Chapter 29: Secrets
Yui also wanted to sit at the edge, but she felt dizzy when she looked down. She felt fear in her heart. Red saw her and held out his hand.
"Don't worry, you won't fall." Red calmly said.
Yui gripped his hand tightly and then carefully walked to the edge and sat down beside Red. Mayumi also came and sat down. She wasn't afraid of heights.
The three sat at the edge of the suspended stone, as the breeze blowed past them and the sun quietly set.
"Alright, let's set up the tents and the camp. I'll prepare the dinner for the four of us." Red said.
"What are you preparing?" Mayumi asked while salivating at the thought of Red's cooking.
"Hotpot." Red laughed as he set up the tents in rapid succession, laying down the carpets, turning on the portable stove and beginning to cook.
The two girls went to gater dried up sticks for a bonfire. The assistant sat down beside Red, looking at him cooking food.
"How did you find this place?" She asked seriously. She was a cultivator, and could tell this was an exquisite location for practice. How could Red have brought them here just by coincidence?
"Someone told me about it." Red said.
"Do you know the significance of this place?" The assistant obliquely asked.
Red looked at the assistant. "This place is a natural feng shui formation amd this stone is the energy vortex." Red said as he pointed at a spot on the stone, where there was a small hole, the size of a pin.
"You are a cultivator?" The assistant asked.
Red didn't reply to her question. "Does Yui's family know that her assistant is actually a cultivator? Do they even know about cultivators?" He asked.
The assistant's eyes suddenly displayed murderous intent, to which Red simply laughed. "How interesting! So they really do not know? Then are you planted by some organization or are you hiding from some organization pretending to be a mortal?"
The assistant felt like killing Red. "I am not from some organization!" She grit her teeth.
"That's good. Then do a good job of protecting Yui in the future. She is in serious danger. Also learn to control your overflowing killing intent. If a simple question can make you fly into a rage, I'm truly shocked how you could remain in hiding till now." Red calmly replied with cold eyes.
"What danger is she in?" The assistant suddenly asked, her face showing worry.
Red nodded. "Looks like you have protective feelings towards her. You need to be alert. Her danger actually comes from an unexpected source, don't let your guard down. I can't go into further details."
"Then you came to eliminate those dangers?" The assistant asked with a frown.
"I'm just a mortal, haha. I'm not in a position to be able to eliminate the dangers. However, Yui is more than a friend to me, I will do my best to save her. I can detect the dangers around her, but I am not strong enough to eliminate it. Worse comes to worse, I'll take the role of a villain amd abduct her away." Red calmly spoke.
"You! You better not sully her! I can see that she favors you, but if you harm her..." The assistant snorted.
"I am not that kind of person. Abducting her will just make her hate me. Do you think I want that? That is why I am asking you to keep your eyes and ears open. Yui's body has been tampered with. The very day I came to the school, I noticed the tampering in her body." Red said with utmost seriousness.
Not far away, Yui and Mayumi were actually listening to the conversation between Red and the assistant. They looked at each other in shock.
Meanwhile, the assistant continued to interrogate Red. "If you are a mortal, how do you know so much about cultivators? How did you find out that Yui's body has been tampered when I can simply not see it."
Red suddenly laughed. "If you work out in the gym will your eyesight improve? Cultivation does not have much to do with me finding out her body has been tampered with for malicious reasons. I might be a mortal. I might be only 17, but my worldly experiences clearly vastly outstrip cultivators like you who isolate themselves in energy rich areas and improve their bodies."
"You think there is a conspiracy against Yui?" The assistant asked. She was frowning a lot. There was a worry in her heart.
"I'm surprised. You seem to have genuine care for her. Yes, there is a conspiracy, I am sure of it. I suspect her ex fiancé, that idiot Goutou is also involved. But his insecurities seemed to have turned him crazy since I arrived. I seem to have unintentionally put a wrench into that plan." Red explained.
"Alright, I've explained enough. You just need to protect Yui, I will find a way to remove the tampering from her body." Red said.
Meanwhile, Yui had shivers all over her body. She didn't know what to believe. Mayumi was also stunned. Cultivators? They were real?
At that moment, the two made noises as they came out carrying bundles of sticks. They acted like they did not hear anything.
"You two are back! That took a long time. The hotpot is already done!" Red smiled and said.
Yui and Mayumi nodded. "Alright, let's eat."
The food was as delicious as usual, only this time, they had an esplanade of stars as a backdrop in the night sky to accompany them.
The four cleaned up their plates of food, but some extra remained, which Red put in a casserole.
As the bonfire was lit up, everyone sat quietly amd enjoyed the scenery. Meanwhile, Yui and Mayumi were actually chatting with each other via message.
Red looked at Yui and Mayumi. "What's wrong with you two? You seem depressed, is camping underwhelming? I guess its not for everyone." He said bitterly.
