Chapter 313: My heart will be with him, whatever happens
Sam: "You might love him with all your heart, but what about him? I mean, you guys were together for what? No time really. You had one date and that too with no real commitment. And since then you've been here for two years."
"What are you trying to say?" Yu Chen said through gritted teeth.
Sam turned his head to look at her, "I'm not trying to anger you. And if I am, I'll stop."
Chen took a few deep breaths and said, "It's all right. You're just expressing your point of view. I'll keep that in mind."
Sam: "Yeah. So like I was saying. You might love him with all your heart, but you guys barely know each other. And you, boys are fickle, I ought to know that."
Yu Chen was silent for some time before she said, "So you think he is cheating on me?"
Sam shook his head, "Not really. And you can't take my opinion to be objective. I'm too involved to have a neutral opinion. All I'm trying to say is.....Take care, don't get so emotionally invested that you're not able to get out, even if you someday need to."
Sam had expected Chen to burst out at him in anger, but she didn't. Instead, she turned silent, deep in thought.
Once she looked up, Chen said something that Sam would never have expected.
She said, "Since you've been honest with me, can I be honest with you too?"
Sam was a bit taken aback. He was all smiles as he replied, "Yeah. Sure. Of course."
Chen bit her lip, contemplating. Finally she sighed, "This is gonna sound quite weird. But you know, sometimes I'm scared of how much I love Xia."
"Huh? What do you mean?" Sam asked.
Chen looked at the sky, her expression unreadable, "You know, right now, you kind of touched a nerve. I know we've known each other only for very little time, and there's no real commitment between us. And that's why...."
"Why?...." Sam urged on.
"I'm scared that one day I'll do something unreasonable due to my love for him." Yu Chen sighed.
Sam frowned, "What do you mean?"
Yu Chen looked at him, her eyes clearly seeing something he could not, "I'm scared Sam. I'm scared about what I'll do if he one day decides to leave me. I'm afraid that I'll either cling to him or run away. Breaking myself beyond repair."
"You don't need to go through that you know." Sam muttered in a small voice.
Yu Chen tilted her head with a frown, "Huh?"
Sam grabbed her shoulders and said, "You don't need to suffer due to that bone deep love. You can try to be with someone who is compatible with you. Someone being with whom is as easy as breathing."
Yu Chen wriggled out of Sam's hands and sighed, "You really don't get it, do you?"
It was now Sam's turn to frown.
Chen continued, hugging her knees, "I can try all I want to stay away from Si Xia. I can turn back time as many times I want and decide not to love him. But no matter what, I'll always fall in love with him. My heart will be with him whatever happens, no matter what he decides to do with it." she sighed, stroking the butterfly clips in her hair.
