Chapter 45: Cate almost found out
It's been a couple weeks now since I got home from my trip to Camille island. I've been laying low and I have been researching witch history and learning about forgotten and forbidden magic. I slam my computer shut feeling bummed. I push it across the desk, laying my head down on the desk in defeat. I think to myself, " none of this makes sense". I hear a light knock on the door and see Cate and smile. She cracked open the door handing me a cup of tea, "take a break you've been staring at your computer all day, Maybe you should go to your art studio I haven't seen you there in months it feels like". I sigh pushing my chair back, leaning back as I stir the tea bag around my mug. I take a sip of my tea but within seconds I feel my taste buds screaming "shit that's hot... God...damnit Cate. I put my mug down on my desk laughing feeling the sadness of feeling alone coming to the surface. I l pick my cup up again taking out the tea bag, setting it onto a plate along with my spoon. I blow on my mug and take a sip of my tea "your right, thank you Cate". I stand up and walk into my art gallery hesitantly, I haven't had the want to even enjoy hobbies lately.
I look around my gallery seeing art and art tools as I sigh, looking up at the ceiling. I suddenly was hit with inspiration from the bare canvas I had painted the walls of this room some but the ceiling had nothing. I backed up in aww and tripped on some supplies and fell backwards. In a painful groan I prop myself up as I smile. I have inspiration to paint something. My eyes twinkle with delight, it truly has been forever. I jump up and run out of the room gliding through the door and into the garage. I grabbed a ladder racing through the house and back into my gallery. I began painting in wide strokes with bright colors like a beautiful sunrise. I paint the colors with the emotions I've been holding in for years now. After hours of painting I end with beautiful scenery and a mess of paint on my brushes in my pallet and smeared on my clothes.
I felt better after spending time in my gallery and I finally felt I had enough energy to go practice my witch abilities. I walk into the living room seeing Cates keys gone and sigh in relief. I still wasn't ready to tell her about all of this. I grab my keys and walk out the door locking it before I get in my car. I turn on the radio and pull out the driveway and begin to zone out. Before I knew it I was at an abandoned warehouse putting my car into the park. I entered the warehouse through the back door and began preforming defensive and offensive spells I have been reading about for days. Suddenly I felt it...the witch took control before I could even react. Sadly the takeovers have become more frequent and longer.
She ended up leaving and driving to a museum. I ask her the reason we are here. all I hear from her is a menacing cackle. I try to fight her but I know my efforts are futile. As I watch from the inside out I see her short circuits the security system with my electricity power. I groan remembering if I can use her powers she can use mine. after getting into the museum and sneaking past security I see her staring at an ancient gem in display. She sneaks her way into the display beginning to take out the gem ready to replace it with a fake. Suddenly someone flips her across the room. It was Cate... I got excited knowing she was here to stop the witch. Then I realized...shit...Catherine. I panic knowing I'm in a black outfit and mask but she could still easily know it was me if she got close enough.
I tell the witch she can't find out who we are and we need to leave but she ignores me starting to fight with Cate.
I think about Cates power knowing that she is strong because she was the leader of the royal army at one time. I have know her my whole life and even I don't know much about her powers. besides physical strength I knew she had the powers to warp reality and make things seem as they are not. I knew she had the power of misdirection but the actual details of her ability are unknown to most. The only thing I really know is that she is way stronger than she ever lets people perceive, she is really smart and I know her spirit animal is a fox. When we were just about to leave the island and she got overwhelmed about leaving the strong emotions made her spirit animal appear while we were together in her room.
As her and the witch faught back and forth I smile seeing Cate fight, I hardly ever get to see her trickery this close up. it's been since our highschool years when we used to spar together for practice. She used her misdirection on the witch and it really seemed to mess with the witches mind. suddenly Cate turned invisible and the witch moved around on edge as she was being attacked by Cate. The witch chanted a smell making a powder and threw it on Cate. The witch punched her in the rib. Cate growled as she made clones of herself appear around the witch surrounding her.
Eventually the witch zaps Cate with my lighting by sending a bolt of lightning in all directions and Cate ends up tackling her after blood runs out of Cate's nose. Cate whispers "electricity"?, in a confused and curious way. Cate looks at me through the witches eyes and I gasp.
She looks down at my suit and my mask and my figure and into my eyes and looks down at me confused, starting to recognize me. She starts taking my mask off but the witch casts a spell and a shadow of smoke surrounded us. As Cate sees the witch vanish in the thick smoke the witch kicks Cate off and runs off and back to the car letting me take back control. I sigh in discontent and drive home hoping to make it before Cate.
