Chapter 320: I'll come back to you, always
Yu Chen was busy setting the table and Xi Hua had just come out of the bathroom when the doorbell rang.
Xi Hua opened it and greeted Xia awkwardly, "Hey Xia. Come in." she said and Si Xia walked in to see Yu Chen walking out of the kitchen, wiping her hands on a towel.
"Hii." Si Xia said.
"Hello." Yu Chen replied.
The two were silent for a moment before Xia handed her the purse, saying, "Here."
Yu Chen took it and said, "Thanks." "We were just going to have dinner. Do you want to join us?"
Si Xia hesitated for a moment before nodding. Yu Chen served the dinner as Hua and Xia sat down. "Sit with us Chen." Xi Hua said, seeing that she had set the table only for two people.
Yu Chen shook her head, "Actually.... I'm going to give Oreo his medicine and make sure he eats properly. You guys start, I'll join you shortly."
She said and headed out. By the time Hua and Xia had finished dinner, Yu Chen had personally fed Oreo and made sure he was warm and comfortable, wrapped in a blanket.
Chen handed him to Si Xia, and he whined and seemed reluctant to leave Yu Chen.
Chen touched Oreo's forehead to her's, and muttered, "Don't be sad. Be a good boy and eat properly, okay?"
Oreo whined some more and licked Chen's face. Yu Chen giggled and then turned to Si Xia, "The vet gave him some shots and I fed him medicine. Oreo will be fine as long as he eats properly."
"Okay?" Si Xia said as he took Oreo in his arms. Chen gave Oreo a smile who gave up trying to jump back in her arms and settled down in Xia's arms.
"Do visit." Si Xia said and Yu Chen looked up at his face, surprised. "What?" she asked.
"Umm....I meant do visit Oreo.....He.....he really misses....you." Xia fumbled for words.
Yu Chen nodded, a ghost of a smile on her lips, "Sure."
She then saw Xia to the door.
"Chen?" Si Xia turned just as Yu Chen was about to shut the door.
"Yeah?" she asked.
"I'll wait for you forever." he said in a small voice.
Yu Chen smiled bitterly and nodded before closing the door.
Si Xia, standing in the hallway, felt physical pain in his heart. Had Yu Chen really given up on him? Did she really not feel anything now?
Xia wondered to himself as tears threatened to fall from his eyes and he clutched Oreo closer.
Oreo yelped and tried to free himself, Xia's hold on him being too tight.
Si Xia frowned and loosened his hold on Oreo as his eyes caught sight of something under Oreo's collar.
He reached and stroked Oreo's head before pulling out a folded piece of paper stuck between the straps of his collar.
He opened the paper and tears actually began to flow from his eyes. Oreo let out a low bark and nuzzed his chest. Si Xia smiled, wiped his tears and folded the paper. "Your mommy really does love me more than I deserve." he muttered before slipping the paper in his pocket and walking out.
On the small piece of paper, Yu Chen had drawn two hands holding each other to the baat if her ability and had written the words, "I'll come back to you, always."
