Chapter 29: EPISODE 29: Sharpening the team!
Norva City, the site of my first gym badge is in spitting distance. Norva City, a city sleeping on the shores of this region. They're famous for the great Norva Museum, a museum filled with priceless artifacts obtained under the Norva bay. I could feel the breeze coming close to me as we approach Norva City. Admiral Brooke, the water specialist or the water gym leader is a skilled trainer when he was young. This made me anxious about whether I could defeat him and earn my first badge or if I will lose and just try again. But in both ways, I still need to sharpen up! Especially for the new addition to my team. Scyther, a bug type Pokemon, who was badly mistreated by Krill or my rival. Krill got fed up with Scyther and released him permanently from his Pokeball. Me, Camellia, Zhery, and Glade, gave our sympathy to Scyther. Then Scyther, a Pokemon with a passionate heart and a hardworking mindset decided to join me and my team.
"Alright! Scyther, Riolu, and Zorua! Its lunchtime!" I called as the three of them played near the shore.
"Luxio, Pansear, play later, the food is ready!" Glade called unto his Pokemon.
As we ate our lunch together, I noticed that Scyther wouldn't eat, he was just staring at his food, looking sad and solemn.
"Hey Scyther, is there a problem?" I queried as I stood from my sit to approach him.
Scyth... Scyth... Scyther...
I couldn't understand what Scyther was saying, this reminded me of the Poketrans gem that my mother gave me. Riolu and Zorua already has one, if I put one Poketrans gem on Scyther, I would have three Poketrans gem left.
"Here Scyther, I want you to wear this. Its called a Poketrans gem... This lets me understand the words you say, and this is proof that you're my Pokemon. Look, Riolu and Zorua has one too, and I think you deserve one too!" Scyther wore the gem, it looked perfect on Scyther. He began to speak with a solemn voice.
"I... I'm not use to eating in a bowl..." Scyther explained.
"Your previous trainer, how does he feed you?" I queried.
"I... I only eat once a day or maybe none at all depending on my performance." Scyther explained with a solemn voice.
"Well here, your a family member, and Pokemon deserves to eat because of their hard work... Your one of those Pokemon, I know it's hard to forget what happened in the past but soon, you'll get used to it!" I comforted Scyther as he began to sob.
On the other hand, Camellia, Zhery and Glade were watching me and Scyther.
"Such a good trainer Kalem is..." Glade complemented.
"I know right, that's why I admire Kalem, aside from his skills and passion he loves Pokemon and treats all of them fairly caught or not caught." Camellia agreed.
"Wait you have admire Kalem?" Glade queried.
"Yup, since the day he helped me from the cave, I couldn't forget him," Camellia added.
"Haha! You just knew that Glade? I knew that since we were in Covelry town!" Zhery teased.
"I didn't know, I'm not a great secret finder you know," Glade explained.
In the meanwhile, Scyther hugged me real tight! He thanked me for everything. It was his first time to be treated fairly. Riolu gave Scyther a berry as a sign of care. The other Pokemons comforted Scyther too.
"You see Scyther! There's nothing to be afraid of! All the Pokemons around you love you! You are a family here." I added as I hugged and comforted Scyther.
Scyther took his first bite on the food that Camellia cooked. "So how is it Scyther? Is it delicious?" I surveyed.
"I... I love it..." Scyther complemented and sobbed with joy.
"See! I told you so! Camellia's cooking is the best!" I complimented and hugged Scyther one more time before I went back to eat with my other friends. Scyther felt love and belongingness unlike before.
It's around three in the afternoon, and another dog day (Very hot day) indeed. It was a perfect time to train for my Norva gym battle! So the four of us went on top of a steep hill to sharpen and hone my Pokemon's strength and power in battle.
"May I volunteer to battle you Kalem?" Camellia queried with eagerness.
"Yeah sure Camellia! In that way Fennekin can also train harder!" I accepted Camellia's request as Zhery volunteered to become the referee.
"Alright! Each trainer will use two Pokemons each! The trainer who has no more Pokemon to battle with loses the match!" Zhery proclaimed.
"Alright trainers! Please send out your first Pokemon!" Zhery added.
"Fennekin its training time!"
"Scyther! Let's see what moves you know!"
"Kalem, Scyther knows three moves, Wing attack! Sword dance! And Fury attack!" Irys the Pokedex explained.
"Thanks for the information Irys!" I greeted and thanked them.
"Scyther is a disadvantage since Fennekin is a fire type and Scyther is a bug type... And bug types are weak against fire-type Pokemons." Zhery observed and concurred.
"You may be right, but remember that Fennekin doesn't have much experience yet rather than Scyther even if it's newly caught it must have some battling experiences with Krill!" Glade objected.
"This is your first battle with me Scyther! Do your best!" I complimented.
"Fennekin! Don't get intimidated with Scyther's size! You're an advantage against it!" Camellia warmed Fennekin's intimidating eyes.
"Are both trainers ready to battle?"
"Yes, we are!" The both of us beamed.
"Then the battle begin!"
"Fennekin use ember!"
"Scyther use double team!"
*Scyther's evasiveness rose! Ember missed.*
"So that's what double team does, it sends out multiple copies of the Pokemon using it to confuse the foe!" Camellia wondered.
"Fennekin use ember on all the copies until you hit the right Scyther!"
"Scyther let's confuse Fennekin! Use wing attack!"
"Come on brain work! Aha I know what to do! Fennekin jump to miss that wing attack!"
"An impressive dodge Fennekin and Camellia! Your not so bad at battling after all!" I complimented.
"Thanks Kalem..."Camellia's cheek turned pale.
"Scyther use sword dance!" Scyther followed what I said and a large amount of blue swords began circling Scyther and knighted Scyther.
"Sword dance? What does that do?" Camellia wondered.
"Watch out Camellia! Sword dance increases the Pokemon's attack power!" Glade warned.
"Then we must attack first before Scyther unleashes his powerful move! Fennekin use ember!"
Scyther was hit with ember damaging Scyther badly due to the fact, that Scyther's weakness is a fire type Pokemon.
"Scyther are you alright?"
"Ember's nothing! I can still fight on!" Scyther beamed.
"Alright Scyther! Use wing attack!"
"Fennekin jump up! like before!"
"Not this time! Scyther use wing attack on the air this time!"
"Fennekin use fire fang on Scyther's wing!"
Fennekin bit Scyther's wing with fire fang! Scyther began to burn and fall down.
"Fennekin knows Fire fang!?" I was shocked. I thought Fennekin only knows the move ember and scratch.
"Surprise aren't you Kalem? Of course me and Fennekin did some practice to Kalem!"
"Scyther is unable to battle! Kalem please choose your next Pokemon!"
"Scyther good job! You're amazing! You can rest in your Pokeball!" Scyther was shocked that I complimented him, No one ever said that to him before, Krill always called him weak every time Scyther loses.
"Zorua lets go!"
"So that's Zorua, the Pokemon that defeated my Fennekin in Covelry town!"
"Zorua use Pursuit!"
"Fennekin use ember before Zorua hits you with pursuit!"
"I don't think so! Zorua move in a diagonal position."
Fennekin was unable to dodge and was hit hard with Zorua's pursuit.
"Fennekin is unable to battle! Camellia please choose your last Pokemon!"
"This battle is getting intense!" Glade commented.
"Ivy! Let's show them!"
I saw Camellia's hand getting something from her pocket which gave me a surprise.
"You have a Z-Crystal!?"
"Yup, it's an Eeveeium Z that my father gave me from the Alola region!"
"Well Zorua! We got to watch out for that!" I wondered if Camellia was able to master his Eeveeium Z crystal, me and Riolu haven't mastered ours.
"Eevee use tackle!"
"Zorua counter with tackle too!"
Eevee and Zorua collided when suddenly, "Eevee! Its time to use our Z-move!"
I was in awe! They were going to use a Z-move I've never seen before! "Zorua watch out!
Camellia's Z-ring began to glow! "Eevee! We combine as one till our hearts content! USE EXTREME EVOBOOST!"
Minutes later all of the Eeveelutions came to Eevee and powered up its attack. Glade stood up in awe and Zhery was shocked. In the meantime, I was hoping that Camellia's move won't work... but Zorua got blasted and the Z-move was unleashed.
"Zorua No!" The Eeveelutions went back to its trainer as Zorua fainted.
"The winner is Eevee and Camellia!" Zhery proclaimed.
I went closer to Camellia and Eevee.
"I didn't know that you have great battling skills Camellia!" I complimented.
"Thank you Kalem, I trained with my mother when I was young," Camellia explained.
"And that Z-move, it's remarkable!" I added.
"I wanted to ask you if you can help me and Riolu master our fighting Z! Please!" I begged.
"You're asking me to help you? No problem Kalem!" Camellia beamed as her cheeks turned slightly red.
"So Kalem, are you ready for your gym battle?" Glade asked.
"Yup! I'm going to flood the Norva gym!" I teased.
"Then what are you waiting for look!" Zhery pointed.
"It... Its Norva city!" Camellia beamed.
"Then! Come on! My gym battle can't wait!" I beamed as the journey continues.
