I pulled out my magic mirror and looked into it, only for nothing to happen.
'Godsdamnit.'
It took me a minute to remember why it wasn't working, and then it clicked.
I looked up to the sky and said one sentence:
"Hey Universe, you forgot to fix my mirror!"
Not even a second later, a voice boomed back from the sky.
~No I didn't! Don't you remember why I did it in the first place?~
It only took me a second to remember this time, and I immediately turned to Tinker.
"We have to run. Now."
The goblin looked at me, perplexed.
"Why?"
I only responded with one word:
"Meteorites."
While Tinker still didn't understand what I meant, they still nodded anyways.
'I guess they could hear how serious I was.'
I focused my senses on the woods around me, hoping to pick up some sort of telltale sign of the location of the meteorites, and my luck came through.
There was the sound of crashing trees to the left of us, and I immediately turned to the opposite direction.
I turned to tinker and said one last word.
"Run."
And so we did.
I ran as fast as I could but soon noted that Tinker was not beside me. I turned around and noticed that Tinker was not running very fast, struggling to even lag behind me.
I turned around and ran towards tinker, grabbing him and picking him up in a princess carry.
Tinker looked at me and soon buried their face in their hands.
I could hear their muffled words.
"This is so shameful."
I looked at him and said only one line.
"Your dignity is a necessary sacrifice if you want to live."
The goblin took their head out of their hands and responded with an uncomfortable face.
"That doesn't make me feel better about being princess carried."
I said a single, short response:
"Too bad."
And so the run continued, unhindered.
For about two minutes.
I was focusing on finding a cave for the last two minutes, looking around for any kind of opening in the ground with little luck. And then the cause of the whole problem appeared from my side, announced by a loud whistle.
I immediately jumped up and jumped a second time aided by the sandstorm in a bottle, successfully launching myself above the fragment.
I sighed in relief at dodging the shard.
I looked down at Tinker, who seemed both scared and surprised at the meteorite.
"And that's why I told you to run. We got a whole swarm of them approaching."
My words only helped Tinker get even more scared.
And so we began running once more until I found a solution.
'I wonder if I could use the tundra to cool down the shards? I have no other options besides that and escape, so I guess I better test it...'
So I began running, hoping to find a tundra somewhere.
I didn't find one for the next ten minutes, slowly losing hope of ever escaping the mess of meteorites.
The only good thing to come from the search of the tundra was finding my original objective: a cave.
I decided to throw caution to the wind, since what could be worse than a giant swarm of floating, murderous meteorites?
Not much.
So I ran into the cave and closed the entrance with the stone I had on hand.
I immediately ran deeper into the cave, hoping to find a small offshoot of the cavern to hole up in.
I couldn't find a single offshoot meeting my requirements, so I decided to make my own.
I dug out a small path using my nightmare pick, only enough to fit a normal-sized person, and went in there with Tinker. As soon as I finished my path, I immediately widened the end of it until it was a sizeable room, enough to fit at least ten people with room to spare.
As soon as I widened the room enough, I began to fill in the path to the room, only leaving a few small holes to let in air.
I turned to Tinker, who decided it was time to start talking again. A sentiment that I agreed on.
"What the hell was THAT?!"
"Meteorites from our space. Apparently sentient, territorial, and about as hostile to anything sentient as you can be."
"Well that's... terrifying I'm going to be honest."
"If it wasn't I would think you have a problem."
"I agree with that sentiment."
Our conversation was cut short by a loud thud, a sound we were hoping to avoid hearing for a good amount of time.
"You have got to be fucking kidding me. Do they have some sort of tracking senses on them that lets them detect us?"
My outburst was regarded with a very lackluster response from the universe.
~Did I not tell you?~
"No you did not!"
{You definitely didn't tell them.}
"Oh great and now you're back."
{What is it with you and hating us?}
"So many things!"
~You tend to do things without thinking first, among that list of things.~
Our conversation was cut into by a very confused voice.
"Excuse me, but what is happening?"
I responded in the most serious voice I could muster.
"Quiet, I'm talking with the embodiment of the universe and the Gods."
Tinker just stared at me in stunned silence before saying a single word:
"What."
I looked at him with the straightest face I could handle.
"You heard me."
"I did, but why are you talking with them?!"
I was confused by how Tinker was reacting.
"Because I know them?"
Tinker started to get angry for some reason.
"Talking with the deities and creators of this world is not something you take so lightly!"
I tilted my head.
"It isn't?"
Before Tinker could yell at me anymore, the Universe cut into the conversation once more.
~To be honest, it really isn't something to take lightly.~
The universe continued, although in a slightly lower voice.
~Even if they are one of the worst Gods to exist.~
{Hey! Look at what we created here! It's a successfully working planet, is it not?}
~It may be successful, but remember that you have created universal threat after universal threat for the past millennium.~
{We dealt with it before they could end the universe!}
The gods spoke the next few words in a lowered voice that was almost a whisper.
{Well, all of the universe...}
~See! That's exactly the problem!~
I decided to cut in at that point, hoping to make them leave for a bit.
"Can we not have your argument here? I have a life-threatening problem on my hands, and I would like to be able to focus on it."
~Fine.~ {Fine.}
"Thank you."
I turned back to Tinker and immediately began speaking.
"I would recommend that you try and forget what had just happened. It'll be better for your mental health."
Tinker turned to me with complete and utter confusion written on their face.
"I think that's going to be harder than you say since my entire faith in the gods has been completely and utterly annihilated. Do you have to deal with this every day?"
"The arguments are new, but otherwise yes."
"I understand how you are able to talk to those beings so informally now. They do not deserve respect."
"You are more correct than you can imagine."
The conversation was cut short by a muffled crash that sounded from the other side of the closed tunnel.
"That's... not good at all."
Tinker turned to me and agreed wholeheartedly.
"Good to see that we have the same thoughts."
I am so confused right now since I have no idea what I just wrote, I just hope it's something with good quality.
Anyways, besides my pure confusion, I hope that I actually come up with an idea to continue this arc with.
I hope you enjoy this chapter!
