Yu Chen walked out after a few minutes.
Seemed like the time with Oreo had done her good too. Her tears had stopped falling, though her cheeks were still wet.
"He's eating. He'll be fine. For today at least." Chen said as she came out of the kitchen and went to the dining room window.
Xi Hua and Huo Zenghai stood there, wondering what she was doing now.
Chen opened the window and then turned around saying, "Come on. Let's go home."
Xi Hua walked forward and put an arm around her shoulders, "Why the window?" She asked.
"Oreo shouldn't have to be shut up in the house. He'll at least be able to go into the yard." Yu Chen replied with a melancholy smile as she called out a little louder, "Oreo. We are leaving."
Chen's voice sounded hoarse. Like she was pushing it too far.
Oreo's whine came from the kitchen, and the next second he came out.
Chen patted his small head and then hugged him, saying, "Go eat. Don't worry."
And then the three of the them walked out and went to Xi Hua's apartment.
Once in, Hua wrapped a thick blanket around Chen and Zenghai made her a coffee to warm her up.
Yu Chen, who had been silent the whole ride, forced out a smile, "Thank you guys. So sorry for causing you trouble."
"Shut up. This is what happens when you don't listen to me." Hua snapped as she went into the kitchen.
Yu Chen giggled as her eyes met Zenghai's, "Seems like I am not the mother hen anymore."
Zenghai also forced out a smile and said, "I'll see what has got Hua all riled up."
Chen nodded as he headed towards the kitchen.
Just as he was out of sight, Chen's smile vanished. She sat with the cup in her hands, staring out of the window.
Huo Zenghai walked in the kitchen to see Xi Hua leaning on the counter. He walked upto her and was surprised to see her in tears.
"Hua? What's wrong?" Zenghai was immediately worried.
Xi Hua said as her voice cracked, "She's..... She's trying way too hard."
Zenghai hugged her from behind, "For our sakes."
"She shouldn't have to. Chen is the best one of us. She deserves the best." Hua said.
Zenghai was deep in thought, "That she does. Hua, are you sure Xia was in the car with a woman?"
Xi Hua nodded, "Positive."
Zenghai: "Hmm..... Seeing the timing..."
"Chen would have met the woman." Hua finished.
"I wonder who she was? What was she doing in Xia's house? What happened?" Zenghai mused.
Hua replied, "The only ones who can tell are Chen, Xia and that woman."
Huo Zenghai went silent upon hearing this.
"What are you doing Xia? What happened that you are doing this?" He wondered to himself as he hugged Xi Hua tighter.
A few minutes later, the two walked into the living room to see Chen sitting on the sofa, cup of coffee in hand, staring out of the window.
Xi Hua walked over and stroked her head, "Eat something."
Yu Chen looked at her, "Eat? I don't think I can. I'm just...not hungry."
Xi Hua's face turned stern, "You've not eaten anything since lunch yesterday. Come on."
Saying this she began pulling on Chen's hand.
