Chapter 51: EPISODE 51: Hopping and Flopping!
Yesterday we solved the mystery behind the Pokemon cry inside the route eleven cave, a shortcut to route twelve, a route filled with lush trees and fresh breeze. It turns out that a shard has pierced through Exploud's leg. It was because of Nate and Cyra's bombardment which caused an earthquake.
As we find Exploud, me and my friends were separated in the cave due to Exploud's loud Pokemon cries. The cries triggered an earthquake that badly damaged Kirlia's leg. After saving Exploud, he gave each of us one stone. Glade was given a firestone, Zhery was given a shiny stone, while Camellia was given a sunstone. Explore gave me a mega stone, a stone used to mega evolve Pokemon with the use of a Mega ring. The ring has another copy of the stone in the center which connects with the mega stone attached to the Pokemon.
Glade told me that there were different types of mega stones, such as Lucarionite, Gardevoirite, or Ampharosite. Mega stones don't apply to all Pokemons, they only work depending on the specie of the Pokemon.
Camellia also told me, in order to activate a mega evolution using the stone, you must secure that your bond with your Pokemon is strong and connected just like in a Z-move. There are many uncertainties about which is stronger, a Z-move or a mega evolution? Some people prefer a Z-move, some prefer a mega evolution but in both power-ups, a bond is required, a bond is always the key.
I was given a mega stone with a pink and green filling or pigment in the center of the stone. We are currently on the way to the Pokemon center, the place where Pokemons can be healed after a battle, to ask nurse Joy about my mega stone and for nurse Joy to check Kirlia's leg.
"There, I can see the Pokemon center!" I beamed as I pointed the Pokemon center in route twelve. We entered the Pokemon center just to find millions or even billions of trainers asking nurse Joy to check their Pokemon. On the side, there was a Pokemon mart and also a restaurant.
We waited in line for almost one hour, but at least it's worth the wait.
"Good afternoon fellow trainers, I am nurse Joy of the route twelve Pokemon center, how may I help you?" Nurse Joy greeted with a surprise.
"Nurse Joy, we need your help, this is my Kirlia, and her leg was badly damaged from a giant boulder which fell unto her in the route eleven cave!" I explained with a rush. Kirlia's condition was getting worse.
"Oh dear, Audino, please bring Kirlia to the emergency room." Nurse Joy instructed Audino, or Nurse Joy's partner Pokemon when it comes to helping out trainers and Pokemons in need.
I scanned Audino with the help of Irys the Pokedex. [Audino! The hearing Pokemon! A normal type, hIt touches others with the feelers on its ears, using the sound of their heartbeats to tell how they are feeling.]
"I'll be back in a minute, for the meantime you four can wait in the nearby restaurant just beside the Pokemon center." Nurse Joy advised as she rushed with Audino.
We followed Nurse Joy's advice and ate some snacks in the restaurant. It's been a long time since I last ate in a restaurant!
"Kalem, don't worry, Kirlia will surely be fine!" Camellia comforted. I was so worried about Kirlia, what if she could never walk? What if her legs stay crippled forever?
"I just hope Kirlia will be able to walk again," I answered solemnly. Riolu and Zorua were trying to comfort me as well while the rest of the Pokemons played in the nearby playground.
"Don't lose hope Kalem! Kirlia will walk again, I'm sure of it." Camellia comforted.
"Yeah Camellia is right, as long as you don't lose hope Kirlia will be fine," Glade added.
Meanwhile at the emergency room, Kirlia was scanned with a PX-ray, or Pokemon X-ray which functions like a normal X-ray but for Pokemons. There are a lot of Pokemons with a thick skin wherein normal X-rays are useless, that's why Macropolis city invented the PX-ray.
"Oh, dear..."Nurse Joy uttered solemnly as she observed Kirlia's PX-ray result.
Meanwhile, Zhery came back to the restaurant after watching and guarding our Pokemons play in the nearby playground.
"So, how are the Pokemons?" Glade wondered as Zhery sat down.
"The Pokemons are having a blast! They surely love playgrounds." Zhery explained with delirium.
"Let me guess, you played with the Pokemons didn't you?" Camellia teased and laugh.
"What!? Of course not, I just observed them play. I'm too old to play in playgrounds and I never liked playgrounds." Zhery explained.
"Oh, that's right. How was Kirlia's result Kalem?"
"No results yet Zhery, and its been three hours already and Nurse Joy haven't called us," I explained and answered solemnly.
"Don't lose hope! Kirlia will get better soon!" Zhery comforted as well.
It was taking so long, and I was getting bored. I decided that it'll be best if I checked what's happening in the emergency room.
"Hey, I'm going to check on Kirlia," I uttered.
"Yeah sure, tell us the results once it's done!" Glade smiled as I went back inside the Pokemon center with Zorua and Rioliu.
The line was getting long, nurse Joy and Audino surely found a problem in Kirlia's leg.
I observed through a window how Audino and Nurse Joy was operating Kirlia's leg. It was a surgery, could Kirlia's leg be that injured? I stood and watched Nurse Joy and Audino for almost an hour.
"We'll try one more time Audino..." Nurse Joy uttered.
Aud... Audino. The Pokemon uttered solemnly.
I waited for two more hours and finally nurse Joy and Audino came out of the emergency room.
"Nurse Joy! How's my Kirlia!?" I queried worriedly.
"Kalem, I think it's better to talk in a private place, please follow me." Nurse Joy instructed. A private place? Something must be wrong. I can feel it.
We sat down in a room and Nurse Joy together with her Audino wasn't looking happy.
"I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news Kalem..." Nurse Joy uttered.
"Bearer of bad news!? Nurse Joy what happened to Kirlia?" I queried. My heartbeat was getting louder as my anxiousness and worry rose up. Zorua and Riolu were eager to know the results.
"When we scanned Kirlia's leg... We found something which we knew that it would be hard to fix..." Nurse Joy handed me the PX-ray of Kirlia.
The PX-ray results were shocking. Both of Kirlia's leg had a fracture, and what's worse... Her bones in the leg were dislocated. I grizzled, I knew what was going to happen.
"We tried our best Kalem, but we couldn't really do it..." Nurse Joy explained.
"A... Are you saying that Kirlia can no longer walk?" I uttered solemnly as tears fell off my eyes.
"I'm sorry to say, but that's true. Kirlia can no longer walk for the rest of her life.
"No Nurse Joy! There must be a way, Kirlia is my Pokemon... How can I battle with her?" I raised my voice a little bit. I started to cry heavily. Riolu and Zorua were trying to comfort me but I couldn't stop crying.
"I'm sorry Kalem, we tried all possible ways, we tried all the latest technologies but Kirlia couldn't walk anymore. I'm sorry."
"But nurse Joy, what am I suppose to do now? Now that Kirlia is paraplegic... How can I battle with her?" I queried. I tried to stop my tears but I really couldn't. Knowing that a Pokemon who cares so much for me is now paraplegic is hard for me to accept.
"I can give you two options, number one is that I suggest to release Kirlia and catch another one. Or, you can send it to professor Bellice's Pokemon room." Nurse Joy suggested.
"What!? No way! I'm not doing those! Kirlia is a special Pokemon, she is my Pokemon. I'm contented with her and I don't need to find a new Kirlia which will replace her." I raised my voice but cried at the same time.
"I can't really do anything about it, Pokemons who become paraplegic are mostly released by other trainers then they'll just find new ones of the same species."
"About this nurse Joy? What kind of mega stone is this?" I queried as I showed nurse Joy my Mega ring and my mega stone.
"That's... That's a Gardevoirite, it's used to mega evolve a Gardevoir." Nurse Joy explained.
"And now... My only Pokemon which can mega evolve is now crippled for life..." I answered solemnly.
"I really have to go now, Kirlia is in the emergency room if you wish to see her. But I really suggest that you release her and catch a new one so that your Gardevoirite won't be useless. Come on Audino, everybody is waiting." Nurse Joy advised solemnly and left the room.
I placed my head on the table and cried.
"What now Kalem, Kirlia is unable to walk... We can't just release Kirlia and capture a new one." Riolu questioned.
I didn't notice Riolu, I just continued to cry.
"Riolu let Kalem be, he's already stressed with the results. He'll surely decide on something. But for now, I'm going to sleep." Zorua advised as she stretched her four paws and fell asleep silently.
Riolu agreed with Zorua and just stared at me the whole time waiting for me to notice him and stop crying.
"Where could that Kalem be? He's taking too long!" Zhery badgered in boredom.
"We have to wait, Kirlia's injury must've been a grave one," Camellia advised. While Zhery was walking due to boredom, she saw a cute wild Pokemon hopping and flopping around the grass. It seems like she was looking for something.
"Hey Irys, please scan that Pokemon for me please." Zhery pleaded.
"Sure thing, that Pokemon is called Buneary. [Buneary! The Rabbit Pokemon! A normal type! Its arms and legs are weak, but when it rolls its ears uptight and then unleashes them with its full force, it can smash boulders to dust.]" Irys the Pokedex explained.
"Oh, so that's a Buneary, but why does it seem lost?" Zhery queried unto herself.
She went close to the Buneary and asked if she was looking for something or someone.
"Excuse me Buneary, my name is Zhery. Do you need help with anything? You seem to be lost." Zhery comforted but as she was about to touch Buneary but Buneary jumped and hid in the bushes.
Buneary seems to be frightened because of Zhery."Don't worry Bunneary, I won't hurt you. In fact I'm trying to help you." Zhery explained and smiled at Buneary.
Buneary was still scared and hopped into the other tree.
Zhery followed Buneary, "Here have this Pecha Berry. It's delicious I promise." Zhery offered.
Bunneary looked at the Pecha Berry and went close to Zhery slowly by slowly. She quickly grabbed the berry and hid behind the tree. Buneary started to eat the berry, she liked and loved the Pecha berry.
"See, I told you Pecha Berries are delicious. Come on out, I won't hurt you." Zhery comforted. Slowly by slowly Buneary hopped and flopped to Zhery.
"Do you have a trainer or somethin'?" Zhery queried.
Buneary nodded her head sideways. She went near Zhery and sat on her lap as she continued to eat the Pecha berry.
"Wait, you don't have a trainer? Were you abandoned or somethin'?" Zhery queried.
Buneary nodded sideways. "Oh, so you're just a wild Pokemon lurking here. You must be hungry that's why you were near the restaurant were you?" Zhery hunched.
Buneary nodded as she took another bite of the Pecha berry. "Here, I have more if you like." Zhery offered more Pecha berries to Buneary.
Buneary smiled at Zhery and took some of them. She ate them at Zhery's lap. "You must be really hungry are you Buneary?" She smiled and queried as Buneary nodded her head.
"Alright Buneary, take care alright. I'll be going now." Zhery greeted as she placed Buneary at the floor. Zhery started to walk back to the restaurant but Buneary followed her.
"Hey Zhery, how was your boredom walk?" Glade teased.
"Huh? Kalem isn't here yet?" Zhery queried.
"Yeah... I'm starting to worry again." Camellia answered with a worried voice.
"Well, I met a cute Pokemon! Her name was Buneary. It was super adorable!" Zhery complemented. Buneary was stalking in the window, she heard what Zhery said and blushed.
"Woah, that's cool! I wished I could've met Buneary." Camellia dreamed.
"I gave her some Pecha berries before she left. I never knew that Bunearies love berries!" Zhery teased.
"Hey, I think we should check on Kalem... He's taking too long already." Camellia advised worriedly.
"Yeah, you're right. It's almost dinner anyways." Glade agreed.
Zhery, Glade, and Camellia left the restaurant when suddenly Buneary followed Zhery.
:Bun! Bun! The Pokemon yelped for joy.
Zhery looked behind her and saw Buneary.
"Oh, hi Buneary! These are my friends Glade and Camellia." Zhery introduced.
Glade and Camellia introduced themselves to the cute Pokemon.
Buneary smiled back and hugged Zhery's leg. She smiled at Zhery and cuddled her leg.
"Oh, is there a problem Buneary?" Zhery queried.
Buneary smiled at Zhery and continued to cuddle her.
"I think that Buneary wants to join your team!" Glade hunched.
"Huh? Is that true Buneary?" Zhery wondered.
Buneary nodded yes to Zhery and continued to cuddle Zhery tightly. "If that's so, just press the button Buneary!" Zhery instructed happily as she took one Pokeball from her Pocket. Buneary quickly touched the Pokeball and didn't hesitate to be caught.
"I just caught a Buneary!" Zhery jumped and boasted!
"I can't wait to show Kalem my new Pokemon!" Zhery beamed.
"Well then, let's hurry up and gather our Pokemons from the playground," Glade advised.
The three of them went to the playground. Zhery introduced Buneary to all of the Pokemons and Buneary was greeted back with a warm heart and a ton of smiles! They then went to the Pokemon center to check Kirlia and me.
I started to walk to the Kirlia in the emergency room. I was looking sad and I was even sobbing.
As I entered the room, I hugged Kirlia and sobbed.
"Kirlia..." I uttered softly.
"I'm sorry Kalem that I couldn't walk anymore. Please don't release me like the other trainers. I still... I still want to be with you. You're my friend right? You promised that." Kirlia sobbed and hugged me back. She couldn't really lift her leg nor could she feel it.
"I would never release you Kirlia, it's fine with me if you can no longer walk. I can adjust to that." I sobbed and cried as I hugged Kirlia.
"But I want to battle. I love battling, I love to walk by your side..." Kirlia explained as tears dropped from her eyes.
"I'm sorry, but you can no longer battle. You have to stay in your Pokeball for now Kirlia. I'm really sorry." I explained solemnly.
"No! But I want to stay with you. I want to walk by your side! I don't want to stay in a Pokeball. I want to battle... I want to protect you Kalem..." Kirlia explained.
"I'm sorry, but your Pokeball is your home for now until we find another way. I returned Kirlia to the Pokeball. I was starting to regret capturing Kirlia. If I didn't ask her to join me and my team... She wouldn't end up like this. But I love Kirlia... She's my Pokemon.
Glade, Zhery, and Camellia saw me in the lobby looking sad.
"Hey Kalem, tell us what happened?" Glade asked.
"I'm sorry, I'm not in the mood right now," I uttered as I exited the doors of the Pokemon center.
"Kalem? Where do you think you're going?" Zhery called my name as I walked farther. Camellia rushed in front of me and blocked me from walking.
"Tell me what's wrong Kalem, we can help you... We promise" Camellia comforted.
"Leave me alone, I don't want anyone to bother me right now," I uttered as I tried to pass Camellia but she blocked me again.
"Tell us what happened. We're are friend Kalem." Camellia comforted.
We sat down on a small wooden bench outside the Pokemon center. The sun was about to set and the moon has awakened. I was forced to tell them what happened to Kirlia. I pulled myself together and began to talk...
