Chapter 101: Deeper into The Dungeon

Everything flashed white for a moment and I was dropped onto the floor of a hallway upside down.

I got up from my fallen stance and I quickly looked around, noting a very distressing detail:

The mechanic isn't near me.

"shit." I said loudly. "This is exactly the opposite of what I wanted to happen."

{What, sad because you lost a potential source of entertainment?} The Gods questioned sarcastically.

I nodded my head mutely since I heard the sound of bones rattling nearby.

{Wow.} They said in mock surprise. {We didn't know you were so cold. You almost remind us of ourselves.}

'You know damn well that's not the reason I'm worried.' I thought angrily, pissed at the fact they even thought of comparing me to them.

{But it IS one of the major reasons.} They commented.

'That is beside the point.' I chided.

{Well you better hurry up then, since it appears some people have a bone to pick with you.} The Gods said with a hearty laugh.

I groaned in annoyance, opting to ignore the joke in favor of focusing on the skeletons that had just rounded the corner at the end of the hallway.

I pulled out my favored weapon, the sunfury, and dashed towards the skeletons, my boots making a wet clanking sound.

The sound unnerved me more than the skeletons, but I would never admit that to anyone.

I could swear I could hear the Gods laugh mischievously at that thought, but I still focused on the skeletons.

They immediately turned to me and began walking towards me at a brisk pace.

"You know, I expected them to be faster." I said with disinterest.

I waited for them to be in my attack range before I lashed out with my flail.

It hit the side of one of the front skeletons before ricocheting off and striking another.

The result of that hit was two crushed chestplates and more than a few broken bones.

I stared at the skeletons in mild disappointment.

"I expected that to kill them..." I said with clearly faked sadness.

{Who are you talking to?} The Gods questioned. {If you haven't noticed, you are quite alone at the moment.}

"Because quiet is boring and boring is only interesting to boring people." I explained.

{Hmm... we guess that your explanation checks out.} The Gods commented. {We guess that we'll make this a little more interesting then!}

Those words usually meant nothing good for me.

"Oh no." I commented, striking out with m sunfury at the now medium-sized group of skeletons.

{Oh yes.} The Gods said, before a familiar tune began playing.

I raised an eyebrow for a moment before the tune registered in my mind.

"Really?" I questioned. "Out of all songs you could choose you went for Megalovania?"

{We enjoy it!} They exclaimed. {Do you wish for us to change the theme?}

"Unless the skeletons start shooting lasers at me." I said.

{Fine.} They said with a sad voice, switching to another popular tune related to skeletons.

This time the song brought a smile to my face.

"'Spooky Scary Skeletons', Huh?" I commented. "Haven't heard that in a while."

{We can't help but bring in a classic skeleton related song.}

I simply nodded my head in agreement, enjoying the music in the background.

A few moments later and the skeletons had been dealt with.

{Onwards to freedom!} The Gods shouted in my head.

I decided to oblige and dashed towards the end of the hallway, quickly turning the corner.

What I didn't expect was a large trap spanning the entire room.

I dashed into the room and felt the floor give out under me, the sensation reminding me of the wall I had walked through earlier.

"Oh." I said, not realizing the danger.

I looked down to see a floor layered with spikes, all gleaming in the dim light.

"Oh shit!" I said, now realizing that I may turn into a human-shaped piece of swiss cheese if I don't act quickly.

I shot a grappling hook back up at the floor I fell through, only for it to strike and break the brick it attacked to.

So I resumed falling, my momentum only slightly stilled by the moment of grip the hook had.

I decided to throw the hook at one of the walls of the pit, though the pit was too dark for me to see them at all.

As I threw the hook, I was a few seconds away from impacting the spikes, and the hook impacted the wall a moment before I impaled myself.

As I flew towards where my hook impacted the wall, I breathed a sigh of relief.

"That was probably the closest to death I've come so far..." I mumbled.

{It wasn't.} The Gods commented. {You're forgetting the queen bee incident.}

I thought back to it and remembered how i ended that particular fight.

"...Yeah, that might've been worse..." I admitted.

{Not might've, was.} The Gods corrected. {Now get out of this hole and find those damn crystals already.}

"So that's why I was here!" I said with dawning realization. "I guess I forgot due to my bad memory."

{You're becoming one of the best liars.} The Gods suddenly said.

I raised an eyebrow at the sudden remark.

"What do you mean by that?"

{A bit of advice from us.} The Gods said. {People believe the best liars are those that get away with them, but that is not true. The best liars are those that are able to convince themselves that their lie is the truth.}

"So you are telling me that my memory being nad is just something I made up?" I said with dawning realization.

{Have you ever heard of something called 'Asomatognosia'?} The Gods asked.

I shook my head, since I had no clue what it was at all.

{It is considered a neurological disorder that makes it so that a person completely loses recognition or awareness of a part of the body.} They explained. {It is similar to how you are acting, since you are simply denying the fact that your memory is actually decent, while you constantly say it is not.}

"Huh..." I replied, not really knowing what to say in response.

{But enough about that problem, let's focus on the other problem: Your health!} They said, quickly switching the topic.

I simply shook my head in amusement, before deciding to put the problem of my mental state off for later.

It was time to delve deeper into the dungeon, and I had no reason to stop here.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Cold_Housefire Cold_Housefire

I had to do a bit of googling to find that mental disorder, since I remembered what it was but not the name.

I hope you enjoyed the chapter, and the next one will most likely be in 2 days!
