Chapter 70: The third round
After waiting for some time, the other two teams also finished. Mr. Zhen said, "Now we will give you guys a 15 minutes break as we compile the scores."
After 15 minutes, Lu Jim spoke, "I assume that you all have already calculated the scores, so we won't take up much of your time."
Su Yan stood up and said, "The winner of this round is 'the first everywhere'. Now, the scores of the other teams are as such."
He pointed to a blog board behind him where all the teams' scores were flashing. As expected, Little Yu was in second place, with 143 points.
After a while, Su Yan spoke again, "Now for the third round, could the team leaders please come forward?"
Yu Chen, the tall boy and all the other team leaders came out of the crowd and walked towards the judges. After they were all there, the lady spoke, "In this round, you will be checking codes. Of course you will not be checking your codes but someone else's. Everyone look at the scoreboard and those who are in the same spot as the previous round may raise their hands."
Eight people raised their hands. The lady nodded her head and said, "The others may go and sit down on the computers numbered with their current ranking. And remember, if you are found checking your own code, you will be disqualified."
Everyone except the eight went to different computers. Yu Chen went to the computer no. 2 and the tall boy went to computer no. 1 beside her. She looked at him and gave a nervous smile. And to her immense surprise, he smiled back. What surprised her was not the smile, but the fact that it was genuine, not a fake, forced smile. After everyone had settled down, the lady sent the eight to each other's computers. Then she said, "Now all of you have a code in front of you that's not yours. Tear it apart. Find all the errors that you can. And each error will give you one point. Now the ones who have written the code need not to worry. No points will be taken for your errors."
Lu Jim stood up, "Now I'm pretty sure you all understand the round. You have a notepad in front of you. Do not correct the code. Just find the errors and write the line number and the error. No time limit. Find those errors. Ready? Let's go."
And everyone set to work. They began to read the codes in front of them as though their lives depended on it. Yu Chen read every line very, very carefully. She could sense the boy beside her scrutinizing her code to find errors, she hoped he would find none. Five errors, she just needed five errors. Thinking this, she read on. Even though it was not her's, she had to admit it was a very well written code. There were hardly any errors. "But I will find them. I will find five errors. I cannot let everyone down. I cannot let Xi Xi down!!!"
After Chen had read about three-fourth of the code, she had still only found one error.
"This cannot be happening!!" she thought. Then, the tall boy beside her got up. He raised his hand and said, "Done."
Chen was so curious that she wanted to go and see how many errors he had found. But she steeled herself and focused on the code in front of her.
