Chapter 9: EPISODE 9: Battling with style!
Ah-ha! You probably thought I woke up late didn't you? Your wrong! In fact! I was so excited to rematch Marley and his Sceptile, me and Riolu even woke up around 6 am, when the sun was young and the people were still asleep.
Me and Riolu walked all the way back to the lake. After hearing about Milotic or the guardian of Lake wisdom from Zhery, me and Riolu were so eager to battle the guardian!
"I've lost before, but I won't lose again" I said to my mind all over again to awaken my determined spirit!
Riolu on the other hand looked very pumped up! It was like a fireball has hit him hard or somethin'
On our way to the lake, we challenged wild Pokemons in the area.
"Riolu use quick attack!" "Riolu use Karate chop!" I instructed Riolu to use those moves towards the wild Pokemon.
All those Pokemon fainted one by one!
and our confidence was boosted by about 101%
"Alright Riolu, we have arrived at the lakefront lets challenge Milotic and show that Pokemon what were made off!"
The ambiance was cool as we walked closer to the lake, the water from the lake was warm and the breeze was cold. In front of the lake, we saw an old bald man standing and looking at the waves, wearing a white coat and a pair of shades. He had a white mustache and an orange tie.
He seemed to look sad, so I approached him and asked.
"Excuse me sir, but is there anything wrong?"
"No.. No... Nothing's wrong, I just came here to visit the Silver-heart city lab"
His voice... The old man's voice seemed familiar to me and Riolu, I'm sure I've heard that voice somewhere.
"Terrible right? A lot of innocent professors died, including my parents" I told the old man.
"So... You must be an orphan right kid?"
"Yeah..." I answered with respect.
"May I ask, are you the son of professor Lyra and professor Cypress?"
"Y... Yes I am... but how did you know that they are my parents?"
"You've got your father's looks, I used to work by your father's side, for about four years when they were still in the Kanto region"
"So you've met my father?! But what do you mean you "used" to work with my father?"
"Your father was my apprentice, I trained and mentored him to become a great professor. He did become a great and famous professor, and moments later, I've heard that my apprentice Cypress married a woman, your mother. I was so happy for my apprentice, your father, your mother and I, soon started to work on projects, projects that would help advance Pokemon technology."
"But something went wrong... the Government didn't approve our idea." he continued.
"What idea?" I asked.
"There was an idea, to create a new Pokemon, a strong and powerful Pokemon used to defeat a certain enemy."
"The government didn't approve the idea, as it might cause havoc and turn over to evil."
"Your father and mother were sad that the idea was canceled. They didn't believe that their idea could cause havoc. So... your father called me, he asked me to help him and your mother, at first I had doubts but... I agreed anyway. We did create a Pokemon! It was called Gen-45b. The morning after the Pokemon was created... It was stolen from plain sight. From there, your mother and father pledged to find the Gen-45b, so they left the Kanto region..."
"Then what? What happened next?" I asked eagerly.
"I don't know kid, that's why I came here. " the old man excused.
"May I know your name sir? Your voice sounds familiar!"
"My name is Blaine... A professor and a gym leader of the Kanto region. And you must be Kalem right? Your father sent me letters and pictures of you."
"You're THE professor Blaine?" I asked.
"Didn't I just told you my name? By the way kid, what are you doing here in lake Wisdom?"
"Well you see... professor Blaine, I came here to challenge Milotic..."
"Ahhh... Milotic you say? The guardian Pokemon of Lake wisdom?"
"Yes... professor! Me and Riolu wanted to train for our match later."
"If that's the case, why don't you battle me instead?"
"Me? battle THE professor Blaine! I'll be honored to do so!" I said with excitement.
"Alright then, let's have a one on one Pokemon battle! shall we?"
"Alright professor!"
"Remember kid... Just because I worked with your father doesn't mean I'll be easy on you!"
Seconds later, my match with Blaine started and each of us sent out one Pokemon each.
"Come on out Arcanine!" I was in awe with Blaine's Arcanine, it had a fiery spirit.
"Riolu, don't get intimidated!"
"Alright kid, I'll give you the first move."
"If you say so... Riolu lets try your new move, use QUICK ATTACK!!"
"Arcanine, dodge the attack with Extreme Speed"
*Arcanine dodges quick attack!*
"Extreme speed, what kind of move was that?"
"Battle now, talk later! Arcanine use Flare Blitz!"
"Riolu try countering with quick attack!'
*Both Riolu and Arcanine took damage*
"You've got a strong and determined Riolu there!" Blaine complemented.
"Thanks professor..."
"But my Arcanine is even stronger! Arcanine use flare blitz once more!"
"Then we'll counter that move again with quick attack!"
"Not this time my boy! Arcanine Jump! Then pounce on Riolu!"
*Riolu's quick attack missed!*
*Flare blitz knocked out Riolu!*
"And our battle is over kid."
"Well what can we expect? We were battling not only a professor but also a gym leader!" I said in amusement.
"But even though you lost, the way you battle is remarkable."
"Really professor Blaine? thanks so much!"
"It's not about winning, its how you fought!" Blaine quoted.
"Now run along now kid, its almost time for your breakfast isn't it?"
"Ah! Right... Thanks for reminding me and Riolu professor!"
"Until we meet again kid! Oh by the way, don't tell anyone about Gen-45b, I trust you."
"Don't worry I won't tell anyone professor! I promise!"
And just like that, I and Riolu rushed off back to the orphanage, we didn't go back to our room, instead, we went directly to the dining hall, after all, breakfast starts in 5 minutes.
"Kalem! There you are, me and Zhery were looking for you!"
"Hehe... I'm sorry Glade, I woke up early to train with Riolu for our rematch today."
"Train? Where did you train? And how come you didn't tell us?"
"Well I told you know didn't I? And besides you were still asleep by that time."
"Your really unpredictable Kalem..."
After breakfast, we were all instructed to go to the battle stadium with Sir Copper.
"So... Kalem! Where have you been?" Zhery asked me while we were walking.
"Kalem woke up early to train with his Riolu" Glade explained.
"So where did the both of you trained?"
Zhery asked.
"We trained in lake Wisdom with Blaine"
"Blaine? Blaine the gym leader and professor of the Kanto region!?" Glade asked.
"Yup..." I answered.
"You're so lucky Kalem! You should have woken me up!" Glade said.
"So... Did you defeat Blaine?" Glade questioned.
"Of course Kalem lost, right Kalem? Blaine is a gym leader and an intelligent man as well, there's no way Kalem could have win!" Zhery teased.
"Ummm... Zhery's correct, I lost but the way Blaine battled was so amusing!"
We finally arrived at the Battle Stadium, Sir Copper instructed us to sit down and listen to what he'll say.
"Good morning children, today we'll be learning about Pokemon type disadvantages..." Sir Copper stated.
"What? But I was so excited to battle Marley!" I complained.
"Well, we just have to wait and listen to what Sir Copper has to teach!" Glade told me.
"As we all know, the grass is weak to fire but fire is weak to water and water is weak to grass..." Sir Copper stated.
We needed to wait for thirty minutes for Sir Copper's lecture to finish, but it was worth the wait.
"Alright children! You may now battle with your partners." Sir Copper proclaimed.
There I saw Marley battling with a wall of fans surrounding him. When he was done fighting the other trainers. I shouted.
"Marley! I challenge you to a rematch!"
Marley walked slowly towards us glaring at our eyes.
"So the weakling comes to the master to seek for revenge?" Marley teased. Everybody laughed except for Glade and Zhery.
"Haven't you learn, you'll just lose to my Sceptile?" He added.
"Me and Riolu trained hard, and now we're here for a rematch!" I uttered.
"Yeah yeah... I accept your rematch, but if you lose, you'll have to accept that you're weak!"
"And if you lose Marley? You promise not to treat your Pokemon harshly!" I bargained.
"And just like before, I'll be the referee.", Sir Copper volunteered.
"Each will use one Pokemon each, the battle is over if either Pokemon of either trainer has been knocked down."
"Sceptile, Show your power!"
"Riolu, let's do this right this time!",
"3... 2... 1... Battle begin!"
"Sceptile use leaf blade"
"Riolu dodge does blades then use quick attack on Sceptile's face!"
*Riolu dodges leaf blade!*
*Sceptile was damaged by quick attack*
"Being fast, doesn't change a thing, Sceptile use leaf storm!"
"Riolu, dodge those leaves!"
*Riolu was unable to dodge leaf storm*
"Riolu's speed increased but Sceptile's speed is higher!" Zhery observed.
"We're not giving up yet! Riolu use quick attack!"
"Sceptile counter it with Pursuit!"
*Both Riolu and Sceptile took damage*
Something went into my mind...
I remembered my battle with Blaine!
Riolu seems to be tired but I know, he won't give up until Sceptile loses...
I could hear my heartbeat getting faster and faster... Getting louder and louder!!!
"Riolu use quick attack once more!"
"Then we'll counter that move again with Pursuit!"
"Not this time Marley! Riolu jump! then pounce on Sceptile!"
*Sceptile's Pursuit attack missed!*
*Sceptile was confused because of Riolu's quick attack!*
"Th... That was an impressive move!" Glade observed.
"With Sceptile being confused, I think Kalem has the upper hand!" Zhery observed.
"Riolu keep using Karate Chop on Sceptile!"
...
...
"Sceptile is unable to battle, the victors are Kalem and Riolu"
"Yes! Riolu we did it! We finally won!*
Riolu hugged me tightly.
"Grrr!!! You were just lucky Kalem! I'll battle you soon! Just you wait!"
"Me and Riolu will be waiting" I told Marley in confidence.
"Congrats Kalem!" Zhery said.
"That was some impressive battling back there!" Glade added.
"Thanks so much you guys!"
"Astounding performance indeed!" Sir Copper complimented me as well.
"Thanks sir, If it wasn't for Riolu's determination we could have lost!" I said.
"And... Not only that, you just proved to Marley that Level or evolution does not matter, what matters is your bond with your Pokemon. That's the key ingredient."
For the end of the class, Sir Copper called everyone and asked them to seat.
"If there is something we could learn from the battle of Kalem and Marley, it is... your bond! I want every one of you to remember that! Bonding is growing power within! Like I said, the closer you are with your Pokemon, the stronger they get. I would like to thank Marley and Kalem for battling with style!"
Everyone clapped their hands as the session ends. Sir Copper even clapped his hands, in the end, me and Riolu were happy that we have defeated our first rival.
