Chapter 18: Ch. 18: Her

I show my fangs and growl. My tail swinging side to side. I crouch low, ready for an unexpected attack, not knowing what my mother will do now. How did she get here? How did she know where I was?
"Hello… Mother." I had almost completely forgotten what she looked like. Her scales are a dark red, almost a black color, and she has bright golden eyes, eyes that have caused and seen death, she doesn't have horns on her head like I do but she has very sharp spikes that go down her back to her tail. Her wings are a greater span than mine, at the ends of each vertebra on her wings there was a single elongated spike, that could, if done correctly, stab a dragon through their tough scales and pierce their heart, killing them instantly. She towers before me, an aura of confidence and chaos, just looking at her tells you that you will die if you get in her way. I look down, she still has the mark on her shoulder, I wonder if the human she "bonded" with is still alive, I don't know if there's a change or effect in this "Bonding" relationship.
Mother is staring at me intently, watching my reaction. I stay posed for anything really, Mother was a sly and smart dragon, she'll always use any opportunity she had and saw. I hear her laughter.
"Come now, my darling Emberlynn. You don't need to be worked up about my being here. I'm just picking up a small… package… " She looks down to her shoulder, excitement runs off her then she sneers at me. I tense up more, what's going on?! She walks toward and I back up until my flanks are against the wall, She turns and I see a chain around her neck, a giant ring of metal. My growling intensifies.
I'm not going with you!! I yell, my heart pumping with adrenaline. Mother makes a smug look.
I'm still going to get the human, even if it isn't willing to go with me, it's still going. Now, where is it? She says and launches towards me, I brace for impact…
