Si Xia took a deep breath and began to sing.
Huo Zenghai let out a deep breath and his eyes roamed around the auditorium, in search of his dance teacher.
In the process, Zenghai's eyes met Hua's. She was looking at him with a surprised anticipation on her face. Her face also had a hint of excitement.
At that moment, Huo Zenghai completely forgot everything around him. Only he and Xi Hua existed. He slowly moved his hands and started dancing.
Yu Chen was sitting at the edge of her seat as the music continued.
She was biting her nails as Zenghai continued to dance. He had fortunately not made any mistake yet. While looking at the stage, Chen's eyes roamed to the corner of the stage.
She forgot to breathe as her eyes froze on Si Xia. His eyes were closed and he really seemed to be lost in the song.
Chen looked at his silhouette and the world disappeared from around her. She had just realised something, Xia was truly passionate about singing.
His voice was on par with the singer that had sung before him, though he had never had any official training.
The two girls in the auditorium were mesmerised by their partners as the song continued.
The song Yu Chen had chosen was an upbeat song. It's lyrics took it's listeners through the high school romance of a young couple.
It was the perfect song for Zenghai and Hua, as it showed that life wasn't always a bed of roses, but true love perseveres and makes it through thick and thin.
And the icing on the cake was Si Xia's voice, which was so beautiful that it seemed like he was actually reciting something engraved on his heart, and not a song written by someone else.
The song continued and Huo Zenghai, matching every step perfectly to the beat, descended the stairs and walked over to Xi Hua.
His legs were still moving to the beat as he offered Hua his hand and led her to the stage.
The song ended just as Hua and Zenghai climbed on the stage.
Si Xia stopped and there was pin drop silence in the whole auditorium.
Then suddenly, as though coming out of a trance, everyone in the auditorium started hooting and clapping and cheering.
Xia opened his eyes and slowly looked in the direction Yu Chen was sitting.
Chen had not been able to take her eyes off Xia's face ever since he had started singing.
So naturally she saw Xia looking in her direction, and though she was sure he couldn't see her, she let out a huge smile.
Meanwhile, on the stage, Hua Zenghai took a few seconds to catch his breath before gesturing for a mic.
Once he was able to speak without wheezing, Zenghai said, "Hua, people say that you can't love someone else until you love yourself first. I say, bull s*it!!"
Everyone chuckled including Xi Hua. Zenghai continued, "Because I never loved myself. I hated myself, nothing but a stupid nerd that never really was accepted anywhere. I wanted to be popular, maybe a jock, I don't know.
But then I saw you. You were the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. But clearly you didn't think so. You didn't think you were stunningly beautiful, which you are, by the way. But you still seemed so comfortable in your own skin and perfectly happy with who you were."
