Chapter 89: My Girlfriend
Lawrence, Toby and Ginny arrived at the birthday party earlier than expected. Upon entering the ballroom, Lawrence already spotted several friends and walked towards them. Ginny and Toby followed him quietly as he spoke about business.
Lin An and Lin Yao Yao made their entrance soon after most guests have arrived. Lucas was waiting by the entrance for Lin Que and Lily to get here, so they could go in together. When he saw the couple walking with gifts in their hands, Lucas patted his chest in relief.
"You two are finally here! Let's go. Let's go!" Lucas almost grabbed Lin Que's arm to drag him into the party. Even though there were more guests behind them, Lucas wanted to avoid the crowd as he hated attention.
Lily chuckled, "He's quite energetic for the party."
Lin Que didn't know whether he should cry or laugh at his brother's reaction. Everyone stared in their direction because Lucas was waving at them without caring for the rest of the world around them. "You'll see why he is acting this way once we get in there."
At the end, Lucas couldn't wait for the slow-poke couple behind him, so he went ahead to give his present to his dad first. From the door, it wasn't difficult for Lucas to see where his dad was standing.
"Dad! Happy birthday!" Lucas wrapped an arm around his father as he held out the gift he had prepared for him. He didn't read the atmosphere when he approached his dad in the friendliest way possible. Lin An had just begun chatting with Lawrence and was not too happy with his son's interference. In the meantime, Lin Yao Yao was having her reunion with Toby when she heard her son's voice and turned away.
Scratching the back of his neck, Lucas felt like he had done something forbidden. "Ahem, sorry for my late introduction and random entrance. I am Lucas Lin, the second child of Lin family."
Lawrence laughed heartily at his liveliness, "Old Lin, you have a very energetic son. Youngsters are like this. My daughters are the same when they are at home. No need to act polite at your own family party."
Lucas thanked him for his compliment and secretly blessed him for helping him escape from his dad's wrath. Lin An sighed helplessly, "Where's Lin Que? Didn't you say you were waiting for him outside?"
"Huh? Yeah. He's walking too slow with his girlfriend. Your most anticipated guest for the night." He winked at his father meaningfully. Trying to hide the smile on his face, Lin An turned towards Lawrence and continued their conversation from earlier.
Hearing that Lin An's eldest son will arrive soon, Lawrence looked forward to meeting him in person. He had heard many positive rumors about his looks and capabilities. If possible, he wanted to exchange some words with him tonight.
"The last time we spoke over the phone; your son was still single. So was my daughter. Who would have known they would both be dating someone shortly after we made that call?" Lawrence wasn't surprised to hear about such a capable businessman bringing his girlfriend to a family party like this.
Lin An nodded, "I know right? I honestly wanted to hook my son up with your daughter after setting them up for a date or something. I've heard quite some things about your daughter. Very impressive young lady."
"Hahaha, not as impressive as your son. He is a very intelligent thinker and has unlimited potential with his current achievements. When I was at his age, I was still starting my own business from scratch." Lawrence praised about Lin Que's accomplishments.
"Dad." Lin Que called out to Lin An, making him shift his attention towards the other direction.
"Dad?" Lily called out when she saw Lawrence standing next to Lin An.
"Lily? Why are you here?" Lawrence saw his daughter all dolled up. When she left earlier, he was in his study room having an important meeting. Therefore, he didn't see her dressed up in a gown.
Toby, Ginny and Lin Yao Yao also joined the group as they saw their own children had arrived. Lin Yao Yao had longed to meet Lily since the time when Lucas had shouted into the phone about Lin Que hiding a girl from them. When she saw Lily's arm looped around Lin Que's, she quickly walked over.
Before anyone could say anything, Lin Yao Yao interrupted. "Lin Que, you're here!"
Her expression was extremely obvious as if she was saying, "Introduce her to us!!!"
Lin Que smiled as he introduced Lily officially to her parents.
"Dad, mom, this is Lily, my girlfriend." Lily quickly greeted them with a gentle smile. She lifted the gifts in her hands and handed it to the Lin couple.
"Hello, Auntie. Hello, Uncle. Here are some gifts for our first meeting. I hope you'll like them. Uncle, I wish you a happy birthday with many many years to come." Lin An took the bag from her hands and noticed the tea brand immediately. Smiling, he thanked her for the presents and blessing words.
Lawrence coughed as he felt like he was the only clueless one here. He looked at his wife who wasn't shocked at all with the current situation. After hearing his light cough, Lily smiled. "Oh! My parents are also here today."
Pulling Lin Que a few steps forward, Lily introduced him to her father. "Dad, this is Lin Que, my boyfriend. What a coincidence to see you here..." Her voice trailed off as she noticed a common point.
A few seconds later, she asked, "Dad...Your friend is Uncle Lin?"
"Mhmm." Lawrence nodded with an interesting smile on his face. Lin An and Lin Yao Yao gasped when they saw Lawrence responding to her. The couple exchanged glances and gulped, 'She's the one we wanted to set Lin Que up with!'
"So, the friend's son you talked about wanting me to meet...."
Lawrence's smile showing his teeth, "Uh huh. Right next to you."
Toby was the only one who knew everything from the beginning till the end. She happily sipped her champagne as she watched everyone and their surprised reaction in amusement.
Ginny whispered, "Damn, talk about fate, huh?"
Lucas overheard her whisper and joined them. "Right? Since both parents are here already, they should just get married. Give this party some sparks!" Their whispers weren't considered whispers as their volumes were still loud enough for others to hear their words clearly.
At this moment, Lawrence, Lin An and Lin Yao Yao were the happiest as they realized their child had found each other themselves! If this isn't called fate, they don't know what is!
