Chapter 69: Not The Bees

The night passed quite quickly for me and Shiitake since we were enjoying our conversation, but peace and quiet never last long for me.

{Hey. We might have a problem...}

I groaned audibly.

"What went wrong this time?" I irritably questioned.

{Bees.}

"Bees?"

{Bees.}

'How in the world can bees be bad?' I wondered.

{Remember the last beehive you saw?}

I began to think about when I last saw a beehive, and the realization hit me like a truck.

"You mean the one in the jungle. There is no way in hell that I am going in there."

{You sure? Because those bees are gonna get real aggressive soon since they're about to have a new queen.}

"Define aggressive for bees."

{Suicidal fits of murderous rage against any living being.}

"That's bad. Really bad."

{And that's why I need you to get rid of them.}

"There better be a good side to this."

{The honey they make has regenerative properties.}

"Alright then."

{Also, try not to forget your surroundings every time you speak.}

As soon as the gods said that, I realized where I was.

I looked over to Shiitake only to see them looking at me with amusement.

"My 'friend' decided to tell me that the bees are going to go into a murder frenzy soon."

I watched as Shiitake's smirk quickly disappeared, quickly replaced with urgency.

"You have to tell this to the others. Now."

"Why? The bees will probably stay in the jungle, right?"

Shiitake looked at me seriously and began to explain where I was wrong.

"Those bees are not normal bees. They are an extremely invasive species and can survive in any climate in the world. They don't just leave the jungle, they claim entire regions."

"That's really bad..." I muttered, shocked by how dangerous the bees really were.

Shiitake continued.

"A queen takes that type of activity to a whole new level, making them extremely territorial against anything with a pulse. The problem is that they tend to take everything as their territory. So that's why you have to inform them." The truffle said seriously.

I decided to follow their advice and head back, quickly saying my goodbyes.

My last thought before I left was 'Wait how does he know so much about the bees if he stayed underground his whole life?'

The truffle seemed to notice my realization and quickly stated a simple response.

"I had an occasional visitor. And the crab had an occasional snack."

And I disappeared immediately after hearing the response, leaving with a quick "Oh."

I was quickly transported to my home, where I immediately ran into.

As soon as I entered the door I bumped into Isaac.

"What has in such a rush, boy?"

I quickly said one word: "Bees."

Isaac immediately became serious, understanding the threat entailed.

"Better hurry up and tell everyone you're going on another trip then."

I nodded and hurried towards the common rooms where the others usually relaxed.

I stepped in and saw that a few people were in the room, including Amidias, Jacob, Celeste, and Tinker.

Amidias was the first to speak up, noticing how I rushed into the room.

"Is there a problem? You seem a bit hurried."

I quickly responded, explaining the situation in a few words.

"The bees are getting a new queen and they're gonna go crazy soon."

Most of the room grew serious very quickly, only excluding Amidias and Celeste as they haven't been in this time period for long.

Jacob looked me in the eye and said a single sentence.

"I assume they gave you a job to do, so go and do it." He stated seriously.

I decided to respond with a bit of humor.

"You want me gone that bad?" I jokingly asked.

"I want the bees gone more, and I assume your 'friend' told you to get rid of them." He responded, obviously ignoring my attempt at lightening the mood.

I sighed and turned around.

"Well, I better get going now. It is quite early, after all." I said while walking away.

I left the room and headed outside of the house, a frown plastered on my face.

The jungle was going to be a pain in the ass, and I knew it.

-Somewhere undefined-

The four Gods stood at a conjured table, their forms slightly more solid than usual.

One of them looked at the center of the table, where a single screen floated.

"He's getting closer and closer to the point of no return. Are we sure we want them to go through all of this?"

The fourth God looked at the second and asked a simple question.

"Since when did you care for them?"

The second shot back with a similar but different question.

"Since when did we not?"

The fourth was quiet, understanding the point the second was trying to make.

They had watched the hero from the beginning of the story, and they enjoyed watching their journey so far.

They were the first of the heroes to so openly disrespect them, and it was something very new to them.

And even when going through all of the disrespect and trouble, they still helped the hero along in their journey, trying their best to help them survive.

The four Gods were silent, looking at the screen depicting the hero of the story.

The third spoke up, finally breaking the silence.

"So we're not gonna stop them?"

There was a unanimous "No." from every other God.

The Gods all broke into a Cheshire smile and began laughing.

The first spoke up, quickly calming down their laughs.

"Why in the world would we stop them? They get a free stress release, and we get entertainment. It's a win-win scenario for both sides. I just wonder how many bees they will kill before the old queen appears."

The other three Gods looked at the first, all still wearing their Cheshire smiles, and all began a betting match between themselves.

The Gods were enjoying their time, but our hero was not enjoying their walk.

-Back to Talon-

The trip has been going on for two hours, and I was bored.

I looked up at the skies and shouted.

"This trip is taking too damn long!"

I still had an hour of walking to go, but I didn't know that.
