Chapter 56: The stakes
And she was right. The girl went on the stage and went to the judges who had begun to take their seats. Seeing Chen's lack of response, the tall boy thought she was nervous now and went to his table, which was close to the stage.
When the girl turned, Yu Chen's heart sank. She had brought the pen drive with Zuan's confession but did not want to use it. Yuan Zuan whispered something to the main judge, who then stood up and took asked for the microphone. He announced, "There seems to have been a little mix-up. Could the contestants please wait patiently while we sort it out. And could the members of team little Yu, come up on the stage?"
Just then Yuan Zuan again whispered something in the judge's ear who smiled and nodded, "All the team members are not needed. Only the team leader of the team little Yu would be sufficient."
Hearing this, Hua, Zenghai and Kio looked at Chen with a worried expression, but her face showed no emotion as she stood up and walked across the whole hall to the stage, with each and every eye on her.
Yu Chen went up and politely bowed to the main judge and all the rest of the judges and introduced herself, "I'm Yu Chen."
The main judge also bowed and said, "Miss Yu, there has been a slight mix-up, let's go backstage and discuss it."
Yuan Zuan smirked and began to walk but Yu Chen said, "Mr. Zhen, can I ask something? Could you please explain the problem here so that everyone can know what the mix-up is about."
Mr. Zhen definitely seemed taken aback. He looked at Zuan who was so shocked at Chen's words that she could not utter a word. So Mr. Zhen continued, " Okay. It's actually better. Our contestants do have a right to know." So he asked one of the staff to bring a laptop, on which he projected the listing of various teams.
It showed that there were two teams listed as little Yu. Mr. Zhen continued, "Well of course, it could have been a coincidence, but Miss Yuan here insists that you stole her team name and her code."
Yu Chen looked and saw that Yuan Zuan's devilish smirk was back. She turned to the judges but before she could say anything, Huo Zenghai stood up and started shouting, "SHE'S A LIAR. YUAN ZUAN IS A LIAR. SHE TRIED TO STEAL OUT CODE!!!"
Yu Chen smiled and said, "Thanks Zenghai, now why don't you sit down while I wrap all this up." as Xi Hua and Mo Kio pushed Huo Zenghai back into his seat.
Yuan Zuan said, "Chen, you seem to be too confident. Can you prove that I stole your team's name and not you mine."
Yu Chen: "Well of course I can. But first I want to ask Mr. Zhen this. What will happen if I am not able to prove it?"
Mr. Zhen: "Well of course we will have to punish you. It is a legal crime and you will probably be arrested. Moreover, if Miss Yuan can also not prove that you stole her team's name, the team will be disqualified."
