alright, you know the rules! One Pokemon each, please send out your Pokemon!" The referee instructed.
"Luxray! Thunder Strike!" Glade's Luxray leaped into action with full confidence!
"Haunter it's haunting time!" Krill sent out his strong and powerful Haunter as Krill's fans screamed his name.
"Let's start shall we!? Battle Begin!" The referee announced and instructed! The crowd's attention was with Krill so far.

"Oh no, Haunter has dozens of opportunities to knock out Luxray in one blow." Camellia worried.
"Belief in Glade, he probably thought of a plan." I comforted.

<Haun Haun Haun!>The Pokemon beams with determination!
"Dream Eater? What kind of move is that?" I queried in confusion.
"Dream Eater is a powerful move which can only hit the target if the target is asleep," Camellia uttered as I started to worry.

"Luxray, you battled great... Now return!" Glade smiled even if he lost.
"No! Glade lost!"I uttered sadly.
"Krill's not called powerful for nothing. Using yawn at the very start and following it up with dream eater? That was a good strategy." Zhery explained.
"Krill defeated Glade just like battling a preschooler!" Camellia compared as Glade walked inside the waiting room.
"Hey... Sorry I lost Kalem, I guess we won't battle." Glade uttered slowly.
"It's ok Glade! I'll avenge you! Don't worry." I comforted.
"You? Avenge your friend? Haha! Are you Iron man or something?" Krill mocked as he entered the room.
"Watch out Krill! I'm coming for you!" I badgered.
"Sure thing, I'll be laughing when you lose!" Krill mocked.
"Trainer Camellia and Trainer Zhery, please proceed to the battlefield!" The speaker called.
"Good luck to the both of you! We'll be cheering for you." Glade greeted.
"Thanks, just remember Camellia! I won't be going easy on you!" Zhery warned.
"Neither am I!" Camellia and Zhery smiled at each other as they walked through the battlefield.
"This is going to be a friendly rivalry!" I teased.
"I agree, but which of our friends will proceed to the duels?" Glade queried.
"On my left, we have, Camellia!!!" Scott proclaimed as Camellia walked with confidence.
"You and Zhery are rivals, focus on winning!" Camellia uttered to herself as she walks with a determined smile on her face.
On my right... I give you, Zhery!" Scott proclaimed as the crowd cheered.
"You can do this Zhery! Concentrate!" Zhery uttered to herself as she walks with confidence.
"Please send out your Pokemons!" The referee instructed.
"Espeon let's go!" Zhery called her newly evolved Eevee to the stage.
"Absol, let's do this!" The maiden of disasters makes a debut in Pokemon Battle Competitions!
"I want a fair fight! Be sport, Battle Begin!!"

Both Pokemons gasped for air as they waited to see which one would fall first!
"Absol stay strong!" Camellia begged.
"Espeon, you can do this!" Zhery cheered.
Absol fell down!
"The winner of the match is Zhe- oh?" The referee was interrupted as Absol stood up again! Espeon fell down!
"I'm sorry, the winner of the match is Camellia and Absol!" The referee explained.
The crowd stood up and cheered for Camellia and Absol!
"Absol we did it! Give me a hug!" Camellia ran to Absol and hugged her head.
"Camellia, congrats!" Zhery went close to Camellia and shook her hands.
"That battle was amazing! Where did those two learn some battle strategies!?" I was in awe as I watched them battle.
"Well Zhery's mother is a champion but I don't know who Camellia's mother is." Glade tried to guess.
"Snorlax use hyper beam!"
"Dodge it Persian!"
"Oh no Scollipede!"
"We did it Beedrill!"
"Butterfree return!"
"Staraptor you did a great job!"
"Endeavor now!"
"Now use Dragon Pulse!"
64 trainers, one victor! Who will reign supreme?
Who shall have the Cerulean Plate? The answer's to come as the journey continues!
