I pulled out my mirror and gazed into it with Tinker.
I had gotten used to the experience of teleportation, but this was the first time Tinker had used a magic mirror.
It only took us moments to be teleported to my home, and Tinker was just staring into space with a blank look on their face.
I tried to snap him out of his dazed state by snapping my fingers in front of their eyes. There was no reaction, not even a flinch.
I tried again by waving my hand in front of their face, but that didn't work either, so I settled on poking him.
The moment I poked him he yelped loudly, enough for Jacob to come out of the house to see what the noise was.
"The hell was that ye- Oh!"
He cut himself off before he could finish his sentence the moment he saw me.
"You're finally back, after almost a day and a half of being missing."
I was surprised by how long I had been gone, but I pushed it aside in favor of making a comeback statement.
"well it's not my fault that another 'omnipotent being' decided to interfere in my life."
Jacob simply stared at me for about half a minute before sighing in defeat.
"Heroes and their ability to attract problems. It'll be the death of me."
{Again.}
I was startled by what the Gods said and instinctively asked a single question.
"What?"
{Not our tale to tell, nor is it relevant for the moment.}
Jacob just sighed in annoyance, surprising me with a resigned look.
"We'll talk about this later. Right now we need to talk about our latest additions." He said while gesturing to the dryad I was carrying and the dissociated goblin.
It was at that point that Tinker regained their focus and looked around.
They looked towards the buildings in the vicinity and seemed disappointed by how empty the area looked.
"I expected this place to look a little more... exciting than this."
I immediately shot back a response.
"Well excuse me for not having any experience in the architecture industry."
I 'felt' two eyes bore into my back, and turned around to see Jacob annoyedly glaring at me while taping their foot.
I had the urge to comment on the sight, and so I followed that urge.
"A little impatient, aren't you?"
Jacob's glare only deepened at my comment, obviously tired of my responses.
"Maybe next time you shouldn't disappear for a day and a half then. Maybe my patience wouldn't be so thin."
I decided that Jacob was quickly losing patience with me, and I hurried up and rushed over to him.
"We need someplace to put her. I don't think a grassy field is a good place for a person to sleep."
Jacob's patience was still at an all-time low, so he only responded with a curt nod and lead me towards one of the empty rooms I built into the house.
I suddenly realized something at that moment.
"You made me make all these rooms because you knew there was going to be a constant stream of residents, didn't you?"
Jacob didn't even look at me when he said his next words.
"People like you tend to attract crowds of people. I just know how to deal with those who stick around."
'That's... vague.'
Jacob seemed to read my mind when he said his next words:
"secrets are called secrets because they are meant to be kept hidden from plain sight. I speak vaguely because I have more secrets than you could ever imagine."
I was confused by his words, especially since he's never this talkative.
"You're never this talkative. Why now of all times to open up?"
"Because our mutual 'friend' just revealed one of my most important secrets, and there's no better time than now to reveal some things about myself." He said calmly, clearly showing how unaffected he was by the whole scenario.
"Why are you so calm about this? If I had one of my greatest secrets revealed I would be freaking out." I asked, genuinely curious about the reason he was so calm.
"Because this whole scene has happened to me dozens of times, meaning that I have learned to accept this scenario as an inevitability." He answered, calmly stating the answer with a flat voice.
"Huh."
"We're here."
I looked at the door we arrived at and noted that there was a floral wreath hung upon the door.
"Did you decorate this room just for Celeste?" I inquired.
"So her name is Celeste. I indeed made this room for the dryad to live in, as I assumed that you would somehow encounter her." He responded with a small amount of interest at the mention of her name.
We stepped inside the room, and I immediately saw that it looked nearly exactly like the room inside the abandoned dryad's tree.
"You really went for the whole dryad tree aesthetic, didn't you?" I commented dryly.
"If you want to have a comfortable home, you must be familiar with your surroundings. I just built the room to be familiar to a dryad." Jacob explained.
I wasn't expecting him to have a reason besides the fact that the room needed a theme, so I was surprised by the well-founded answer.
"Well now I don't have a reason to complain." I said.
Jacob looked at me with a small smile on his face.
"were you looking for one?"
I chose not to respond, knowing that he already knew the answer to that question.
We spent the next minute in silence before I remembered that Tinker was still waiting outside.
Jacob seemed to remember too, so he simply waved his hand at me dismissively.
"Just go ahead without me, I'll wait for them to wake up."
And so I left to seek out Tinker, hoping that they stayed at the spot we teleported to.
Too bad things are never that easy.
This whole chapter was exactly 1000 words.
I was kind of rushing near the end, so I hope it didn't affect quality too badly.
