Chapter 19: Duke Fang

"Humans are cruel. Even if given the chance, they would rather die than be helpt. So, we are going to help with that." The king of Vampire's decred. Then sent his five favorite dukes to the five countries to make a pact. "Give us one man and one woman every year and we will bring you prosperity. Refuse, and we will kill five men and take five women every night." The Dukes said four out of five agreed. However, the fifth king was greedy and selfish. Though his wise man said he would get more than he gave. The king thought that this Vampire would take his gold. After a few hours of arguing, the Duke yelled. "Enough! For your selfish actions, you will lose everything you own and more! I, Duke Fang, will kill everyone here! Then, steal what is most precious to you!" The greedy king thought he meant gold.

After a few months, Duke Fang returned with ten vampire soldiers. Then, had his castle built on the board. Every night they killed five men, kidnapped five women, and enslaved five children. After three years of this, the king stopped worrying as his daughter was born. She brought joy to all who saw her. Once she was sixteen, the king reluctantly sent word to every prince and Duke that his daughter is to marry. Without knowing he sent that to Duke Fang, who was thrilled. "Men, look at this. That idiot king invited me to a ball in two months. He wants to marry off his daughter. I can even send her engagement gifts." Duke Fang and his men laughed at the stupid king. "I'll go see what this princess is like. I might steal her early." They laughed as Duke Fang left.

Of course, it's a joke. Duke Fang hadn't finished tearing his kingdom apart. Once he made it to the castle, he made himself invisible. "My lady, please understand. Your father only wants the best for you." "I know but, I don't even know these men and they already sent me engagement gifts and letters. This one is Grandpapa's age. I don't know, I just think father should tend to the Vampire's before worrying if I'm married or not." "My lady, the problem is that you are thinking too much. A lady is beautiful. She has no reason to think." "Of course, thank you for the reminder." "Off to bed, my lady." "Good night, Anne." Duke Fang was entranced by her beauty. But, more than that he was interested in her brain. No woman he met made a statement like that and was right about it. He left with every intention of winning her over fair and square.

Duke Fang started by writing a letter. "Dear Princess Violet, I think you're more than your looks. Please, let me see inside your head. Tell me anything you wish.

Sincerely, Duke Fang." Princess Violet was taken aback. She never heard of Duke Fang. Looking over the guest list she found him very easily. Not wanting to be rude she sent a reply. "Dear Duke Fang, I'm not sure what to say. I didn't recognize your name. However, I did find you on the guest list. My father said you haven't sent a reply to the invite. Are you going to come? I understand if you can't.

Sincerely, Princess Violet." After reading Duke Fang sent two letters. One to the king except his invitation. One to the princess. "Dear Princess Violet, I must have misplaced that letter. I do intend to come to the ball. If you don't mind, I wish to make a gown for your big night. What color would you like? What type? Of course, I'd need your measurements too. I understand if you're not willing. However, it would mean the world to me, if you wear a dress specially made for you.

Sincerely, Duke Fang."

After reading, Princess Violet called her ladies in waiting to help with measuring. "Dear Duke Fang, I won't love to wear something you made for me. I like blue and simple. My measurements are 42,32,41. Today, I saw some butterflies on my roses. It was so beautiful. What are your favorite flowers? What's your favorite color? How tall are you? Do you have multiple wife's? Sorry, I'm just curious. You don't have to answer.

Sincerely, Princess Violet."

Duke Fang laughed as he gave into her curiosity. "Dear Princess Violet, I am more than happy to give you answers to every question you have. I like white rosas like the ones I sent you. I have two colors I like, red and white. I'm 5'10 and at the moment I don't have any wives. My lady, I have come across a taribable problem. It seems I have fallen in love with you. I look forward to your letters and I keep thinking of the day you marry. Sometimes, I imagine being the one you marry. Other times, it's someone else. I will let you marry if you are happy with him. If not, I'll steal you away.

Sincerely, Duke Fang."

Before Princess Violet could read his letter, her father told her to marry Prince Alexander. Though it upset her, she agreed. Once she read the letter, she began to cry. Duke Fang sneaks in to see how his love reacted to his letter. When he found her crying, he saw his letter in her hand. Before he left, she began to speak. "Why? Why didn't you tell me sooner? Duke Fang! Duke Fang! Why couldn't I read your letter before talking to my father?" She cried even harder. Once she began to calm, she began to write her reply. Duke Fang decided to read it as she wrote. "Dear Duke Fang, I love you as well. However, my father has decided that I will be marrying Prince Alexander. I have never even spoken to or even seen him before. At the ball, father will make it public. If I had it my way, I'd be marrying you. However, I don't get a say. My job is to be quiet and look pretty. I'm sorry, my love but this is where this has to end.

With all my love, Princess Violet."

Once Duke Fang returned, he went on a rampage. Flipping tables and smashing vases. Once he began to calm, he remembered what he told the king. With the ball, one week away he began to laugh. "Men, the king is a fool. I was ready to give him peace for his daughter's happiness. However, she isn't happy with the man he chose. So, get ready! We're going to a ball! And this time I'm not leaving without what I want." Duke Fang got everything ready for the ball. Even the dress for Princess Violet. He kept it in his room. They left in disease with the invite. Duke Fang got his man in very easily, while he walked in as a guest. He mengled for a bit before finding Princess Violet. She was dancing with a ladd. He made his way to them. "Excuse me, may I dance with the young lady?" The lade looked at him and smiled. "Sister, do you wish to dance with him?" "Yes, if you don't mind?" "Then, you may." The ladd ran off to the desert table.

Princess Violet began to dance with him. "My dear, what upsets you so? Is it my ugly mug?" "No, dear sir. I am not fond of my fiance." "Where is he?" "He is with my father; deciseing our wedding. In a moment, my father will be announcing it." "I see." Just then trumpets sounded. The Princess gave a curtsy and excused herself. Duke Fang whistled; signaling his men. "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you all for coming. In one week, my daughter; my most precious jewel, will be married to Prince Alexander." Alexander went to take Violet's hand as laughing  could be heard. Duke Fang's men sprung into action, grabbing the princess. "KING CONOR! I warned you! I have killed everyone around you and now, I will steal what is most precious to you!" Duke Fang yelled. The king fell to his knees, "Please, take anything else! Just not my daughter!" "Now, you care? What of your people? They lost more than just a daughter! They lost mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters! Every night they lived in fear as you turned a blind eye! This is what I told you would happen! You are a foolish king! Going as far as to invite your enemy to a ball! Now, the princess is mine!" Duke Fang laughed as he left.

Princess Violet called in vain for her father. Once they got to the castle of the Duke, his men  gently placed her in Duke Fang's room. Confused and upset, Princess Violet cried on the bed. Duke Fang had his men protect the castle. After everything was done, he went to his room to find her still crying. "What has you so upset?" Princess violet was startled. "Is it your father?" She nodded. "You miss him, don't you?" She nodded as she began to cry again. Then, he noted that she knows him by the letters, not by looks. He pulled out her replies and handed them to her. She looked at them as it slowly clicked. "Duke Fang?" He smiled and nodded. "Why? Why did you do this?" "If you're not happy, I'll steal you away. I did tell you that in my last letter. Your father tested his luck one to many times." Violet thought for a moment, "You didn't tell me you were a vampire." "You didn't ask." "Are you going to drink my blood?" "No, I have no intention to hurt you."

"Then, what are you going to do?" "First on my list was sleep. I have been up for seven days. Next was to eat and last was to go home. Hopefully, with you as my wife." "Wife?" "I do love you and wish for your happiness." Violet finally calmed as she patted the bed. Duke Fang sat beside her. "You won't let me go, will you?" "Not right now. However, next mouth I can." "No, I ment romantically." "Oh, yes, you're mine forever in that sense." "Then, next month let me say goodbye to my father. For now, let's go to bed." Duke Fang smiled as he lied next to her for bed. That month went by very fast. On the last day, Duke Fang let her go with her promise to return. One of his men followed her. She told her father what happened and he understood. He even gave them his blessing. However, the prince was still there and didn't like these turn of events. Before heading back she took a nap. The prince saw this as an opportunity and stabbed her.

The vampire following her rushed back to his master and reported. Duke Fang rushed to her side. He told the king what his men told him. Then, left with her bleeding in his arms. The king sent the prince's head back with a note explaining why. As for Duke Fang, to save her life he had no choice but to change her into a vampire as well. Within two weeks, Violet woke up in her love's arms. Duke Fang expanded what happened and what he had to do. Violet kissed him. "I love you. You did the right thing, dear." Violet, no longer able to go back, followed her husband. They later found, violet was pregnant. The two lived happily with their children.
