Chapter 158: What did I do wrong?
Yu Chen nodded her head. She said, "Let's hope that nothing fatal happened to him. Mr. driver, could you drive a little faster?"
She said to the driver who was driving at an unbelievably slow speed.
The driver said without turning around, "Sorry Miss. It's due to the snow. Although it's not much, but it's really slippery."
Yu Chen piped down upon hearing this. It was true. Though the snowfall was not very heavy tonight, the roads were slippery.
Yu Chen called Huo Zenghai and he told her that Mo Kio was in the emergency room on the second floor. Yu Chen and Si Xia rushed to the second floor as soon as they reached the hospital. At the end of the corridor, was the operation theatre, with it's light still red, which meant that the operation was going on. In front of the room, Mr. Mo was supporting a very frail looking Mrs. Mo. Huo Zenghai sat on a bench beside them with his head in his hands. Si Xia rushed upto him to get more information about the situation and Yu Chen ran off to help Mrs. Mo.
Yu Chen began to console Mrs. Mo. Mrs. Mo was unusually shaken, Yu Chen understood that it was because she had already lost one child to a road accident and could not bear to lose another.
She kep mumbling, "No. Not Kio too. Why? What did I do wrong? Anxia, us that you? Are you taking revenge on us? But why Kio? You could have taken me."
Yu Chen felt really bad for her. Mrs. Mo was really a very kind person compared to the rest of the socialists. But still these calamities seemed to fall on her one after another. Yu Chen knew that it was no use, but she continued to try and console her.
After a while, Si Xia came upto her and also tried to console Mr. and Mrs. Mo.
He motioned to Chen and the two walked upto Zenghai.
Yu Chen asked, "How did this happen?"
Huo Zenghai: "I have no idea. I only know that his bike skidded on the snow and he fell and his head smashed on the railing of the sidewalk."
Yu Chen gasped as she imagined all this. She mumbled, "But why? He's such a good person."
Huo Zenghai: "Bad luck seems to befall us now-a-days."
This sentence made Chen remember something as she said, "Does Hua know?"
Huo Zenghai shook his head. He said, "No she doesn't. She's not allowed to use phone before bedtime and does not usually watch the news on T.V."
Yu Chen nodded her head as he continued, "I went to check up on her. She was just getting ready for bed and was surprised to see me. Mrs. Xi is with her."
Yu Chen rested easy after knowing that Xi Hua had no knowledge of the subject. She was still recovering and did not need to be bothered by this.
Si Xia said in a grave voice, "But we can't hide this from her. She had to know."
Huo Zenghai: "I know. Just let her sleep peacefully for tonight. I'll tell her tomorrow."
