After minutes of quietness, Alan said, "Well? What do you think? If you want to take back your words, you could still do it." He smiled with a small hint of sadness when he gave her this option.
As much as he wished to make her his girlfriend, he wouldn't want to force her to make a decision on the spot. At the end of the day, he wouldn't stop pursuing her anyways. He had planned many ways to ask her out to win her over.
Although he didn't want to use the term Lin Que had used about boiling soup, he couldn't deny agreeing to it. Right now, he wanted to use his time and effort to form a good relationship with her. Before he could say anything else about giving her time to reconsider her thoughts, she nodded.
"Y...You agreed?"
"Alan, let's try dating. I'll try my best to be a good girlfriend. Since this is my first time dating, there are many things I need to get used to." She didn't really know what else to say. If she continued talking, it might sound like she was talking to a professor with caring words.
"W..Wait. Wait.. You agreed?" He asked again to confirm and watched her nod with a smile on her face. Suddenly, his knees gave away, and he squatted down. Combing his hair back with his free hand while the other still held onto hers, he hid his childish smile.
Brushing her hair backwards, she bent her knees to his level. "What's wrong? Are you feeling sick?" Hearing her sweet, caring voice so close to him, he lifted his head with the sunshine smile on his face.
Following his silly smile, she also smiled dazzlingly. "What?"
"Nothing, I'm just very happy." He tried blocking his smile with his free hand, but she stopped him. Tilting his head towards different directions was also useless as she followed along his motion.
"You're not allowed to hide from me." Her playful tone turned into giggles as she caught his embarrassed expression over and over again. Just like that, the two of them looked at each other for a while with smiles stretching their faces until their skin felt tight. Still, the smiles couldn't be hidden.
While a new couple had formed, Lily had long left the hospital after having lunch with Lin Que. She thought she was free for the day, but had received an email about work. There was a major accident this afternoon, and Lin Que was urgently called to the operations room. She didn't want to linger around and delay his work, so she left to deal with her management company.
Although she was a part timer, most of the staff knew her well. Lily was famous for her natural posing and acting skills. Many companies had wanted to scout her, but she always rejected every proposal. Upon entering the company, Sofia was ready to greet her at the entrance.
"Sofia, I'm here." Lily walked in casually while folding away her sunglasses.
"Lily, it's great to see you. Let's go. The director is waiting for you." Sofia dragged her to the elevator where they made their way to the top floor of the building.
"What's the fuss about?" Lily frowned at the sight of her manager's sweat layered forehead. She had never seen her behave this way before.
"The director wants to talk to you about the contract. I've already informed him about your decision, but he wants to speak to you personally." Sofia supervises Lily, but she does not have the final say in many things. Even though she had done her best to soothe the director, she knew her words were nothing compared to Lily's one sentence.
Knocking on the director's door, Lily received the permission to enter the room. Sofia was locked out of the office and could only pray for her luck. Once Lily entered, she noticed a familiar face in the room next to the director.
"Director Chu, I heard you wanted to speak with me." Lily directly spoke to the director with a fearless attitude. 'If I don't feel like signing any shitty contracts, then I won't sign it. What else can you do to me?'
"Lily, what a pleasure to see you today. I thought you would avoid me." Director Chu sarcastically said as he looked at the way she stood in front of him with her arms crossed.
"Of course I wouldn't avoid you. Why would Director Chu think that?"
The model sitting next to the director smiled as she mocked Lily for her stubborn personality. "Senior Jiang, you should take a seat and relax. Director Chu only means for your own good. Sit and listen to the conditions he has to offer you for your contract."
Although she was smiling, the daggers she was throwing towards Lily were too obvious to be missed. Lily crossed her leg and spoke. "Junior Laura, if you have time to listen to others' offers and contract information, you should focus on becoming better at poses. I have heard quite a few complaints from each photographer you've worked with."
Laura cursed at Lily in her mind, but calmed these thoughts as she had to maintain a good reputation in front of the director. "Hoho, Senior Jiang sure knows how to joke around. I'm here because Director Chu has the greatest resources for me. There are movies, magazine covers and other opportunities to choose from."
"Oh? Then may I ask what Director Chu wants to speak to me about?" Lily could tell what tricks he was trying to play. He wanted to make her feel threatened by Laura and become a puppet of his.
"About the full-time contract, I want you to reconsider your decision. I've already increased your wage by forty percent and that should be more than enough for an amateur like you. I am very earnest in promoting you to becoming a full timer at this company."
Director Chu knew Lily was more intelligent than the other models under him. He wanted to use her talent and beauty to gain more awards for the yearly nominations.
"Thank you for your generous offer, but the price is not the problem. I am solely uninterested in becoming a full timer. As attractive as your conditions may sound now and perhaps even more in the future, I will not waver. I will have to reject your offer." She stood up to leave, but stopped when she heard his warning.
"If you don't sign the new contract with me, then you will be blacklisted. You won't be able to renew the contract after the current one ends in a year. I'll keep all the resources for other people." His determination to take her down was strong.
"Then do as you say. This will only reveal how poor ethics you and your company have when it comes to pressuring your employees to bend your way. If you want to play it out this way, then do it. I'm afraid you would regret it later." She didn't plan on using her identity to suppress his power, but she hated the feeling of being threatened.
"Very well. You'll receive no resources starting from today. I'll see how long you last from here." Director Chu scoffed as he had failed to realize his mistakes were fatal to his business. Not only did he not know about Lily's strong family background, he also didn't know about her supportive boyfriend.
Leaving with a grin on her face, Lily waved her hand. "We'll see who begs whom."
