Chapter 99: The party (4)
After the murmur died down, the principal continued, "And I am very proud to tell you all that..... Yu Chen, the team leader, was offered the scholarship in London."
Upon hearing this, the whole hall went completely silent. None of the students even uttered a word, all eyes were fixed on Chen in a shock.
The principal broke the silence as he said, "Miss Yu has accepted the scholarship. I'm sure that all of you would also like to know how this came about to be. Miss Yu, please come forward and tell us all about it."
Yu Chen was surprised. She slowly walked to the centre of the stage and took the microphone. She looked at her teammates. Kio nodded in encouragement, Zenghai gave her a thumbs up and Hua motioned her to go on. Chen slowly began telling the story. As the story of the competition progressed, more and more people were impressed by Chen and her team. As Chen finished speaking, some of the students began saying,
One student said, "Yu Chen is such a genius...."
Student 2: "I wish I had a brain like her...."
Student 3: "Could you teach me please....."
Student 4: "She's also really cute. I would love to make her my girlfriend....."
But Chen had heard none of these comments. Her eyes were interlocked with a certain someone at the very back of the room. Si Xia, though already knew most of the story, was still amazed. He felt proud of Chen, and felt pangs of guilt for having robbed Chen of a wonderful future the previous time. His eyes were fixed on her as she also looked his way. No words were needed. At that moment, both of them could tell how much the other one loved and that they would never be able to live without each other.
Xia thought, "I'm gonna ask her to be my girlfriend as soon as I can get her alone."
Chen thought, "Damn you Xia. It turns out that I cannot live without you. No matter how many chances I get."
The principal broke their chain of thought as he said, "Now you can all choose your partners for the first dance."
The hall started buzzing with excitement as the four came down the stage. As they were walking, Kio suddenly turned around, put his hand out and bowed, "Could I have the pleasure to dance with you, my lady?"
Chen laughed as she put her hand in his, "Sure." Then she turned to look at Xi Hua and Huo Zenghai, they both looked so cute that she decided not to make things difficult for them. Chen said, "Why don't you two join us?"
They nodded and the four walked towards the dance floor. Xia walked up to them and looked Chen in the eyes. He said gently, "Dance with me?" Chen melted and was about to say yes when Kio jumped in the middle, "Sorry bro, find another partner for this one. I will take care of your princess."
Chen looked at Xia and said, "I'll dance the next dance with you."
As Chen danced with Kio and Zenghai danced with Hua, they noticed that Si Xia was standing in a corner sipping on a drink. He had been asked to dance by many girls but had rejected them all. Kio said, "Doesn't it look like he is drinking away his sorrows?"
