Xi Hua left and the doctor soon came.
After what seemed to Chen like endless tests, he finally declared that she was well enough to be taken off liquid nutrition, but would have to stay at the hospital for a day or two, so that they could monitor her condition.
Yu Chen was unbelievably relieved when all those awful needles were removed from her arms and she was shifted to a room in the recovery ward. Her new room had less of the hospital equipments and the smell of medicine, which always made Chen feel like she would puke.
But this all took some time, so Yu Chen was just starting with her breakfast of congee and soup when Xi Hua entered, now in casual clothes.
"You finished your shift?" Chen asked.
Xi Hua nodded and slumped onto a chair. She said as she massaged her head, "Yeah."
Yu Chen felt guilty seeing Hua like that. It was because of her that Xi Hua was so tired. She had been worried about her on top of doing the already taxing job of a nurse.
"Hua? Why don't you go home and get a few hours of sleep? There are so many people here. I'll be fine." Yu Chen persuaded her.
Xi Hua scoffed, "What kind of a friend do you think I am? Of course I'll not leave you here alone."
"But I'll be fine." Chen said in a small voice.
Xi Hua shook her head, "Don't worry. I won't push myself. I'm going home right now. I'll have a shower and maybe some breakfast. Then I can come back here and maybe crash on the sofa."
Yu Chen began, "Get some sleep at...."
Xi Hua put up a finger to silence Chen and said, "You're not the only one who can be stubborn. Now eat your breakfast and be a good girl."
Yu Chen pouted upon hearing this as she stuffed her mouth with a spoonful of congee.
Xi Hua returned an hour later to see Chen sitting and reading a book.
She put down a basket of fruits she had brought as she asked, "Where did you get the book?"
Yu Chen said as she closed the book, "I got it from the nice nurse that came to take my breakfast tray. It's not that interesting, but it's a way to pass time."
Xi Hua replied as she dropped the bag she was carrying into Chen's lap, "You don't need to read books you don't like anymore. I got your toy."
Chen tilted her head as she opened the bag. Her eyes sparkled upon seeing the contents.
"You brought my laptop!!!!!" Yu Chen exclaimed as she pulled out the laptop Mo Kio had gifted her years ago from the bag.
Hua shrugged as she slumped into a chair, "I had trouble deciding which one to bring. Why do you have two laptops anyway?"
Yu Chen chuckled, "Cause I'm very rich."
Her face then turned serious as she placed the laptop on her lap and fumbled with her hands.
"Just ask whatever you're wondering about." Xi Hua waved her hand and said in a non-chalant tone.
Yu Chen took a deep breath and asked, "What happened after I fainted?"
