Chapter 244: What's wrong with Sam?
Si Xia sighed and started the car. He stopped it in front of the hotel where Sam was staying.
Yu Chen leaned over and pecked him on the cheek, saying, "Don't worry okay? I'll be fine."
Si Xia wrapped his arms around her and said, "Call me when you get back. Hmm?"
Chen smiled and climbed out of the car.
She went to the reception and found out that Sam was in.
Yu Chen knocked on his door. Hearing no answer for a long time, she turned the doorknob. It opened. "I'm coming in." Yu Chen said as she stepped in.
Her first thought upon going inside the room was that there was a fire. The whole room was filled with smoke that sent her coughing right away. By the time Yu Chen had recovered and was going to raise the alarm, she caught the smell of the smoke and scrunched up her nose.
The whole room was filled with smoke, but not the smoke that came from fire, one that was emitted from cigarettes. Chen put a hand on her nose and walked in. She found Sam sprawled around the sofa, a cigarette dangling from his mouth and numerous cigarette butts scattered around him.
"Sam? SAM!?!?" Yu Chen yelled. This seemed to break his trance as he blinked and looked around, "Chen? Is that really you? Am I dreaming?"
Yu Chen slapped her forehead, "What the f*ck? Are you high? Of course it's me. What the hell are you doing?"
As she said this, Yu Chen opened all the windows she could find to let the smoke out.
She finally came back to Sam Darcy, who was crushing his unfinished one in an ash-tray.
"How many did you smoke?" Chen asked, still covering her nose as she sat down opposite him.
"Oh not too many." Sam said as he got up and rummaged around for something. He finally found what he was looking for. It was a room freshner, he sprayed it all around and then sat back down.
Yu Chen pinched the area between her eyebrows, "How could you do that Sam? After all you went through to quit."
Seven years ago, when Yu Chen had gone to London, she had found out that Sam was somewhat of a chain smoker. She had been horrified and had refused to even be near him if he smelled of smoke. Sam had then promised, and had gradually given up smoking.
Sam smiled bitterly, "Seems like you can stand the smell now. Does Si Xia also smoke?"
Yu Chen glared at him before saying, "I can't stand it. I'm on the verge of puking. And no, if he someday started smoking, I'll make sure to break his legs."
Sam chuckled as he leaned back on the sofa, murmuring, "Of course he doesn't smoke."
Yu Chen seemed worried as she spoke, "You seemed fine when you called me in the morning. Don't tell me you smoked all these in that short a time!?!?"
Sam shrugged. Chen narrowed her eyes, "Why?"
Sam raised an eyebrow, "Why?"
Chen: "You're not addicted anymore. Why did you smoke so many? And risk getting addicted again?"
Sam said nothing for a long time. After being pressed, he spoke, "Nerves, I guess."
