Chapter 118: Book 2: Chapter 44

I woke up seeing an unfamiliar, white ceiling later. Moving my eyes to the surroundings next, I realized I was on a hospital bed. I raised my arm and an IV tubing dangled, drawing my eyes into the IV site in my hand. I did not know how long did I doze off, but the ache in my back told me I had knocked out for a long while already.

I snapped when I recalled the reason I was here. I pulled myself to a sitting position, trying to assess my condition. A minute passed and I did not feel any lightheadedness, so I assumed I could now go down and walk. Before my feet could land on the floor, the door opened and a lady in a blue scrub suit entered.

"Mrs. Grey, good morning!" she greeted with a twinkle in her eyes and a broad smile on her triangular face. "I am nurse Jera, a private duty nurse assigned to you by your husband."

"My husband?" I furrowed my brows, wondering if Sean came in and brought me here.

"Yes, your husband. He came here with someone named Mina but the old lady has some errands to do at home, so they sent me here to accompany you."

"Where's Sean now?"

"Pardon, Mrs. Grey? Who is Sean?" she asked, squinting her eyes in apparent confusion.

"You said my husband took me here. His name is Sean Grey."

She furrowed her brows further and got lost in her thoughts for a while. Shifting her gaze at me later on, she then voiced out her confusion.

"His name is not Sean, but Ian. And he even introduced himself as Mr. Ian of Riddance Corporation."

I froze for a moment wondering why Ian came into the picture. He didn't even show up at the meeting. But this nurse was not lying. It was apparent that she didn't know me, nor her current employer.

"How does he look like?" My world seemed to stop spinning for a while, eagerly waiting for her reply.

She opened her mouth like she was about to say something, but then shook her head as if she was not sure of what was right to say.

"All I can say is that she's tall and handsome," she said, a smile breaking on her face.

"My husband is indeed tall and handsome, but I am not sure of this Mr. Ian."

"By the way, Mrs. Grey, take your breakfast so that you can also take your medications."

She turned her back on me and walked forward to an overbed table at the corner of the room beside a refrigerator. It was then that I noticed a bouquet of red roses on top.

"By the way, Mrs. Grey, someone sent you these flowers," she said, reaching for the bouquet on top with both of her hands.

She placed it on top of the overbed table then wheeled it to me. Once it laid before me, I looked for the card to know where this bouquet came from. And to my surprise, the signature was not legible, but I could still figure out the name "Ian" on it.

Dr. Red, get well soon, and don't stress out so much. The baby needs you. Ian.

Tears stung my eyes as I recalled the possibility of a miscarriage. And I also wondered if Sean knew about what happened. But since he was constantly communicating with Atty. Evarez, I wouldn't believe he didn't.

If Ian of Riddance Corporation could come and send me flowers, why not him? And this thought was enough to hurt me, again.

"Miss Jera, when is the doctor coming? I want to know the status of my baby."

"The doctor came here a while ago, Mrs. Grey, but you were still asleep. She said the baby is fine, but you need to have a complete bed rest."

The nurse then placed two trays of food on the overbed table together with a set of cutleries. She removed the bouquet and placed it on the center table by the sitting area to create a wider space.

The aroma of roasted chicken, steamed fish, some veggies, broth, and side dishes made my stomach churn. I took time to chew and enjoy the food and my palate welcomed every bite graciously.

"Miss Jerah, is this how the dietary department usually provides the food here?" I worked in a hospital for years and I knew that any hospital wouldn't serve as generously as this meal before me.

"No, but they serve according to the request of Mr. Ian. And here's your tea," Jera explained and then showed me the steaming teapot she was working on while I was eating.

"It's not safe for me," I said as the bitter aroma of herbs wafted through my nostrils.

Jera seemed to be not listening because she still placed a cup before me after dishing out the set on the overbed table.

"Here, look," she said, handing me a note.

I accepted the scented sheet, and my brows immediately gathered at its message.

"Dr. Grey, drink this tea. This might be good for you. I bought some of it from Mr. Sean after he mentioned that it cured him of the Bronca bite. I got it from his mom when his friend packed some dried leaves and sent it for her a few months ago."

"Miss Jerah, did Nay Mina bring my purse?"

Jerah nodded after my voice startled her. I caught her staring at me while I read the message.

"Here," she said, handing me my bag. Then, she turned away and proceeded in cleaning up the food tray.

I pulled out my phone and immediately searched for Atty. Evarez's number in my contact list. He immediately picked up, though.

"Dr. Grey, how are you?"

"Atty. Evarez, can you tell me what happened?"

"You fainted, and as I understood it, you had some bleeding. Mr. Ian came to talk to you and when he saw what happened, he immediately picked you up in his arms and rushed you to the hospital."

So, this Mr. Ian was not totally bad. Maybe he had some cruel side if his wishes were not granted, but he still had some compassion in his heart. Or, maybe, he just showed his good side so that I would agree on selling to him half of my share. But what if I wouldn't? Would he kill me just as how he warned Eric?
