Chapter 16: A chance
Seeing him laughing like this, Ni Yeng smiled. "Even if I am playing a prank, it seems to be working. I have not seen you laugh like this since the day Miss Yu left." she said.
Hearing this, Si Xia's smile vanished. "How do you know about her. What kind of a bug have you planted on me. What do you want?" he thundered.
Ni Yeng just gave him a polite smile and continued, "We have placed no bug on you. Our company has been monitoring you for six years. Ever since our program started."
Si Xia's expression was now one of five parts shock and four parts disbelief, with one part of joy and hope mixed. He said, "Okay. Assuming that this is not an elaborate prank, you guys can send me back in time, and I can do anything to change the future."
Ni Yeng could see that he was finally giving in. "Yes you can. Come on now, let's go to per office. I will tell you all the details on the way."
As they both sat in Ni Yeng's car, Ni Yeng started explaining how he would be send to any random day five years back, and he would have two months to change his future. Ni Yeng also told him that it was not a time machine in the conventional sense but was a kind of machine that would send his consciousness back, while his body remaining here.
As Si Xia wrapped his head around all this, they had reached a big building that looked like a research centre. Ni Yeng gave him a tour of the premises and finally led him to a place with complicated machines. As she showed him the machine, she explained it's working and asked again if he was willing to test it.
She also told Xia that after completing two months in his past body, he would return to this world with new memories about what happened in the past seven years.
"Well of course, your previous memories will remain and new ones will be formed on the basis of what you do in the two months." she explained.
Si Xia: "...."
Ni Yeng: "And of course your work will have to be put on hold. So we are going to pretend that you are being treated for a disease here and your family members can come see you."
Si Xia: "You guys have really thought it all out, haven't you?"
Ni Yeng: "Of course. All you need to do is say yes and we can set you up right now."
As Si Xia began thinking, Yu Chen's crying face flashed before his eyes, the one from five years ago and then tonight. So he said, "Okay. I'm willing to do it."
Ni Yeng became really happy and said to him. "Now. Don't forget to keep a diary and write everything you do in it. It will be a great source of data for us." Si Xia nodded and was led into a room to run some tests.
Ni Yeng went and sat in a room attached to the test lab where Si Xia's body would be for the next two months. Just then the door on the other side of the room opened and a man entered. Ni Yeng smiled, "Have you convinced her?" she asked.
