Yu Chen kept all the things that had piled on her lap on the bedside table as she lied down.
She felt unusually light.
It felt nice to have things off her chest, but moreover she was proud of herself for how she had handled things. Some people might think it was not right, but this was the best she could do. She had tried to talk to Xia, chase after him to the point it had turned pathetic. Of course she could not keep doing that.
They would have their talk now and everything would be all right now, hopefully.
"But what will you do if he does choose Chang?" the negative voice in her brain spoke out.
Yu Chen thought back to before she had done the jump. She remembered those seven years. "Obviously it'll be great if he chooses me. But if he doesn't, well, there's nothing else I can do other than keep on living. Of course that'll be more like waiting for death than living, only an empty shell. But.... I have a lot of practice." Chen muttered to herself as she pulled up her blanket and closed her eyes.
Si Xia sat in Mo Kio's hospital room with his head in his hands.
He felt like his head would burst with all those voices. He remembered Sam's story, the photos, Chen's words. It really did look like Chen would be smothered by her love for him, but more than that, a sentence in Chen's own voice swam in his mind, "I don't love you anymore."
Xia sighed as he looked up at Kio's pale and thin face. "I'm sorry Kio. I didn't fulfill my promise. I didn't take good care of Chen. But what am I going to do.....?" Si Xia mumbled to himself as he hung his head, his mind a complete mess of emotions.
Yu Chen woke up just as the sun was setting. The sky outside her room window was orange as she sat up, rubbing her eyes.
"You up? Did you sleep well?" Xi Hua's voice came from her bedside.
Yu Chen turned her head to look at Hua. By her disheveled hair and face, it was clear that she had woken up just a few minutes ago.
Chen chuckled, "What about you?"
Hua smiled, "I had a good enough sleep considering I was on a couch. How are you feeling?"
Chen's stomach growled before she has a chance to answer. Yu Chen let out a guilty smile, "Hungry."
Xi Hua shook her head, "Me too. I'll go get something. Eat these apples you peeled, they'll go bad kept here like that."
Yu Chen stared at the slices of apple Si Xia had cut as she nodded. Xi Hua walked out of her room just as Chen picked up a slice.
A few days later.....
Yu Chen yawned as she wrapped the blanket more tightly over herself.
She was lying on the couch in the living room in Hua's apartment, wrapped in a blanket, watching anime.
Yu Chen had been discharged just two days ago, and Hua was taking care of her like she was a little baby, honestly, it was a bit annoying. Chen stiffled another yawn when suddenly the doorbell rang. Yu Chen sat up, frowning.
