Chapter 14: Kiss The Rain

*Trigger warning for this chapter*

The week was moving at a snail's pace. With training being cancelled for the week, it was considered to be everyone's one and only vacation. The entire Army would be spending time with their families and friends, couples trying to conceive children, and everyone minding themselves. Kordelia and Alekai had made their own little haven in his sleeping quarters, both of them refusing to leave the room. The only time they were spotted by any of their comrades was in the mess hall to eat every evening.

Kore watched Alekai's back muscles shift with his movement. She had just woke from a short nap, curled up with his sheets and pillows, in the center of his large bed. His scent had lulled her to sleep, finding her comfort there. He had been sitting at his desk, going over plans for the next attack from Egraria. Even though they hadn't heard or seen anything, they always knew there would be another. She stood, his shirt falling down her waist and stopping mid-thigh. It was rather large, falling off on one side, exposing her shoulder. She brought the onyx sheet with her, keeping herself wrapped up, refusing to let it go.

Silently padding over to his side, she placed her hand on his shoulder affectionately. He didn't even look up, but only opened his arm, gripping her waist gently, and leading her down into his lap to curl up there. He kept his attention on the blueprints in front of him, placing a soft kiss at her temple. Absentmindedly, Kore played with the ends of his loosely-tied hair. The white stood out against her tan skin and she started to hum softly.

"How did you sleep?" His chest did that same comforting rumble.

"Fine." She sighed, breathing deeply against his neck. "I wish we could stay like this forever."

His fingers traced her curves and she looked up. He was gazing down at her with a small smile and it lit up her entire world. The swell in her chest only grew larger when his lips connected with hers, obviously giving his response.

"Forever is an awfully long time." He chuckled.

"And it still wouldn't be enough. What are we going to do?" She puzzled her brain for a proper question. "After the Unionization week is over?"

They were coming up on only two days left, and Kore didn't want things to go back to the way they were. She had tasted joy and didn't want to give it up. It might be selfish, but she didn't want to have to pretend, or at the very least, she didn't want to face Adonai in training. Her skin crawled with the notion, and as soon as he felt it, Alekai soothed the ruffles.

"We will take it day by day. We will get through this, my Rose. Everett can't force me to settle down since he had me re-enlisted. We will end this war, and the rules will be disbanded. Everett will no longer be able to hold us accountable, and we will be able to do as we please. We just have to be patient."

"And Adonai?" She murmured. "He wants me, if only to exert control. Alekai, I cannot fight next to him. He has Jac in his pocket, and I just can't." Her shoulders dropped in defeat. "You seem very optimistic for a man that signed his life away on hope."

Alekai held her firmly, tightening his fingers against her small waist, his nails slightly digging into her skin until she jumped gently.

"You do understand that we could end up dead for this?" His tone was flat. "We are risking everything for these small moments. We will have to go back to the way things were, at least around everyone else. Adonai will be lucky to see the first frost if he keeps testing my patience."

"They're not small to me." She huffed. "I don't want to have to pretend anymore, Kai. It hurts too much."

He silenced her protests with a kiss, pulling her body closer to conform to the shape of his own. She sighed in defeat and allowed the closeness. His arms circled her waist, fingers dragging down against the skin of her back. A small moan escaped Kore's lips as he drank from her.

They both jumped when a knock sounded at Alekai's door. He stood instantly, swooping Kordelia up gently and shrouding her in darkness behind the door, against his closet, before opening the entry only by a crack.

"Is Kordelia here? Wolfe said she might be." The voice whispered.

Kore came around the corner from her hiding spot, and placed a soothing hand on Alekai's tense arm. She smiled, and did a half wave. Riggins stood in the doorway, looking sheepish as ever, blushing when he realized how inappropriately Kore was dressed, and immediately looked at his feet while clearing his throat.

"I didn't mean to interrupt..." The burning of his face worsened.

"Riggins, it's fine. You weren't." She side-stepped, covering her lower half behind Alekai. "What can I do for you?"

"It's Wolfe. He has new information for you. He wouldn't say about what. He just asked that I come to tell you that he needs you down in his lab. As soon as you're...erm...finished. He said that I could find you...erm...here." He refused to make actual eye contact with Alekai.

Silly boy.

"I'll be down there shortly. Just let me change. Thank you, Actaeon." She smiled. "And could you possibly...not say..."

"I wouldn't do that to you, Kore." He stated before she could finish. "As far as I'm concerned, you nor I were ever here. Commander." He saluted entirely too quickly, a small smile, and then was gone.

Alekai closed his door after checking the hallway and turned to find Kore dragging on his clothes. She had to use the drawstring on his sweatpants doubled over to keep them on her hips, and kept his shirt on. He smirked at her wardrobe.

"You do have your clothes here."

"Why would I want to wear those?" She countered.

"The would fit you better and be less conspicuous, for obvious reasons." He shot back.

"They don't smell like you, and that's too much work. I'm feeling rather lazy today." She grinned. "I will be back shortly. It must be important if Wolfe needs to see me."

He closed the small space between them and lifted her in his arms. One hand drew her face up, his lips lightly brushing against hers. "Hurry back." He whispered against them before releasing her.

Kordelia hadn't made it back to Alekai all afternoon. He was probably wondering where she had got off to considering the lateness she was leaving Wolfe's lab. She had a headache forming in the back of her skull where all the new information Wolfe had given her still lingered. Nothing could ever go according to plan, but they were damn well trying.

It would be easier if she didn't have to keep secrets from her team. Her squad would most definitely have some pointers and put her in the right direction. It was hard planning the beginning of the end. She might not even survive it, and it could just be a lost cause. But she was going to do it regardless. Better to have done it and failed, than not to have tried at all. Though, on the other side of the cloth, they could very well disagree with everything she was planning to do, and try to stop her. They could call it madness or hysteria, but that still wouldn't slow her efforts for a better future for them all.

Lost in thought, she hadn't sensed the presence that came from behind. The hallways would be empty for the remainder of the evening and most of tomorrow until the festivities were over. It was unexpected. What was even more unexpected was whose arm came around to circle her neck, pulling her backwards into the wall. The sudden jerk caused her to sway off balance, her head colliding with the wall.

Her focus blurred for a moment and as it slowly came back, the face of her tormentor hid in the shadows. His voice snaked across her skin, like a serpent in the grass, causing a shudder to reach down her spine. Like poison, it caused a burning in her chest as fear took over before instinct. Exactly the opposite of what she was trained to do.

"Finally out from the cave you've been hiding in, hm?" His face bent forward, one hand squeezing at her throat, nuzzling his way past her jawline and next to her ear.

She croaked against his grasp. "Adonai.."

He only squeezed harder in response, inhaling deep at the base of her neck. His other hand slithered under Alekai's baggy shirt, pawing at her curves, reaching higher towards her breast. She squirmed under his hands, reaching for her hip, finding it bare. The mental slap came quick when she realized she had left her dagger on Alekai's nightstand, next to her perfectly folded clothes. She instead went for his roaming hand, choking out a growl as she gripped his wrist, digging her fingernails into his skin. He yanked his hand away from her grip, snarling at the marks she had left in her wake. Kordelia took that moment to scream out with purpose.

Adonai released his hold on her throat, and Kore gasped audibly, just before the same hand came down across her mouth, muting her. She instantly tried to remove his hand from her lips.

"What's so special about the Commander?" He whispered into her ear. "Why will you let him touch you? Or has he even had the pleasure?"

In horror, Kore continued to squirm when his wandering hand slipped under Alekai's sweatpants. Her eye began to water, even though she willed herself not to show any weakness. His fingers slipped through her panties, about to enter her body. Kore pushed off the wall, gripping each of his wrists with one hand of her own, causing Adonai to begin to struggle with his effort. His fingers slipped against her mouth, and Kore did the only thing she could think of.

She bit down on his hand, as hard as she could.

She refused to let go, even when he yelped in surprise, even as she heard the all to familiar sound of bones crunching, even as his blood filled her mouth. She latched there, adding as much pressure with her teeth as she could, tears escaping when suddenly there was nothing left to bite.

Adonai howled in pain as Kordelia spat his littlest finger to the ground beneath them. He withdrew his hands, only Kore wasn't done, sniffling as she approached him. Her knee connected with his groin, and when he doubled over, she spat his blood on his face with a snarl.

"There are no words for this. You are scum. You are nothing. You are less than nothing."

Before he could grab for her again, Kordelia skipped out of his reached, leaving him in the little alcove by himself, hissing in pain.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
RDxElsie RDxElsie

I am so sorry, everyone! Covid-19 has taken it's toll on my household. Thankfully, none of us have gotten sick. But my husband and I are, both, essential workers and have been working massive amounts of overtime, and trying to keep our kids happy since they are out of school for the rest of the year! I hope you all are staying safe, and staying healthy!

With all my love and gratitude.
