Chapter 5: My Darkest Secret
2 more days has passed. 4 days without sleep. This would normally make normal person go insane due to the lack of sleep. We don't know how our brain works and sleep deprivation is a very complicated matter.
Max locked himself inside his room. The data that was sent by the lab is very little and insufficient. So he already conducted the experiment on his own. First, he carried it out on lab rodents. After only 2 days on the gas, those creatures started to show paranormal activity and strange behavior. But he couldn't draw a clear result, what is the problem? The sleep deprivation or the gas itself?
If it was to carry out on a living human..... what will happen?
"I have something to confess"
Kent says with a dark tone. It's been 4 days, and personally, I feel so heavy. But to be precise, the heaviness come from my heart. I've been remembering some of the most things that I never want to remember.
"I sold my girlfriend just because I wanted money."
What was that?
"Look, I know you guys are judging me but listen. That was back when I was 18, young and dumb. Anna was a beautiful woman, smart, polite. She was perfect. Everyone was going after her."
He looks so confused whenever why he talks about this and what is going on.
"So anyway, we ended up dating for a while. And I was her first boyfriend and all. Then there's this guy who is rich and well-known. He comes to me and we become friends and stuffs. One day, when we were out partying, he bought drugs and we were high off the roof. He asks me about Anna.
I told him that we never go beyond kissing. So he offers me 5000 dollars and promised me to get me a position in the military through his dad. He said he only want to sleep with her for one night. That day I don't know what come over me. I agree to it so easily. Then the morning come, I saw the contract and everything like this guy even recorded the whole conversation. The time come, I took her out to the movie and some drink. We were having the time of our life. I drugged her drink and put her on his bed. Fast forward in the morning. I went there to pick her up.... I never forget that day. The day where I see her in bed with him naked. Her pale white skin is now full of bruised. Her hair a mess, her eyes are red, you can tell she's been crying a lot. The sparkle in her eyes are gone. She was pretty much dead. I remember the silent in our car when I drove her home. She didn't utter a word. I did get the money and the thing he promised, but I lost her. A few weeks later, she hang herself in her room. Her mom was terrified. It was awful. She wrote a letter with only the word goodbye."
We sat there and listen to Kent's story. Why did they seemingly kind man has done such disgusting thing. I can't imagine how Anna feel when she woke up in bed with a stranger. When she heard that her boyfriend sold her for money and status.
"Everyday I always feel like, she's there watching me sleeping with her hateful eyes."
We all went silent. Nothing would be compare to this. Human greed is the worst.
Jason looks at Kent.
"I also done many inhumane thing throughout my research as well."
