Chapter 10: Delinquents
At this moment, eight bulky youths with baseball bats suddenly entered the class. "I heard a gaijin scum is in this school? There! Hey pale face, we came to beat you up!"
Immediately the class was stunned and riled up. "How dare you? You don't even seem to be from this school! How did you enter?" The five brothers immediately blocked their way.
"Who the f*** are you idiots? Get lost! We came to deal with that boy. You, come out!" The delinquent yelled.
Yui's face turned cold and she looked at Goutou instinctively. She immediately saw Goutou smiling cruelly and she felt a deep disgust in her heart.
At that moment, Red sighed and got up. He simply looked at Goutou, and shook his head. Then he walked out of the class with the delinquents.
His look towards Goutou wasn't missed by the others and they realized what was going on.
"Goutou! Shameless!"
"I never thought that 'nobility' could behave in such a 'noble' manner." Someone dripped with sarcasm.
Everyone looked at Goutou with disgust. Goutou snorted. "How can you slander me that way? Did anyone see my with those people?"
Yui felt her chest tighten. She took her phone and made some calls. Meanwhile, Red walked out with the eight delinquents.
"How much were you paid?" Red asked.
"Ten thousand yen." The delinquent leader shamelessly boasted.
"You got fooled. Do you understand what my status is? I am here on a government program. If I were injured, there would be a huge criminal investigation and media circus, because it would ruin Japan's prestige. You are willing to bear the consequences for 10,000 yen? Did you lose your head?" Red asked with a laughing look.
Suddenly the delinquents began perspiring. They began thinking this through and immediately realized the horrific consequences such an incident would have. It would be impossible to hush it up and they had blatantly strolled in public view nonetheless!
"I'll pay you another 10,000. Just tell me who sent you." Red said. "And I won't bring up your names to anyone."
"It was Goutou and Sai." The delinquent said. Red nodded and handed the money to the delinquents who left the scene. Red then calmly returned to the class.
The students saw Red return, but he did not sit. Instead he waited for the home room teacher to arrive, waiting at the door.
When the home room teacher arrived, she saw Red waiting at the door.
"What happened Red?" She asked.
Red replied. "I have something to show you all." Then he played the recording of the delinquents he had just asked. Immediately everyone was stunned. The homeroom teacher was confused and asked the other students what happened. When she heard it she flew into a rage.
Goutou immediately paled when he heard the recording.
"Bastard! You must have faked it!" Goutou screamed.
Red ignored him and went to his seat. The home room teacher frowned. This involved a big family scion, but he was targetting a student who could hugely tarnish the school's reputation forever. She immediately informed the higher ups.
Yui turned and looked at Red apologetically. She felt guilty and horrible. Meanwhile Red was laughing inside. "I can't believe this idiot is so stupid! Its just the second day and he is already collapsing!" He thought to himself.
Soon the principal called for Goutou. He had already made phone calls to the Takama family. Even Goutou's family was shocked by this news.
The principal looked at Goutou with a hint of disgust in his eyes. He knew the importance of children of the nobility for the school's prestige, but he hated these kind of rogue students.
"Goutou, I have spoken to your parents about this matter. You have been suspended for a week and will be put in household detention by your parents. We are all very ashamed of your behavior." The principal said.
"I have been framed by that bastard!" Goutou tried to defend himself.
"Enough! I have learned of everything. Red's behavior has been nothing short of ideal! You on the other hand, you've disappointed this school and your family with your bullying." The principal said.
In class, the home room teacher announced that Goutou has been suspended and the school was looking into how those strangers entered the school.
Rin looked at Red. "Red, you handled it so calmly. You are very brave."
Red shrugged it off. "Its just from experience. Once when I was travelling, I was surrounded by over twenty people who wanted to beat me and take my belongings. I had to talk myself out of that one, it was much scarier than this!" He laughed. He just didn't reveal the fact that the ones who surrounded him were police.
"Your life is so exciting!" Rin said.
"I try to make the most of my time." Red replied with a smile. Then he thought about something. He looked at Rin. "There's a movie I want to watch, do you want to join me?"
"Huh? Ha? M..Me?" Rin asked while stuttering. Her face turned pink.
"Yeah, going alone would be boring. I'll buy your ticket if you want to come." Red said nonchalantly.
"S..Sure.." Rin replied. At this moment her heart was fluttering. But she calmed herself down when she realized that Red didn't mean it as some kind of date, but simply hanging out.
After classes, Red went to the Arts room where he began practicing drawing. He also taught the enthusiastic boy a few basics about shuffling stylistically.
The president of the arts society also looked at the shuffling with interest and spoke up. "I never would have imagined such an unconventional skill to be considered art. But in your hands, I can see a kind of artistic performance."
Red nodded. "The key to make shuffling look beautiful is to remember that it is a performance. In a way, it isn't too different from a dance.It isn't just your hands that are working, it is your whole body." As he said this he jerked his right hand and the deck of cards disappeared from his right hand and appeared on his left.
"I just flung the deck to my left hand, but none of you noticed it." Red smiled.
"Amazing!"
