Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Stir-Fried Vegetables with Pork
Jumping towards the pig, Gon slams his fishing rod on its forehead. The pig makes a cry as it dies, falling onto its back.
Esther: "So that's how you do it."
Killua: "Could their foreheads be their weak point?"
Kurapika: "So the pigs evolved large, strong noses in order to protect their soft foreheads."
Everyone starts attack the pigs foreheads. I wait on a tree as it comes closer to me. Jumping off into it's forehead as I attack it with my legs. Got my pig. We return to the mansion to start cooking. Everyone is just placing the pig onto the griller without any other action.
I look at my ingredients to determine what I should make. During my time at Whale Island, Aunt Mito taught me a lot about cooking; I also read some stuff on it too. Hopefully, I can create something good. Oh, I have an idea. Taking a bowl from under the table, I put it under the sink and start adding water. I pour this water onto the pig to wash it off. After feeling that it's clean enough, I take a knife and slit it's throat. I let the blood pour out as I open it up and using the tongs, pull out the bones one by one.
After letting the blood out, I use water to wash the inside and outside. I first wash the knife in the sink and clean it with the cloth before cutting the pig up into small, square pieces. Getting a large skillet, I place it on the griller. I go back and take out some vegetables from the bowl and start chopping them with another knife. I turn on the griller, letting a low flam burn. Taking the pork, I pour it into the skillet, followed by chopped up garlic.
I go back and look under the sink and grab oyster sause. Then, I pour it into the skillet as well. I stir fry for about 10 minutes. I hear someone shout. I look, and it's the Mint lady.
"Hey! Can't anyone out there satisfy me?"
I go back to cooking, I can hear Kurapika saying something to Gon and Leorio. Going back to my board, I chop more vegetables. I slowly add it in and stir broccoli, green pepper, carrots, cabbage, celery, bean sprouts, zucchini, and green onions into the skillet. I grab the salt, and add a bit of it into the skillet as well. I stir it for about 6 to 8 minutes. I hear mint lady shout again.
"IS THIS SUPPOSED TO BE A KIDDY MEAL?!"
Seems that whatever Leorio gave to her, she didn't like it. Same with Gon, they're doing it all wrong.
"IT'S BASICALLY THE SAME THING!"
Kurapika is next, she takes a bite.
"YUCK!"
Oh god.
"Appearance is important, but only if it also tastes good. You're no better than number 403!"
Oh man, that's Leorio'a number. That's gotta sting. I grab a bowl and pour in water from the sink. I grab soy sauce and cornstarch then mix it in the bowl. I grab the remaining vegetables and stir it into it until the sauce thickens. Turning off the griller, I let it sit for a bit. I then pour the sauce onto it and place it on a plate. I've made two. Hopefully I can pass.
I take it to the examiners. Gon, Killua, Leorio, and Kurapika are staring. Please don't let me be as bad as Leorio… Placing it in front of the examiners. The huge one eats it and says yes. Mint lady is staring at it, what is she thinking about? I start to feel fidgety. She takes a bite of it, and nods.
"This must be stir-fried vegetables with pork. Judging by the taste and looks, you must have heated oil in a wok or large heavy skillet. Add chicken or pork, garlic, and oyster sauce, and stir-fry for 10 minutes. Later, you stirred in broccoli, green pepper, carrots, cabbage, celery, bean sprouts, zucchini, and green onions. Season with salt, and stir-fry for 6 to 8 minutes. Then, In a small bowl, mix together water, soy sauce and cornstarch. Stir into vegetables, and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, or until sauce is thickened."
She looks up, I'm frozen in place.
"It's a simple dish, but from what I've seen so far. It is the best. You've passed."
