Chapter 6: Talent

~~~
"The music room?" He stood there confused.
She looked at him shyly. "I have a secret"
There was an air of silence.
She breathed in and exclaimed "I have a talent."
He looked at her in confusion. That was her secret? It wasn't a big one. He was going to ask her a question but the look on her face was full of nervousness.
They had stood there for a few seconds until the air grew silent.
"Eehmm" she cleared her throat.
She opened the door and inside was a grand piano. The room was somewhat dusty as no one had been there for a few weeks. She walked over to the piano and opened the lid. She wiped off the seat and ran her finger across the keys begging to play a song.
Su LingTian stood there and was shocked. The song she was playing was by the artist Xu Qiao. The song was called Summers Night. It was one of her more mature songs, Li Hua didn't seem like the type to enjoy this music.
"Some days I feel like I can see you here"
"Like your right here with a hand ready to wipe my tear"
"If I could reach you would you hear me"
"Or would my words be lost to eternity"
Never had he thought she would start singing. Her voice was soft and delicate like her appearance. The way she sang felt so sincere and genuine.
Lost in thought he absentmindedly walked over and sat down next to her. Alongside her, he started playing the piano. The part she played was high while his was deep. The melodies began to sync and harmonize. Suddenly he began singing.
" I long for you some days but I wonder why I try"
"My efforts would only cause me to lose you by my side"
"If it were easy would you ever choose me"
"Or is your shadow the only thing that I'll see"
It was time for the chorus. There voices mixed together like a good drink. His low tone was as rich as the honey and hers as sweet as the tea.
"We seem to be a thousand worlds apart"
"But you're with me in my heart"
"I wish our love could be as endless"
"As these countless summer nights"
"Oh won't you hold me tight"
He stared at Li Hua deep into her eyes as he sang the last the line.
"You shine brighter than any grand stars light"
The sound that once filled the room stopped. It was dead silent. They hadn't broke their gaze at each other. Suddenly Su LingTian leaned in toward her. Li Hua knew what was coming but wasn't nervous. She closed her eyes and waited. However, the moment never came.
She opened her eyes to see Su LingTian had backed away and started to stand up. Realizing the situation she quickly closed the piano and grabbed her bag. She looked at him one last time before she ran out the room.
BANG.
Su LingTian stood in the room alone. He stared at the seat and clenched his fist. What had almost just happened....he cursed at himself. She was right there. A few more seconds and they would've....
He sat on the floor and ran his hand through his hair.
"What an idiot."
~~~

Li Hua ran out the room to an empty hallway. How could she have been so stupid. Of course he wasn't going to kiss her. Why would he kiss her of all people? She was always the last choice. Why would this be different.

Memories began to flood her mind.

A few years ago, Li Yan was supposed to learn the piano from a private instructor. After a few lessons, Li Yan had gotten frustrated and quit. Their dad had bought a whole piano and now it would go to waste unused. They pleaded with her to continue but she refused.

One day, Li Hua had wondered around the house and found the piano. It had been stored away in one of the spare rooms and long forgotten. It was so big and grand and it amazed her. She touched a few keys and the room filled with all sorts of tunes.

Suddenly, her mind began to wander and she continued to play the keys.

She went to her father and asked if she could learn piano instead of Li Yan. Feng Yu overheard and scoffed "Why would you want to learn. We spent a ton of money on that piano, you'd only ruin it." Hearing this, Li Zhang agreed. "There are better things to waste time on then that. Go and play with some toys."

This wasn't the first time that she had been turned down but for some reason this had hurt more then any other. She wanted to ask "Why could Li Yan use the piano and not she. Wouldn't someone who appreciated be more deserving." However, under their gazes she kept it to herself.

Like all children the more you tell them to stay away the more they'll want to do it. Whenever the others were occupied, she would sneak down to the room and play. It had become her little secret.

One day Xua Rong caught her. Li Hua pleaded with her to not tell and after some consideration she agreed. From there on Xua Rong would sneak some books for her to learn from. Without a skilled teacher, it was difficult but eventually she grasped it.

Music became her outlet. It may have been small to others but to her it was everything. Whenever she was sad or upset she would play a song and feel better. She had spent he whole life being belittled and she was tired of it.

This was the one thing she was good at, the one thing Li Yan didn't have. It was her secret pleasure and only Xua Rong knew of it. He was the second to know and once again she found herself miserable.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
IrrelevantMe IrrelevantMe

Fun fact. I wrote that song on the spot ? I just rhymed some words together to make it sound deep. Also Xu Qiao is the artist from my previous story Her Dream (unfinished). I thought it would be nice as they both singers have the same purpose
