Chapter 81: Conference call
Chen woke up the next day to the sound of her phone ringing. She rubbed her eyes and looked who was calling. Her eyes lighted up ou seeing the caller ID. But before she could pick up, the call went dead. Yu Chen shook her head and went to the bathroom to freshen herself up. As she came out, her phone started ringing again. Chen ran to the phone and saw that it was only Zenghai this time.
She picked it up. Zenghai's voice came from the other end, "Wait a minute Chen."
Then she heard the 'ting' which meant they were on a conference call.
Yu Chen: "Why are you calling me at this ungodly hour!?!?!?"
Mo Kio: "Ungodly hour? Chen, it's 9:00 a.m. in the morning."
Xi Hua: "Oh big deal, it's not like the sky fell down. Chen, these idiots also woke me up."
Yu Chen: "What the hell was so important."
Mo Kio: "We're not going to school today."
Yu Chen: "I mean, duh. We're not."
Huo Zenghai: "But someone is forcing us to go."
Yu Chen: "Who is it? Tell me the name. I'm going to murder the person. Unless, it's one of your parents. Then I'm not going to take such a big sin on my hands."
The four had a hearty laugh. Xi Hua spoke after everyone had calmed down, "Are you sure you can live without him?"
Yu Chen: "Who?"
Huo Zenghai: "The one who is forcing us to go to school."
Mo Kio: "And the one you're going to murder."
Yu Chen: "If it's one of you, I'll be happy to."
Huo Zenghai: "Wait a minute. Let's see what you will do now." saying this, he added another person on the call.
A stern, magnetic voice came from the other end, "Hello?"
Chen felt her knees buckle. "They were talking about Si Xia?!? Oh god. How can I ever say no to him? But I really don't want to go to school today." she thought.
Huo Zenghai: "Xia? Someone has been threatening to kill you."
Si Xia: "Tell me who. I promise I will not skin the person alive."
Xi Hua: "Ooo, you're going to skin Chen alive?"
Si Xia"...."
Mo Kio: "That's harsh. Chen, be careful."
Si Xia: "...."
Yu Chen: "...."
Huo Zenghai: "Come now Chen, say something."
Yu Chen: "Ummm....."
Si Xia: "Do you want to go to school today?" His voice was so sweet and warm that Yu Chen felt like she had been engulfed in warm sunlight. (And if any of the other three could see the faces of these two at this point, they would probably puke.)
Yu Chen: "Actually...no."
Xi Hua: "We're tired."
Huo Zenghai: "We worked too hard yesterday."
Mo Kio: "We deserve a break. Specially Chen."
Si Xia seemed to be contemplating for some time, then he said, "Fine. Don't go."
Mo Kio: "So you won't call the principal to tell them we are just bunking."
Si Xia: "No. And if he asks, I'll tell that you guys had to take care of some documents."
Xi Hua: "Oh Xia, you're the best."
Huo Zenghai: "It kinda feels nice, but wrong, to turn the school's golden boy into a bad boy."
