Chapter 40: It’d Be Good That He Really Didn’t Like Her

Editor: Noodletown Translations

The sun had set and the evening lights had turned on by the time Mo Jintian finished his IV. Mo Jintian had fallen asleep before he finished his IV, probably because he was sick.

Bai Yansen was going to reach out to cradle Mo Jintian, but Su Xiqin was one step ahead of him. She said, "CEO Bai, let me do it."

Mo Jintian was a five year old boy and was rather big for his age, thus he was not at all light. Su Xiqin got into an accident recently and had not fully recovered, so carrying her son now was slightly difficult for her.

Bai Yansen saw how Su Xiqin couldn't even straighten her back, so he said with a frown, "Can you actually do it?"

Suddenly, Su Xiqin blushed and wondered if this was a slap on the face. "I can do it. It's not like it's the first time either," an emotionless voice sounded from behind. Only then did Su Xiqin straighten her back.

"Thank you" she said.

Bai Yansen acted as if he didn't hear her. Instead, he used his jacket to cover the boy and pick him up before walking out.

"Why are you still standing there?" Bai Yansen urged when he had reached the door, turned around, and saw that Su Xiqin didn't follow him.

Su Xiqin didn't resist and walked over.

Bai Yansen carried Little Milk Bun out of the hospital. In the car, Su Xiqin held onto the little guy in the back seat, and Bai Yansen raised his head and looked at these two from the rear-view mirror.

"It's late already. I'm going to take you out for dinner first before sending you home."

"I already wasted your afternoon. I can't waste your dinner time too. You can send us directly home."

Su Xiqin spoke to Bai Yansen politely. After all, Bai Yansen had done above and beyond their relationship as business partners this afternoon. They were basically strangers outside the business connection, but what he did for her today was a lot, and she felt uncomfortable about it.

"I bumped into you, so I need to be responsible for my actions. As to Jintian, he is my friend, so it's natural to help out a friend when he needs it," Bai Yansen said calmly, hinting that Su Xiqin was overthinking.

Su Xiqin glanced over his figure and frowned. "Even so, we already wasted too much of your time," she said.

Bai Yansen didn't respond, and Su Xiqin didn't speak further either. Silence grew in the car and remained that way for the rest of the journey. Occasionally, Bai Yansen would look at Su Xiqin from his rear-view mirror. He saw that she was looking down, as if she had a lot on her mind.

His eyes were deep, and he frowned as he looked ahead at the road.

When they reached Sulin Dwell, Bai Yansen got off the car first and picked up Mo Jintian, who was sound asleep, from Su Xiqin's hands.

"I can carry him up," Su Xiqin said, as the weight on her hands disappeared, and she yearned to grab her son back.

Bai Yansen, who was carrying Mo Jintian, saw that Su Xiqin was reaching out, so he frowned and glared at her sharply.

The meaning behind his stare was obvious. Su Xiqin had only reached out her hands half way before she sensed his piercing look. She was a little afraid, so she slowly put down her hands and looked down.

While she looked down, Bai Yansen started walking forward and said, "You're in charge of pressing the button in the elevator."

Su Xiqin bit her lips and followed him. She opened her apartment door. When she bent down to change her shoes, she realized that there were no male slippers prepared since there were no men in the household. She changed into her slippers, got up, and spoke to Bai Yansen.

"There are no male slippers. I can carry the kid from here."

"You couldn't carry him in the hospital. Why are you still trying to appear tough?" Bai Yansen said mercilessly and pierced her white lie. She felt her face heat up and could only pull back her open hands.

"You can wear my slippers!" She immediately took off her slippers and put them by his feet.

Bai Yansen looked down at those size 37 slippers. His shoe size was well into the 40s. How was he going to fit?

At the end, he took off his shoes and walked in without slippers, stepping onto the floor with his white socks while carrying Mo Jintian. He calmly asked, "Where is his room?"

Su Xiqin froze for a second when she saw Bai Yansen move in her house. Only when he asked her did she regain her senses. She put on her cotton slippers and led him into Mo Jintian's room.

When Su Xiqin came out of Mo Jintian's room, she saw Bai Yansen talking on the phone on her balcony, with his back facing her.

Normally, there were only her and her son in her house. She felt rather uncomfortable that Bai Yansen was suddenly here now, and yet she didn't know how to kick him out.

She turned around and went to get some water. When she came back from the kitchen, Bai Yansen had finished his call and came back inside. He was still in his white socks. With elegant steps, he walked towards the side of the sofa and sat down. Cross legged, he turned towards Su Xiqin.

Su Xiqin grew anxious with his glaze. In order to disperse that anxiety and break the awkward atmosphere, she passed the glass of water to him.

"Here's water. Thank you so much for today."

Bai Yansen saw the glass of water but didn't grab it. Instead, he looked up and gazed into her eyes.

Su Xiqin felt rather uncomfortable with his gaze, so she put down the glass of water on the glass coffee table. "Pang" It was the sound of the glass hitting the table, dispersing some of the heaviness in the room's atmosphere.

"Only you and your son live here" he suddenly asked.

Su Xiqin backed up a few steps, looked at him, and said after blinking. "No. My family of three lives here."

Bai Yansen frowned. His gaze towards her sharpened as he asked, "Then why are there no male slippers?"

His voice was still calm, but Su Xiqin felt like his words were harsher than reprimand. He exposed her lie, and she didn't know how to react. She clasped her hands together as she walked towards the sofa for a seat. I already told him so much. Why don't I make everything clear? She looked up and opened her mouth.

"CEO Bai, to tell you the truth, there is only my son and I who live here, so it's kind of like a widow with her son. It's slightly inappropriate that you're here right now because my husband might show up any minute. If my husband sees you here, he will mistake us for something we're not, so please leave if you don't have anything else. I don't want to cause you any additional trouble."

Su Xiqin knew that she wasn't holding back when she said this, but she still had to say this. She was indeed married. Although her relationship with Mo Xigu wasn't great, she did not want to create rumours of her cheating. It would only make the situation worse.

Bai Yansen looked up and squinted at the woman before him. For a long time, he did not speak.

Su Xiqin gazed at the glass of water on the glass coffee table that wasn't touched. What Bai Yansen said before he left was still echoing in her ears.

"For someone who is already married, you sure think too much. You'd really need to evaluate who you are to think I'll like you."

Yes. I am indeed married. Why would someone like Bai Yansen like me? It is good that he isn't fond of me.

She rejected him before, so his help today might be a different tactic of getting close to her.

However, the actions he did today, how he acted from the school to the hospital, was truly that of a father. Of the past five years, this was the first time that she wasn't alone with her son at the hospital. She would be lying if she said that she wasn't touched by his actions, especially after seeing how he comforted her son and when he scolded that nurse for hurting Mo Jintian; it was as if he were Mo Jintian's real father.

It was so real and so lovely.

Yet, he wasn't Mo Jintian's father. His actions would only cause her life to be more unpeaceful.

Her life was chaotic enough; she did not want any more chaos in her life.
