Chapter 162: Wake up. Come on man, open your eyes.
Si Xia was about to enter the room when he heard soft sobbing and stopped. He had not seen Chen cry, not even once, since the doctor had told them about Kio's condition. Si Xia had been getting a lot worried as Chen was not showing any emotions. She would talk and think like any other person, but she had stopped getting angry, smiling and even crying. This was making not only Xia, but all the others around them a little uneasy.
Though the soft sobs right now broke Xia's heart, he was relieved to see that Chen was at last letting it all out. Her small sobs soon grew into large sniffs, and Xia could see that the bedsheets near to Kio's hand was all wet. Si Xia felt like someone was squeezing his heart. He so badly wanted to rush upto Chen and hold her, but knew that she hated anyone seeing her weakness. So he stood there quietly. It was after some time that the sniffs stopped, though Xia could still see the tears falling on the bedsheet.
Then came Chen's voice, it was a small and helpless sort of voice, devoid of any emotion, hearing which made Si Xia so sad that unknown to him, tears also began to fill his eyes.
Chen was saying, "Wake up Kio. Don't be like that. Please, wake up for me. Kio. Kio. Kio!!!!"
Yu Chen laid her head down beside Kio's hand and Si Xia was pleasantly surprised to see that Chen was breathing deeply, which meant that she had fallen asleep. Si Xia quietly entered the room and looked at Chen's tear strained face. He knew that she was unbelievably exhausted and was not getting any proper sleep these days.
Si Xia then looked at Mo Kio's pale lifeless face, his bandaged head and all the machines attached to him. He said, his voice breaking, "That's enough. Come on, man. Open your eyes. Can't you see? She needs you. I need you. We all need you. I know we don't appreciate you enough for all the things you do, I know we don't say it enough, but we all love you man."
Si Xia then looked at the exhausted Chen and said, "She's leaving. For who knows how long. And this is how you wanna say goodbye. Really? Come on man, open your eyes. The Kio I knew would never make everyone worry about him like that. Wake up, just to say goodbye to Chen. Wake up."
As he finished, tears were running down Si Xia's face and he was panting. He stood there for a while, breathing heavily, expecting to see any sort of change, even the move of a single finger would have given him some hope, but Mo Kio made no response.
Si Xia sighed and looked at the girl sleeping there. He really did not want to wake her up, but she had a flight in less than three hours.
He said, in a voice that could easily melt even stones, "Chen, Chen? Come on, wake up. Time to go."
Yu Chen moved a little and mumbled, "Umm...."
Si Xia rubbed his temples. He suddenly has a bright idea.
