Chapter 22: A new friend
Si Xia did not mind. He sat down on the chair and started on his sandwiches. But Yu Chen did something no one expected. She took her ramen and got up to leave.
But was Si Xia going to give up so easily? No. He grabbed her wrist and said, "Chen, what's wrong with you? Sit with me. Please." His voice was so sweet that it could even melt a stone. Yu Chen felt an arrow as though it had been shot right in her heart. But she stayed strong.
She said, without turning as she was not sure if she could stay strong if she looked at his face. "Sorry mister. I don't know you and don't want to sit with you." She jerked out jer hand out of his hand, grabbed Xi Hua and Huo Zenghai, and left.
While leaving, Xi Hua looked back. She saw that all the people in the cafeteria were dumbstruck. She specially noticed Yuan Zuan, who was looking at them with jealousy and regret, Si Xia who was, what was that now? He was smiling!!! But was a little confused too. And finally her eyes fell on Mo Kio, kind of like an archenemy to Si Xia, who was gazing at Chen like he found her very interesting.
Xi Hua turned around and ran after Yu Chen.
After the cafeteria incident, Xi Hua had started liking Yu Chen more and more. She was really cool, no matter how many times Si Xia approached Yu Chen, she would always shoot him down, and did so very savagely.
She even stood her own when Yuan Zuan came to talk to her.
First, Yuan Zuan tried to play her 'best friends' card, saying that they were really good friends and she was sorry for whatever she had done. So Yu Chen could become friends again. But all three of them knew that all she wanted was to be introduced to Si Xia. But Yu Chen had turned her down and left with Xi Hua and Huo Zenghai.
Two weeks after the cafeteria incident, two things happened. During that time, Xi Hua, Huo Zenghai and Yu Chen had become almost inseparable. It had started like a normal day. Xi Hua and Huo Zenghai had gone to Yu Chen's apartment. They came here everyday because they knew that Chen would never make it to school on time alone. They went in, woke Chen and Xi Hua warmed the breakfast she had brought while Chen got ready. Then they had breakfast and set off for school. Halfway there, Si Xia caught up with them, and was told to go bother someone else by Yu Chen. Yes, this was the everyday routine. But soon after Si Xia left, someone called out from behind. This was the first thing.
"Hey, you three. The nerdy boy with glasses, the girl with the pigtails and the computer prodigy, wait up."
All three of them turned around to see Mo Kio on his bike. He hit the brakes and his bike came to a stop beside them. He got down, ruffled his jet black hair and flashed a smile.
