Chapter 8: CHAPTER 8: SHAYLA COX
ZANDER
The party was crowded with different people, different levels but my mind was not into it. They were some girls were flirting with me. But it was weird, I was not interested any of them. I have nothing beside while my friends with girls in their arms.
Shane was one of them, saw them disappears from the party. I know where they were going not to their home. I guess to the girl's home. I left the party without a girl in my arms so I was sitting in my car and grabbed my phone.
'Hi' I send.
I waited for a reply then start the engine of my car. It never took long when my phone vibrates.
Shayla: 'Hey Finn'
I smiled to see her reply. She has been in my mind the whole time.
Zander: 'What are you doing?'
I was driving towards our streets and plan to stay at home. It was just few blocks away from the party.
Shayla: Movie marathon. Why are you texting me? Aren't you at the party?
Zander: I was, few minutes ago but I am now in my garage.
Shayla: Wow! Really? Why???
I saw the words she sends me with so many question marks on it. I know she was also curious why on earth I was not at the party or maybe she was thinking why I was not with some girl.
Zander: I do not know why but I feel not like it.
I was now in my room lying in my bed waiting for her to reply.
Shayla: Huh! That's weird! It seems not like you… just curiosity's sake. Why are you texting me?
I froze and think, 'Why am I texting her? Of all the girls, why her?' It took me a while before I replied.
Zander: idk (I don't know) you popped up in my mind when I left the party. You do not like me texting you?
Shayla: Well, it is fine with me. It just makes no sense that me of all people you find time or make some of your precious time for a girl who's younger than you. Not your average level type of person you will spare on me.
Zander: Why? What is wrong with you? I know you since you were born. We are friends even we never hang out as hang out but you are okay. Do not look down on yourself okay. You are special and different.
I went to slip off my clothes and remain my boxer short. We exchanged text for quite long. I found her interesting in every conversation we had that night.
I do not know why I got some interest in her the moment I saw her back in their house. All I want for now is her friendship, her company. We may not hang out just as with my friends at least I have a friend that I can easily share some thoughts.
It's special weekend because it is Shayla's 16th birthday. We are going to celebrate it to the beach that her family owns.
My mother joined with us too. She is riding in Shane's parents. We, youngsters were riding in one vehicle, my car because we can all fit in. Her only best friend Macy is with us too.
Exactly 7 o'clock in the morning is our call time. Shane's parents and my mother are ready to drive off because it was three hours' drive to the beach. They brought with them some of the foods to be cook. Some snacks were in my car already.
"Zander, my boy, be careful on the road okay. We will go ahead first and do not take too long just tell them to hurry." Dr. Cox smiled.
"Okay, Dr. Cox do not worry they are in good hands." I said waving goodbye to them.
I waited a couple of minutes when Shayla came out first with her backpack.
"Hi sweet pea." I said as get closer to her.
Rolling her eyes on me, smiling. "Hi"
"Happy birthday" I greeted her.
"Well, thank you Finn" she smiled.
She was about to open the back door but I stopped her. She glanced at me with blank expression.
"You sit in the front seat," I commanded. She looks confuse but did not argue.
Shane came out and locked the front door of the house. He went to sit at the back of me then Macy came just the same time with Jonathan and her girlfriend Cherry.
"Hello besh! Hello everyone." I heard Macy say. "Where should I sit?"
"You sit beside me sweetheart." Shane replied with grin.
"Whatever…" As she goes inside my car then sits beside Shane. Jonathan and Cherry were in the last back.
We can still hear Shane and Macy like a dog and cat fighting but using words only. I do not know why Shane keeps on teasing Macy all the time when he sees her.
I glanced at Shay once in a while as I drove along the highway. She was quiet all the time looking outside the window. I turned on the radio and the DJ's says the song title Gorgeous by Taylor Swift.
I began hearing someone is singing when it plays. I turned my head beside me and it was Shay. It was not loud but we can hear her.
She got a very nice voice and it was my first time to know that she can sing very well. Her voice begun louder when the chorus came and Macy joined her.
'You're so gorgeous
I can't say anything to your face
cause look at you face
And I'm so furious
At you for making me feel this way
But what can I say?
You're gorgeous.'
I looked at mirror and I almost burst to laugh looking at Shane. He was shocked too that her sister and Macy can sing so well then glanced at me smirking.
I enjoyed the trip going to the beach knowing the ride was not dull even Jonathan's girlfriend joined singing too. I shook my head and smirking while driving.
'What a Sweet 16…'
