Chapter 144: Death Came Too Sudden

As Lily's frustration rose, tears ran from the corner of her eyes as if it was searching for escape routes from the current situation. The more she forced herself to focus on shoving the weapon away from her chest, the more aware she became of how weak she was in physical strength.

Despite the tears, she refused to mutter a plead for mercy. Contrary to what he anticipated from a wealthy young woman who had inherited her grandfather's company, she stayed composed and didn't scream like all his previous victims.

A broad grin spread across his face, intrigued by her reaction.

Adrenaline surged through him.

His heart raced with excitement and thrill. "Hah, interesting. Not going to scream?"

Lily bit her lower lip, opting not to reply.

"Well. Well. Well. How can that be any fun without any fun? I am a very logical and polite gentleman. I believe in equality and so, I decided to give you your chance to scream before I kill you."He ran his tongue over his teeth, his eyes gleaming with menace.

The man repositioned his body, pressing his knee on Lily's stomach before retracting his knife. Though it was faint, he could see a second of relief in her body expression. But how could he allow her a second of relief without her pleading? He leaned his weight on his knee, making Lily yelp. Her hands quickly reaching for his knee.

"Now...How should I-" Before he could finish his sentence, a man's voice came through the right earpiece.

"Are you on crack? What the f*ck are you doing?! Your task to simply kill that chick and run. We need to go before someone discovers you! Are you f*cking crazy? Stab her deep in the chest and give her a few punches. If one stab is not enough, then do it thrice! Then take a picture of her miserable death and send it over to Jiang Meng Meng to get the money!" As the man quickly lectured the attacker, his speed talking gave him away.

The attacker turned to the side where he looked at the driver in the van. "Everything is under control. This chick will be dead before anyone comes. Relax. I won't drag you down."

"No! End her life right there right now! You hear me?!" The driver instructed the attacker adamantly.

"Ughhhh! You are so f*cking annoying! You always love ruining my fun, don't you?!" He irritably raked his fingers through his hair.

As he talked to his partner, Ginny quietly whispered to Lily, "P-pocket... spray..."

Lily's eyes widened in realization. She wished she could facepalm in frustration, but there was no time for that.

Taking advantage of the attacker's distraction, she reached into her pocket where Ginny had stashed the pepper spray. "Close your eyes," Lily whispered to Ginny. Once Ginny's eyes were closed, Lily held the spray in her hand, her thumb poised on the trigger.

As soon as he redirected his focus to Lily, she shut her eyes tightly and sprayed the pepper spray towards his face.

The parking lot was filled with distress as the man screamed and his face, now flushed and burning from the pepper spray, grew red. He frantically rubbed his face, searching for water or a tissue, but all he found in his pocket was a gum wrapper.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! You f*cking b*tch! I was letting you off just a tad and this is how you treat me?!!!! Oh my moth- This stings so much. Help!!!! I need help!!! Yo dude, just run them over and leave!!! My eyes! I'm blind! I'm blind now!!! Dude, don't just watch me die in pain! Do something about it!!!!!" The attacker He pressed his palm against his temples, rubbing around his eyes.

Despite his attempts to wipe his face and scrub his eyes, the burning sensation only intensified.

No one came to his aid, no matter how many curse words and pleas he voiced. His partner only replied, "you did this to yourself. Like you said, you won't drag me down. I won't expose myself just because you're dumb enough to give your target the opportunity to attack you while you're in the upper hand."

"You- You! Arghhh My eyes!!!!"He groaned and turned away from Lily.

"You what? Sounds like you have a problem. Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for dealing with someone as foolish as you." The sound of an engine starting drew the attacker's attention. He sprinted toward the van, only to discover that his partner had already left him behind.

Lily felt a surge of relief. She quickly shook Ginny, trying to wake her. "Ginny, come on. You can open your eyes now. We need to leave while he can't see us. Ginny? Ginny!" She realized Ginny had lost consciousness.

Lily kept glancing back at the enraged attacker, who was frantically using every curse word he knew to express his frustration and anger.

"Just you f*cking watch! I will complete and kill her right here and now! I will get the money and make sure to tell boss to not give you a single penny!" The attacker spat on the ground and turned around. As he did, he stumbled and fell onto a wooden stick. He clenched his teeth as his face struck the ground.

His nose went numb as a warm liquid dripped onto his lip. Without needing to look, he could tell his nose was bleeding."This f*cking-"

A new plan formed as he secured his new weapon. He got up from the ground and attempted to force his irritated eyes open. At first, tears obscured his vision, but he gradually adjusted to the pain.

Meanwhile, Ginny had just regained consciousness, providing Lily with a significant sense of relief. Lily pressed on Ginny's bleeding wound to control the blood loss. She whispered, "We need to leave now. I called for emergency help earlier. Lin Que and Alan should be almost here. We just need to hold on until they arrive. He will quickly find us if we stay at the same spot."

Ginny gazed at Lily with a calm, steady expression. After assessing the attacker's position, Lily attempted to help Ginny move. In a weak, raspy voice, Ginny said, "Go. Go alone."

Lily insisted, "No, I won't leave you behind. I refuse to do that."

Ginny took a moment to compose herself. Her eyes filled with tears as she heartbreakingly repeated, "Go without me. Save yourself. Don't look back."
