Chapter 6: Caving: Part 1

As I was approaching the cave, I thought back to what Jacob had said.

'He said it so seriously, it ALMOST sounds true.'

I still thought he was lying though.

Now let's see… Stacked with torches, check... Pickaxe, check… Dark monster infested hole, check… Yeah, I got everything for my delve.

I immediately started climbing down the hole, which was surprisingly east, since the sun was still illuminating the area at the moment. As I was walking, I noticed that there were a lot of vines hanging down. I guess that this place is largely unexplored.

Heading deeper, it finally started getting darker, and I was starting to see less and less of the cave. I decided to place some torches, and regain my eyesight back.

As I looked around the lit up cave, I noticed a simple wooden chest just sitting to the side of the path.

I decided to open the chest, since mimics can't exist, right? (not right now they don't.)

I saw several things: a book, several glow sticks, a literal pile of throwing knives, and a weird yellow potion.

I decided to check the book first, and it read 'Guide to Plant Fiber Cordage'. I decided to open it, and to my surprise, it started glowing.

The glow lasted for about 5 seconds, during which I was learning how to make rope out of vines. A surreal experience, since it is weird learning how to make vine rope with expert precision in a matter of seconds.

After that 'enlightening' experience, I decided to examine the potion, since the glow sticks and throwing knives are self-explanatory.

[Shine potion

Effect: makes you glow

Duration: 20 minutes]

Now that is very useful right now, since the caves are dark as hell.

I looked at the faintly glowing potion and just decided to drink it later, since I wasn't too deep at the moment.

I decided to head deeper now, but not before I made some vine ropes for easier travels.

As I was heading deeper, the dirt around me was slowly transitioning to stone. I guess I was getting pretty deep, since I began seeing the occasional vein of copper or iron (which I of course mined). I was slowly stacking up a nice hoard of ores.

After mining all I could see, I headed deeper, only to see a large drop straight down. I remembered my recent spoils, so I decided to throw a glow stick down the hole.

I watched the glow stick fall down, only to see it collide with a pressure plate and activate what I assume to be a bundle of dynamite based on the huge explosion.

At this point I decided it would be a good idea to use my vine ropes to climb down the hole. As I headed down, I took note of how everything was still dark. (thank god for torches). I lit up the area, and was once again surprised to see that there were several different ores lining the ground, as well as a wooden wall I assume is hiding something.

After I collected the several ores littering the ground, I finally headed to the wooden wall. I observed it for a minute and decided to break it down.

But at that moment, I heard a rattling sound behind me. I turned around, and guess what?

I was staring at a dull grey skeleton. and it stared back, with its empty sockets.

At least it had a miners' attire on, making it look slightly less intimidating. But it was still a skeleton who was running at me, so I may have gotten a little spooked and pulled out my sword to whack it with.

All I heard was a dull clang, even though I hit its skull. 'Jacob was right, the monsters are much stronger than the ones I fought before.'

the only proof I have of hitting it was that it had a large crack covering the side of its skull. The skeleton wasn't going to let me have an easy kill though, since it decided to rush at me. It tried to hit me with the pickaxe it had in its hand, only for me to dodge since it was easy to see it coming at me. I attacked it several more times, each one widening the crack on its head, until the skull finally gave in and collapsed inwards.

The body slowly disintegrated, leaving behind a single miners' helmet. It was still lit up too, so I guess I got lucky.

Anyways, back to the wooden wall. Since I decided to break it down, I did just that, and completely shattered it.

I looked past the wall and saw a cobweb covered room with some statues, a weird machine, a loom, and a chest.

I decided to look at the statues first, and noticed that they were rooted in place, so i did the most logical thing and hit it with my pickaxe, somehow dislodging it. I did the same with the others, ending up with 3 statues: a slime statue, a corruptor statue (Oh no), and a heart statue.

I also decided to grab the loom and the machine (which I learned is called an extractinator. weird name) before looking in the chest.

And finally, I looked at the gold chest. Not like the color gold, but actually made of gold, surprisingly enough.

I looked inside and saw several things of interest: A pair of green boots with wings, a small pile of bombs, a gold coin, and several more potions. I wonder what the boots are?

[Jagged Hermes Boots

Material

The wearer can run super fast

(+1% damage)]

So I guess I have running shoes now. At least they increase my damage output though.

Onto the potions now. I found 3 different potions in the chest:

[Gills potion

Effect: Breathe water instead of air

Duration: 10 minutes

quantity: 2]

[Dangersense potion

Effect: The ability to sense the sources of danger nearby

Duration: 20 minutes

Quantity: 1]

And another shine potion to add to my stack.

After looting the room, I decided to explore the cavern I accidentally expanded a bit more thoroughly, only to notice an entire area that looked like it got dyed white.

I wonder what's over there?

To be continued...

It is a little hard to make cave exploring interesting, but I tried my best.
