Chapter 9: Boss Event
Being a shut in really is bad for your health, I feel like my lungs are on fire. I had planned to carefully follow in the zombie's wake, but I started to panic as I got closer to the center of the village. I saw bandits all over the place fighting or violating villagers. I realized how exposed and weak I really was, so I started to sprint toward the zombie. I could "feel" I was going in the right direction.
Finally, I saw it ahead. It probably didn't really take me that long to get here, but the fear I felt made it feel like a lifetime. It was attacking a bandit, the sight was... gruesome. I thought I'd be a bit more prepared after all I'd seen so far, but my stomach churned seeing it in action.
It was trying to bite straight through the back of the man's neck, I could clearly see bone protruding. Right as I got within a few feet of it, it grabbed onto his shoulders as it pulled its head back with the man's spine clasped in its mouth.
The man let out one last blood curdling scream before crumpling to the ground. I had to try hard to suppress the urge to vomit as I spoke.
"Stop! Come to me, follow me, protect me."
Huh, that is the second time I was able to speak without an issue, though it was only with a corpse...still any improvement is good.
The zombie stopped its attack and was immediately at my side. I could smell the stench of blood and bile on it. I could taste a sour flavor in my mouth, guessed I vurped?
I looked around, the villagers seem to be slowly gaining an advantage. Based on the mutilated bodies I passed on the way here, the zombie had probably done enough to let them overwhelm them with numbers.
I thought I could leave it to them, but then I saw a very large bandit further ahead peeking through some smoke. He was easily fighting off several of the villagers, and the bandits were starting to fallback to him. As always, it seems you need to kill the boss to clear the event...
