Chapter 428: Extra 9: Kyubi meets Kyubi (19)*

"No!" - Akeno exclaimed as she glared at her father in fury - "I'm not going to let you do it!"

"Akeno, please" - said Baraquiel, but was interrupted by his daughter's attack - "I'm not going to let you take my mother away from me again!"

Baraquiel fell silent after hearing her daughter's words, then sighed regretfully and turned away.

"Baraquiel" - Shuri muttered as she looked at her husband while a growing fury appeared inside her.

"That's all?!" - Akeno exclaimed as she burst into tears. She couldn't resist it anymore, the tears wouldn't stop - "You're just going to walk away, just like that?!"

"I thought I could do it, but no, I can't" - Baraquiel murmured as he looked at his daughter with growing guilt inside him - "It's impossible, my guilt won't let me keep going, and seeing Shuri again, made me much more aware of my failure!"

Akeno bit her lip before rushing into the house with an expression of utter desolation.

"Baraquiel" - Shuri muttered as she clenched her fist in fury - "I hope you're happy."

". . ." - Baraquiel only kept silent as he listened to his beloved wife's words.

"With this, you broke the last hope you had left to get your family back" - Shuri continued as she bit her lip to the point that it was starting to bleed - "Not only you don't try to remedy the situation, but you also act as a son of a bitch."

Baraquiel tried to defend himself but fell silent when he noticed the look on his former wife's face.

"Was this what you wished for?" - Shuri asked as she gave her husband one last look - "To see your daughter break down in tears while you don't dare to stop her, to talk to her, to try to remedy things?"

"Shuri, I" - Baraquiel said, but froze when he noticed the icy stare she was giving him.

"I don't want to see you, Baraquiel" - Shuri replied as she turned around and prepared to enter the residence - "At least not anytime soon."

Shuri slammed the door shut, leaving the devastated Fallen Angel not knowing what to do. He knew he had lost his last chance, but at the same time conflicting feelings welled up inside him.

He longed to be with his family again, but at the same time, he was aware that he had no right to do so, not with all he had done to fail them.

"I hope this is for the best" - Baraquiel murmured before retreating from the place, not noticing how Shuri stood with her back leaning against the door of the residence as tears ran down her cheeks. She was indeed waiting for Baraquiel to call her so she could find a new starting point, but things didn't go as she wished - "Baraquiel."

"You're a jerk" - Azazel said as he saw how his brother had returned with an unreadable expression on his face. He had been watching everything because he wanted his brother's happiness, but even he had to admit that Baraquiel was acting like the biggest son of a bitch, and he was an expert on the subject - "Why did you do that?"

"Because I don't deserve them" - Baraquiel replied as he continued walking towards his residence.

"It wasn't your fault" - Azazel said as he sighed regretfully.

"It was!" - Baraquiel exclaimed as he gave him a sharp look - "I failed to save the woman of my life, I failed to protect my daughter when she needed me the most, I didn't even see her for all these years!"

Azazel was silent when he heard this - "You're going to regret it, brother."

"I have done so for years, Azazel" - muttered Baraquiel as he gave him one last look before retreating.

"Maybe" - Azazel muttered, only to shake his head - "No, it's still too soon."

"Till death do us part" - muttered Shuri as she sighed regretfully.

It had been 15 minutes since Baraquiel had left and Akeno was still locked in her room.

"Are you okay?" - Yasaka asked as she saw how Shuri seemed to have cried out.

"I'm fine, though if I'm being honest, I was hoping it would be Kurama-sama coming to comfort me" Shuri replied as she looked at the blonde woman.

"I was going to, but I told him to leave it to me while he talks to Akeno" - Yasaka replied with a smile - "Let's just say it's not the best time for you to talk with him, not when you're so vulnerable."

"And you say it's okay for him to talk to Akeno?" - Shuri asked sarcastically. She had noticed the interest her daughter had developed in Kurama - "She's much worse off than I am."

"I know, but let's be honest, she needs to talk with him" - Yasaka replied as she folded her arms.

"Well, you have a point" - muttered Shuri, after all, there was no better help than the support of that special person.

"What are you thinking?" - Yasaka asked as she looked at her 'servant'.

"Honestly, I thought he would at least try to mend his relationship with us" - Shuri replied as she shook her head - "But it seems that it was just my wishes."

"It wasn't the best meeting" - Yasaka said while looking at the woman with sympathetic eyes.

"It wasn't a reunion" - Shuri replied as tears started to run down her cheeks - "It was a final closure, an abrupt end. He will no longer appear in front of me or Akeno, possibly because my presence is a constant reminder of his failure."

Yasaka sighed regretfully as he put his hand on the woman's shoulder.

"You know. I'm sure they would have managed to repair their relationship if I wasn't alive" - Shuri muttered as a sad smile appeared on her face.

"Don't think like that" - said Yasaka as she took the woman by the shoulders and looked her straight in the eyes "You are the most important support for Akeno now that his father is no more"

"You're right" - muttered Shuri as she nodded firmly.

Kurama let out a sigh after leaving Akeno's room. The poor girl was a wreck and could only calm down after Kurama talked to her for 30 minutes and promised her some things.

"Is she okay?" - Gabriel asked with concern as he watched the Kitsune leave his niece's room.

"She is resting" - replied Kurama as he shook his head regretfully - "I understand what he thinks, but there were other ways to do it."

"Baraquiel doesn't want to continue feeling pain" - replied Gabriel as she shook her head - "It may be hypocritical of him, but I'm sure he thinks it's for their sake as well."

"We all have suffered losses during our lives, but we have to overcome them to move on" - Kurama replied as he frowned - "What Baraquiel is doing is just an act of cowardice, after all, he is hurting his wife and daughter, and in the worst possible way"

Gabriel was silent when she heard this because she did not argue to defend her brother.

"I think we'd better leave that conversation until here" - Kurama said as his expression relaxed when he heard how some small footsteps approached where they were.

"Tousan!" - Kunou exclaimed as he ran to his father - "I finally found you!"

"Is something wrong, my little princess?" asked Kurama as he picked up the little Kitsune in his arms, though his expression changed slightly when he noticed how Kunou was holding something in her arms - "What is it you're carrying?"

"Look, Tousan, I found a new friend!" - Kunou replied as he showed him a small silver fox that appeared to be malnourished - "But it's weak."

"What happened to the mother?" - Kurama asked as he frowned as he could tell the little guy hadn't eaten in days and was on his last legs.

"She" - muttered Kunou as her eyes clouded with sadness.

"Wuwu ~" - the little fox slowly opened his eyes as he began to cry.

"He's calling for his mother" - murmured Kurama as he took the little guy carefully - "Easy, you're safe".

"Wu ~" - the little fox howled again as he looked around for his mother - "Wu!"

"Poor little guy" - said Gabriel as she started to cry as she felt how the little animal was suffering.

"Calm down" - murmured Kurama as he stroked the little animal's silver fur and made it sleep - "I promise everything will be alright when you wake up."

The little fox gave him one last look before slowly closing his eyes. Something told him he could trust the man was watching over him.

"What do you plan to do?" - Gabriel asked as she looked at the white-haired man.

"He doesn't deserve to live without his mother, not when he's so young," Kurama replied as he snapped his fingers.

Kunou and Gabriel's eyes widened in surprise as they saw the inert body of the mother Fox.

"Poor little girl" - Gabriel muttered as he saw how the fox was with clear signs that she was stoned to death - "How can anyone be so cruel".

"I wonder the same thing" - Kurama replied as he felt his blood begin to boil with rage, after all, he was a fox too and it was painful to see the little kitsune orphaned.
