Chapter 7: 3.2
"Can you please read it for us?" Taehyung put down the book he was reading and eyed the group of little kids in front of him. Some of them eyed him awkwardly back, staring at his tiger's ears and tail. Jungkook hid behind him, playing with the hem of his own pink hoodie with his bunny ears twitching.
Taehyung grinned and took the book from the kid's hand, "sure," all the kids surrounded him and listened to his sweet voice, reading the story of Peter Rabbit.
Seokjin, in the other place, hoped the boys would get along with the kids in the daycare while he struggled with his day shift as a waiter and a barista in his friend's café. Yoongi eyed him suspiciously, "Hyung."
He tilted his head, gazing back at his fellow barista and his boss, "yeah?" he smiled.
Yoongi's brows knitted together, "want to go grab a beer later?" he tested. Seokjin shook his head.
"I need to leave a little earlier after this," Seokjin said, hands busy with the coffee maker.
"Solar noona asked you to help her earlier?"
"Nope," the older hybrid put down the mug on the table, "I just work there on Sunday nights now," Yoongi widened his eyes.
"What?" he asked again, Seokjin rolled his eyes. He hated explaining every little thing he changed for the kids.
"You decided to be a full-time underground fighter?" that one too, he didn't talk much about the fact he used to be one of the illegal fighters in the hell's ring.
Make it look pretty, but train it to kill. That was how Seokjin fought. He might have broad shoulders and a tall body but his figure wasn't that manly. His face had made people laugh at him, tease him, even ask him 'do you come to fight or bend over for us, beautiful?'
It was good when people underestimated him, made it easier for him to finish them. He wasn't strong, he used his brain. He found their weakness, planned how to take his enemy down, but honestly, most of his fight was impulsive. When he felt like he wants to punch the jerks, he did it. No one expected a man that looked like an angel to set the world on fire.
He often went home with injuries, broken ribs or purple turning to black bruises. Stay low, go fast; no luck, pure skill. They broke the wrong parts of him, they broke his wings but forgot Seokjin had claws. He learnt to fight alone, his strength came from lifting himself when he was knocked down.
He used to be a fighter fueled by toxic feeling. His rage and bloodlust were his priority, he acted reckless and immature. He embraced people that promised warmth to his cold skin, they who promised soft kisses to the lonely man he was.
But now? Oh man, he thought about Jungkook's meal, about Taehyung's outfit. You need to know, they stayed with him less than a week but both of them changed almost all of Seokjin. They woke up the 'real Seokjin' inside the hard shell of pain, cracked it open and pulled him back together without even trying to.
It just happened like a destiny, fated encounter. If you asked him now, Seokjin still didn't have the reason why he took the kids under his wings. No, he wasn't a good man, he was miserable and wrecked but yet, he wanted to make them happy. He didn't want the kids to have a bad childhood like him, he wanted to make them smile.
"No, I stopped," Yoongi put down his phone.
"For years I scolded you and begged you to stop, you never listen," Yoongi scowled, "what in the world happened to you in the past week?"
Seokjin grinned, cheeks turning into the color of cherry blossom and Yoongi held his breath for a moment. The old Kim Seokjin who used to scold him for staying too late with his lyric book, whining when he took the older hybrid's snack, that soft boy was in front of him. The old Seokjin, his best friend that happened to be older by three months.
Yoongi met him again that day.
