Chapter 12: Chapter 12

By the time Akela and Blue made it to Rider, Kiba was already there. "It's about time you got up here. Since you've been taking your sweet effortless time." Kiba says to them. Akela lowered his ears but looked at his brother sternly. Rider cleared his throat. "Earth told me how you guys did in hunting and tracking. She told me you guys did wonderfully, but now it's time to test your combat skills.

I'm going to have you three fight each other individually, and I'll tell you some tips as you fight. However, you will only be fighting to win, not to hurt each other. Only fight for the victory, understand?" Akela and Blue barked, and after a long moment, Kiba gave a nod. Rider nodded. "Good, now...who shall I have to go first?" He looked from Kiba, Akela, and finally Blue. He looked at them, his eyes blank, expressionless.

"I'll have the brothers go first. Then, the loser has to fight Blue. And I'll see how you guys fit in your father's pack. Your father is on his way over here, and by the time he gets here, your training will be done. Boys? Are you ready?" Akela looked at his brother, who looked back at him. His eyes were mixed with emotion: anger, pain, jealousy, but...Akela couldn't quite tell, but he was hoping he saw a flash of thoughtfulness in his brother's eyes. Then Kiba looked back at Rider and growled, "Let's get this over with." Rider sighed but didn't object.

He looked at Akela, who gave him a nod and turned to face his brother. He bared his teeth in a warning, but he knew that they were only fighting for the victory, not to hurt each other. Kiba's eyes hardened, and he puffed his fur so he looked twice his size. Despite this, Akela was a bit bigger than his brother, but he wasn't going to use his size as an advantage. Rider looked at both of them for a long, cool moment. "On my word...fight!" They both sprang at the same time.

Kiba got on him first, grabbing his neck and shaking hard before releasing his brother. Akela snarled and pounced, pinning Kiba down, grabbing his own neck between his jaws and shook him violently. Kiba howled in rage as he pushed Akela back with his hind legs, got to his paws and grabbed his brothers back leg and squeezed. Akela yelped as he tried to spin and grab his brother. "Release!" he yells. "Release!" "Release."

Rider says. Kiba let go, backing away, his lips stained with his brother's blood. "Do you give up Akela?" he asks coolly. Akela turned and faced him, his own jaws open and dripping from drool. It wasn't fair for his brother to grab onto his leg like that, but if he was going to win this fight, he needed to encourage him.

This time, when Kiba pounced and lashed onto his shoulder, he wiped his head around and grabbed his left ear between his teeth. Kiba howled in pain as Akela pinned him down again, with all his body weight pushing him into the snow. "Yield!" he growls through a mouthful of ear.

Kiba growled and struggled as Akela let go of his ear, but only to grab his neck one last time. He shook him. "YIELD!" Very suddenly, Kiba stopped and lay still, his tail thumping in the snow. "I yield." Akela let go and backed away, so his brother could get up. Both were breathing heavily from the fight, but were unharmed more than less. "Impressive Akela. That was fine fighting moves you had." Rider says with acknowledgement.

He looked at Kiba. "As for you Kiba...you have one more chance to improve your fighting skills. You will now fight Blue, and then I'll see how you do." Akela looked at Blue, who was standing a few feet away. She looked back at him, her light-blue eyes spoke many things that he couldn't read.

To his surprise, she stepped forward, and lowered her head submissively. "Rider, I don't want to fight Kiba…" Rider looked confused. "Why not?" She lifted her head and looked at him. "It wouldn't be fair for Kiba. I'm half-dire, which means that I have very strong and powerful genes. Since Kiba is just a regular wolf, it wouldn't be a fair fight. Please...don't let me fight him."

Rider sat there in a moment of silence. Then he sighed, but added a smile as he added. "Very well, at least you know that it wouldn't be fair. You know your strengths, and you don't want to hurt him. You don't have to fight." Kiba growled. "Or maybe she's just being a coward in front of my precious brother…"

All three of them turned to him. Blue looked shocked at what she just heard. "It not being a coward Kiba...it's called not letting you get hurt." Kiba scoffed. "Please...spare me the details. We all know that you're just not fighting me to impress my brother. Your either very stupid, or just ill mannered. I'm going to go with really stupid."

Akela snarled. "Kiba shut up! You're being very rude and cold to just the simplest things that are said. Maybe your the stupid one!" Kiba snarled back. "Don't call me stupid! My intelligence triumphs yours so vastly it makes you look like a dung beetle!" "Am I about to interrupt something?" said a familiar voice.

The wolves turned to see Nightlight approaching. Rider bowed respectfully as his leader came towards them. Nightlight looked at Rider. "Leave us Rider. You've done well in teaching them." Rider nodded and padded away. Once he was out of sight, Nightlight spoke to his sons.

"Listen to me carefully boys. Akela, getting angry doesn't help. And if you or Kiba are going to be an alpha you should learn how to control certain things. And you...Kiba you've become very disrespectful towards your brother and the rest of us." Kiba snarled. "Wow, big surprise there! Just because I'm not your favorite doesn't mean you have to treat me like dirt!" Nightlight looked at him with stern eyes.

"I'm not picking favorites here Kiba...you're both my sons and I love you both very much. You should understand that." Kiba wasn't so easy to forgive. "Don't give me that rubbish! Ever since Blue arrived, Akela and I haven't been together. Every time I want to hang out with him, he's always rushing off with Blue! They never invite me to join them or nothing! If Blue wasn't here, things would be normal again! And we'd be inseparable like we were!!" Kiba said this with burning rage.

He wasn't doing this for show. He meant it. Blue sighed and walked away, her ears and tail dipped low with sadness. Akela called after her, but she kept walking away. She broke into a run and was out of sight within seconds. Akela turned to his brother. "Now look what you did! You've upset her yet again! When will you ever say anything nice about her for once?!" Akela bolted after Blue, not letting his brother say another word to him. Kiba scowled and said coldly.

"It doesn't matter. I'm leaving this crummy pack once and for all. I'll be better off on my own, without anyone to worry about. I wish you all would listen to me for once." He turned and ran the other direction. Nightlight called after him, but Kiba continued to run. Nightlight sighed and sat down, pawing the snow until the grass underneath it appeared. He then looked up at the sky and said, "Oh Great Spirits...what am I supposed to do now? Kiba's gone, and the bond that my sons once shared has been broken. Please look after both of them for me ..."
