Chapter 5: Chapter 5

Nightlight stood to all fours and stretched before barking an alarm to the others. Atlas looked at him. "Nightlight? What's wrong?" he asks. Nightlight growled. "Bandit's here." Atlas and the other's looked out. Bandit was walking towards them, and he didn't look very happy. Nightlight stood his ground as Bandit stopped a few paw steps away from him. "So…" he growled. "You think it's okay to treat your alpha so disrespectfully Nightlight? Well like it or not, I am your alpha and there's nothing you can do about it." Nightlight bared his teeth. "Yes there is Bandit. Matter of fact I'd be twice the alpha than you'd ever be. You let my little brother come with us to get rid of him. He died because of you."

Bandit just smiled a cruel smile. "I was hoping that would happen, besides he deserved to die anyways. He was weak and useless." Atlas snarled in rage. "He wasn't you cruel bastard! You're a cold-selfish jerk Bandit. You always have! Everyone here agrees that Nightlight should be our alpha and not you. You shouldn't be alpha to anybody!" Bandit turned and snarled at him. Nightlight stepped in front of him, his teeth bared at him. "Don't even think about it…" Bandit's eyes were cold. "If that's how it's going to be then Nightlight, then fight me. We'll then see who is the rightful alpha. If you win, I'll leave with Ava. But if I win...you're done for"

Nightlight tensed. He looked at the others, who looked at him with worried yet stern expressions. He turned back to Bandit and growled, "Fine. If you want to fight, let's fight then." Bandit chuckled evilly. "This is going to be fun…" Snarling, Bandit lunged for Nightlight, toppling him over and began biting at his ears. He yelped and pushed Bandit off with his hind legs. Bandit rolled over, but got back on his feet. Drool spilled from his jaws, but Nightlight hardly moved. Enraged, Bandit pounced again and grabbed Nightlight by his neck, shook him until blood came from his mouth and threw him into a tree. Nightlight got up, shaking himself as his black fur grew darker from his open wounds.

Nightlight snarled in rage as he grabbed Bandit's muzzle in his jaws and scraped his teeth against it. Bandit broke free and grabbed Nightlight's left ear between his teeth and tore a chunk from it. Nightlight yelped as Bandit grabbed him by his neck again and shook him as if he was killing a rabbit. Nightlight went limp between his jaws, and he dropped him. Bandit put a paw on his neck, and whispered in his ear. "This is what you deserve for talking rude about me…No one will ever hear of you again." He raised his head baring his teeth about to finish him off. "NOOOO!"

Atlas pounced and collided head on with Bandit. Standing protectively over his injured brother, he growls, "I'm not letting you kill my brother Bandit...You've already killed one, and I'm not letting you kill another." Bandit snarled. "This isn't your fight Atlas, it's mine and his...now step off of him before I make you…" Atlas didn't even flinch, so when Bandit raised a paw, Moon stepped forward. "You want Nightlight...You'll have to go through me…" she growls. "And us!" the pack all said at once. The stepped forward growling and snarling with all their teeth bared at him.

Bandit looked at them all with his cold yellow eyes for a long moment. Then he scoffed and said, "Fine...if you want to protect him so much, then I hear by banish all of you from the pack forever. Don't ever come near me, or my pack again. If I ever see any of your faces again, I won't be so merciful…" He turned and padded away. Looking at Sam he said, "Let's go…" Sam looked at Bandit as he passed, then back at the others. They all looked at the little fox, and he called after Bandit, "I'm staying with them whether you like it or not." Bandit just replied. "So be it."

Sam padded up to the others and he yipped and bowed respectfully. Moon lowered her head. "You made the right choice Sam. Well done…" Sam just smiled. Atlas stepped away from Nightlight, who still lay in a heap. Pandora rushed to her mates side, and nudged him. "Nightlight?" When he didn't respond, she began to panic. But then she saw his chest rising and falling. She let out a sigh of relief. "He's not dead...thank the Spirit-Wolves for that...but he's badly wounded. We need to treat his wounds and be on our way to the Hidden Forest. I'm pretty sure the collar will only accept Nightlight."

The others nodded in agreement as Atlas lifted Nightlight on to his back and carried him to the trees. He set his brother down gently under a shady oak, and Pandora laid down next to him. She looked at the others and said, "Maybe we wouldn't be so bad as a pack. After all, you guys snarled at Bandit and didn't flinch. Maybe we can be a pack together." Everyone looked at each other in a moment of silence.

Then, Mulch said "It wouldn't be bad. We get along just fine with each other, and treat Nightlight with respect even more. I'd say count me in on that." Dagger nodded an agreement. "I'd like that as well. Besides, we're big enough to be considered a pack anyways. And in this bit of land that we're in, there's plentiful game and water. We'd be happy here, I'm sure of that." Ashton stepped in. "True, but what about the Hidden Forest? And the collar?" Pandora simply replied, "Who cares? As long as Bandit can't get it, we'll be fine by ourselves." Atlas barked an agreement, and Moon walked up to him and nuzzled his neck.

"I agree with you Pandora. Besides, Bandit wouldn't allow any of us to have a mate within the pack. Well, besides you and Nightlight. I haven't said this yet but…" she paused and looked up at Atlas. "Atlas, every moment I've spent with you, is the happiest moment of my life. Atlas, I want to spend everyday on this earth with you. Please...be my mate. I know I'm saying this now but Atlas...we can be together." Atlas looked at her with soft eyes. He smiled and said, "I would be happy to...I love you Moon." He bent down and licked her ear affectionately. She smiled.

Moments later, Nightlight groaned. Pandora looked at him. "Nightlight…?" Slowly, he opened his bright yellow eyes. He turned his head and looked at Pandora and the others. "What happened? Did I win?" he asks. Pandora giggled. "Not exactly, Bandit was going to kill you, but Atlas stepped in and wouldn't allow it. So he banished us all from his pack. I'm pretty sure we'll be better off anyways." Nightlight looked up at his brother, who nodded his agreement. "Come here Atlas." Nightlight says. Atlas stepped forward and bent his head down to his brother. Nightlight licked his muzzle. "Thank you…" he says. Atlas smiled. "Of course Nightlight...you're my brother. And I'll protect you from anything...or anyone."
