Chapter 95: Book 2: Chapter 21

"Haze?"

"Dr. Red!"

"What's up?" I asked. Though I liked her from the start, I never gave her the chance to break the gap between a doctor and a nurse.

"Doc Red, guess what?" Her enthusiasm brought me a frown because I was never in the mood to indulge in a guessing game.

"I'm sorry, Haze, but can you just please state your purpose?"

She was silent for a moment, maybe surprised at my sarcastic tone.

"Ah, Doc Red, I'm here at the lobby of Palazzo Verde."

I stared at the receiver, pulling my brows together. Did Sean send her over here?

"What are-" I started to question her unexpected appearance, but then I decided to meet her, "ah, Haze, just please wait for me there in the lobby."

"Okay, doc."

In less than five minutes, I already saw her waving her hand at me as soon as I stepped out of the elevator. I also smiled back, knowing that she didn't deserve my rudeness. What happened was between Sean and me only, and how I reacted to the emotional trauma should not affect the people around us.

Sitting across me on the table I picked for the two of us at the hotel's coffee shop; she began to look agitated. She couldn't stay in one position, drawing a slow breath to calm herself down. She may have forgotten that as a doctor, I have a pair of clinical eyes.

"What brings you here?" I smiled, breaking the silence first.

"Mr. Martela made a scene at Laminae."

"What did Eric do?" I snapped. My heartbeats began to race as I looked back at what happened to Sean and I a few days ago.

"He demanded to see Dr. Mimi because of an incident that he said had happened to Mr. Grey and President Abella."

I was right, after all. President Abella had no doubt informed Calla about what happened to us at the airport. And Eric must have been worried at how I reacted to the bomb the president threw at me. This was something unusual, but if Eric was true to what he showed lately, then maybe he was truly sad for me.

"And?"

"He demanded to let Mr. Grey send one of us to accompany you since you are pregnant. He's afraid you're depressed and that it might harm the baby."

Things were getting more confusing. Eric hated the president, but I saw that he had made negotiations with him just to send Hazel over. Hazel was Sean's employee this time, and that he had the final say whether or not she should send her to assist me.

"He doesn't have to send you. I'm going home anyway."

"Perhaps he thought you would still want to stay and explore Australia."

I scoffed and patted Hazel's shoulder. "I would have loved to do that with Sean, but…"

"I understand," she replied, looking at me with her dimmed eyes.

The attendant came over with our orders, and the aroma of the coffee finally stimulated my hunger receptors. I took a sip of my decaffeinated coffee, pairing it first with a slice of the poached egg.

"Haze, I wonder how much do you know about what had happened between Sean and the president," I said, casting my eyes on her.

Hazel swallowed everything in her mouth before she opened her mouth to speak. "Sir Eric told me everything I need to know so that I would know how to deal with your depression."

I finally brought myself to laugh. I just couldn't believe Eric would go to such an extent. When I was by his side, all he did was hurting my feelings. Maybe, Eric is romantic after all to the ones he loves. And because he did not love me, I shouldn't have expected his soft side.

"Haze, I remembered that you were hiding from Eric. You even said you ran away from his company."

Hazel burst into a scornful laugh. "Sir Eric has his ways to know whatever he desires. He did not choose me, but Dr. Mimi refused to come over because of an illness. All other doctors in Laminae are also not available, so the team decided to send me."

"How did Sean reacted?"

"He just talked to me over the phone, then met me here earlier." Hazel continued to gobble her food, not realizing the impact of her information on my emotion.

"Sean is here?"

"Of course, as expected. He's keeping eyes on you."

I looked away as another wave of pain hit me. Until that moment, I still could not accept that Sean was not the kind of person I had known from the start.

"Sadly, he couldn't get away from the spell of that wicked woman. I even think she possesses the power of our ancestors to attract whatever man she likes."

"Ha?" I raised both my brows in a confused look.

"Black power."

Hazel might be just superstitious, but I remembered my nanny telling me that some people used some kind of black power to attract men. But since I saw no scientific basis supporting the belief, I did not believe it.

"Why are you saying that?"

"Because Mr. Grey can't resist every time Miss Calla seduces him. I know he loves you, but…"

"You would help me move on, Haze, if you are going to tell me the truth." It wasn't a lie. I need to be hurt all over again to enable me to hate Sean forever. Because no matter how shattered I was, if I would see him again at this moment, I swear I would run and smooch on his chest again.

Hazel held her gaze at me, wondering if I was indeed telling the truth. Then, she pulled a deep breath before dropping another bomb.

"I watched them many times making love in the office, Doc Red. I even wondered one time if Miss Calla is still able to wear her undies."

My mouth hung open as I tried to read her mind beneath her words. Were they sneaking in the office?

"Mr. Grey's mind was perhaps so full of lust that he forgot he had someone installed a CCTV connecting his office and our clinic."

My heart dropped in shame as I figured out how much Dr. Mimi and the rest pitied for me every time they watched them in heated sex.

"Doc Red, I was hesitant to tell you this, but I guess it's time for you to know the truth."

I closed my eyes and nodded. "Drop all the bombs at once and kill my heart completely, Haze."

Downing all the contents of her cup, she wiped her mouth before she spoke.

"Mr. Grey doesn't love you at first. Maybe, he learns it after spending a long time with you. Your wealth was his priority."
