Chapter 60 — Tournament, Opening Ceremony.
The night sky was covered eerily with darkness, only the countless tiny stars and clear white moon making it appear beautiful and also very tranquil.
However, the streets of the Heaven Dou City were different. It was bright and colorful, various intriguing lanterns scattered everywhere along with simple, yet pleasant cheap decorations.
It was filled with many fun activities and people happily enjoying this peaceful moment with a smile.
The Heaven Dou City was undoubtedly covered with a blanket of festive atmosphere.
Over the Great Spirit Arena of Heaven Dou City, it's central and largest stadium was attracting countless attentions and visitors.
It was definitely because of it's grand structure that was colossal in terms of size and it was also especially decorated expensively today, causing it to brim with an ethereal power and majestic atmosphere.
There were currently thousands of people entering the Great Spirit Arena. It received visitors from all around the empire and it was an amazing sight to witness.
However, there was something even more amazing than that. It was because the entirety of the visitors were spirit masters and not a single ordinary mortal could be spotted.
The ordinary mortals were only able to gaze at them enviously, seeing them being able to personally witness the tournament.
Today, at this moment, it was finally the beginning of the continental academy tournament.
It was gonna be held at the Great Spirit Arena, where the preselection event was gonna happen to determine the team that was gonna advance to the ranking event and then lastly the finals.
Although it was just the preselection, it still garnered a large amount of attention from everyone. The tournament was after all something rare, only being held every four years with the reward being spirit bones, something that was extremely valuable.
The audience sat over their seats and waited expectantly for the tournament to finally start.
Swoosh...
The bright light covering the entire desolate stadium was suddenly turned off, causing it to descend into complete darkness. However, a brilliant light soon concentrated over a large and majestic gate.
The entire audience went silent, them not daring to even release a slightest noise. They were all completely excited and eager for the teams to come out from the gate.
"YES!!!"
"FINALLY!"
A large amount of people, forming into many different groups, slowly came out from the gate. It made the entire audience's blood to surge excitedly, causing them to explode out with various cheers.
The many academy teams stepped forward solemnly, walking with powerful strides and wearing proud, arrogant smiles. Their captain led them, holding large flags that represented their academy insignia.
They were the most talented and charming people from across the entire empire, the people loved by fate.
"It's the five elemental academy!"
"They have arrived!!"
The audience's cheers suddenly grew especially loud when many of the prestigious academies walked out from the gate.
It was the five elemental academies.

After the five elemental academies, it was the Shrek Academy that soon walked out next from the gate. They clearly received far less attention and cheers compared to the others.
They were after all just wearing simple blue silver uniforms, and it was clearly not as fabulous and expensive compared to the other academy.
The next and final academy after them was the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy.
To be precise, it's second team and also the Emperor Team.
However, they still haven't walked out, looking patiently to the man standing in front of them, awaiting for his decision.
The man was handsome, brimming with strong strength and unparalleled charm. He was currently wearing a black uniform with golden dragon design, while holding a large flag.
Next to the man, six other people stood indifferently and they also wore the exact black uniform as the handsome man.
They were the Emperor Team, the strongest students from their imperial academy.
Unlike the Emperor Team, the second team were wearing a white uniform with golden serpent design. It showed the clear different between their status.
Ning Chen's eyes were steady, staring straightly with subtle excitement. He touched the golden and red band around his shoulder, feeling it was befitting him.
This band represented his status as the Emperor Team's supreme captain. It was a perfect position for him.
Ning Chen was now the captain because Yu Tianheng willingly handed him the position, thinking it was the best decision.
Ning Chen didn't rejected his offer and gratefully accepted it, promising that they will definitely win the tournament.
The Emperor Team also had the option of not joining the opening ceremony of the tournament since they were a seeded team, meaning they could advance to the finals without even fighting.
However, Ning Chen decided to attend the opening ceremony since it was the basic manners. He also thought it appropriate to show their greatness to the others.
Ning Chen then stared at the Shrek Academy, shaking his head as he saw their slightly embarrassed expression.
He was now feeling glad that he gave them the money to create a new uniform that was pleasant to the eyes and not something that can be considered as an eyesore.
He was talking about the horrendous green uniform with crappy designs he had saw once in the past.
Ning Chen definitely wouldn't allow his sister to participate in the tournament if she were to enter while wearing those embarrassing uniform.
He was sure his father would also feel the same...
An attendant soon approached them, saying it was time for the Imperial Academy's appearance.
Ning Chen nodded briefly, stabbing the end of the flag toward the ground. His eyes were emitting some vague golden lights.
"Now, ladies and gentlemen! Let us welcome the representative of our Heaven Dou Empire, the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy to the stage!" The host announced loudly.
"Imperial Academy for the win!"
"We're the greatest!"
"We're the strongest!
"We're the number one!"
The whole audience screamed extremely loudly with fanatic eyes. It was clearly much more terrifyingly intense compared to before, enough to shake the entire arena.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
A series of thunderous drums quickly resounded loudly, and a large amount of white mist flowed out from the entrance.
The other academies quietly watched everything that was currently happening. They felt angry, feeling there was a clear difference between the treatment between them and the imperial academy.
A series of light footsteps resounded everywhere, unknowingly replacing all the cheers and loud noises filling the arena.
Brilliant golden light intertwined with the white mist, making it have a sacred and holy feelings to it.
A grand majestic flag abruptly soar toward the sky, capturing all attentions and focus.
"We, the Imperial Academy, have arrived." A graceful, yet imposing voice spread everywhere, echoing through their ears.
The white mist soon disappeared into nothingness, and everyone's eyes were widened largely.
10 youths appeared out from within the white mist and their uniform was covered with faint golden veil, making them look grand and sacred to the eyes.
They were lead by a handsome man with a deep piercing eyes and was wearing an unique black uniform, making him stand out.
All of them looked powerful and majestic, making the others pale in comparison.
However, it was Ning Chen who captured everyone's attention, to the point his teammates were just like a mere background character.
His teammates didn't complained even with them knowing that. This was something natural and inevitable after all. They were just proud to have Ning Chen by their side.
Ning Chen ignored the countless eyes landing on him and just looked around the spectators area.
With his sharp and perceptive eyes, he was soon able to see Tang Yuehua, watching him Intently.
He looked toward her and briefly smiled widely, making those who see it to be quickly stunned and flustered.
Ning Chen was happy seeing her, but it was a shame that he could only fight at the finals, not now.
He really wanted to let Tang Yuehua see his cool side while fighting...
Tang Yuehua managed to feel Ning Chen looking toward her, but felt she was just imagining things. She was amongst the countless people watching the tournament, it was almost impossible to spot her.
However, Tang Yuehua saw him smiling toward her. It was the kind of smile that he would usually give her whenever they were alone, causing her doubts to vanish.
She quickly smiled back, inwardly feeling astonished. She wondered how Ning Chen was able to spot her..?
Tang Yuehua didn't know the answer, and her eyes unconsciously landed at the Shrek Academy.
She somehow felt someone was familiar over there...
Ning Chen smiled faintly and felt his blood boiling, making him grin largely. He then composed himself by looking at the other teams, inspecting them.
After assessing all of them, he was able to tell who was the strongest.
It was without a doubt, the five elemental academies and the shrek academy.
The five elemental academies were the Elephant Armour Academy, the SkyWater Academy, the Blazing Academy, the GodWing and the ThunderClap Academy.
The Elephant Armour Academy which focused on extremely powerful defense.
The SkyWater Academy was an unique academy that accepted both nobles and commoners. However, they would only recruit beautiful females with water-attribute spirits.
The Blazing Academy was filled with people with fire-attribute spirits. They were also pretty balanced, being good in all kinds systems.
The GodWing Academy was filled with people with air and flying-attribute spirit. They focused on speed, while also having decent attack power.
And lastly, the ThunderClap Academy. It was filled with lightning-attribute spirits. It was backed by the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, meaning they were formidable.
Although they were strong, Ning Chen was confident enough to easily beat them. It wasn't arrogance, but simply the truth.
Once all of the team had already arrived, the speech for the opening ceremony soon began.
It was mostly about the host talking with pleasantries and other stuffs, but Ning Chen didn't seriously paid any attention.
It was after all worthless and boring at the same time, causing him to lose all interest. But, he still showed an interested expression with a leaisure smile on the surface.
Ning Chen stared at the plateau, where the three most important people of this tournament were currently seated on their thrones.
The emperor sat at a throne casted out of pure gold and it was located at the middle of the two other thrones built besides him that were positioned lower.
On the emperor's left side, there was the platinum bishop Salas, the spirit hall's representative for the Heaven Dou Empire.
He was an old man, wearing expensive clothes and a platinum hat over his head.
Salas seemed to be also completely bored and disrespectful, not even trying to hide it from everyone, as if he had no shame.
Ning Chen frowned deeply, already disliking the attitude the bishop was displaying.
Located at the emperor's right side was Ning Fengzhi, Ning Chen's father. He wanted to scream and proudly tell the world that It was his father over there, but decided against it after realizing it was embarrassing, even for him.
"Now then, please listen to what his majesty, Xue Ye, will say to all of you!" The host said loudly.
Xue Ye slowly stood up from his golden throne, displaying his overbearing majestic aura everywhere.
Salsa just sneered quietly after seeing Xue Ye acting so proudly.
"I, Xue Ye, now declares to all of you that the tournament will now begin at this moment! Son and daughter of my empire, it's now your time to fight with honors and grasp glory!"
Clap! Clap! Clap!
After hearing those words, countless applause began spreading everywhere quickly.
And thus, the tournament soon started.

Kinda feeling lazy, but I'm gonna skip majority of the fight, while changing some key things like who's gonna reach the finals. It's mainly due to the emperor team only being able to fight at the finals.
Also, hey! Just because there's a R18+ tags, it doesn't mean there's naughty adult scene so very early ;) It means, there's just many cussing, slightly indecent things and blood(gore in the future).
