Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Not Old
As they run, I contemplate if I should join them. I can hear applicants drop out one by one. One of them, even more so than others. He screams as if he's broken. I see the fat guy give three dudes some money. Does he have something to do with it? The moustache guy speeds up again. We have been running for 4 hours. Leorio seems tired, maybe I should help?
Leorio drops his suit case. He pants for a bit, trying to get some air. I jump off my skateboard as Gon and Killua pass me. I turn back and walk towards Leorio. I can hear Gon stopping as well.
Esther: "Hey, Leorio. Need something to drink? I have water."
I take out a bottle from my sleeve and hold it out to Leorio. He looks at it for a bit before taking it and pouring it all over his face. I turn back and see Gon and Killua looking at us.
Leorio: "Screw that! I'm gonna become a hunter!"
Leorio charges, forgetting his suit case on the ground. I walk up to it and pick it up. Leorio charges pass Gon and Killua. That's commitment if I've seen one. I run to Gon and Killua. Killua is looking at my sleeve.
Killua: "No. Seriously, how much can you fit in your sleeve?"
Esther: "How much do you think I can fit in there?"
Gon: "Hurry. We don't want to be left behind."
We run. I feel somewhat tired. I'm up to making a maximum of 18 items. Doesn't matter what size, it's the same energy taken. Running more longer, I see stairs. Oh stairs, my enemy. The moustache guy speeds up again. Literally prancing as if they aren't there.
Killua: "Hey. Wanna race to see who finishes first?"
Gon: "Sure. The loser has to buy dinner."
Esther: "Oh! Then count me in!"
Killua: "Ok. You're on!"
Ki and G: "Ready? Go!"
We speed up. I see Leorio without a shirt, he looks goofy. Kurapika seems to be talking with him about something. We run pass them.
Gon: "See you at the goal Kurapika."
KIllua: "Catch you later, old timer."
Leorio: "I'm not old! I'm a teenager, just like you guys!"
I can feel Gon, Killua, and Kurapika shocked. I laugh.
Esther: "Told you! You look like an old man!"
Leorio: "Shut up!"
Killua: "What?!"
Gon: "No way!"
I can hear people dropping out left and right. That speeds up the process. We continue racing up the stairs.
Killua: "I'm surprised that you can keep up with me."
Gon: "Really?"
Killua: "Or maybe it's just that everyone else is too slow. Man… the hunter exam is going to be a breeze. That's no fun."
Esther: "Really? I'd trade you my motion sickness. Maybe that will make it harder?"
Killua: "You have motion sickness?"
Esther: "Yeah. Don't look if you see me feel bad though."
Gon: "So Killua. Why do you want to become a hunter?"
Killua: "Me? I'm not really interested in becoming a hunter. I heard the exam was supposed to be really hard, so i thought it'd be fun. But this is disappointing. What about you?"
Gon: "Well, my dad's a hunter. So I want to become a hunter, like my dad."
Killua: "What kind of hunter is he?"
Gon: "I don't know."
Killua: "That's kinda weird. You want to be like your dad, but you don't know anything about him?"
