Chapter 26: Interlude (Part 1) - Quin And Isan

Noah had been training with Quin for nearly 3 months, the time had flown by. They had spent weeks doing rigorous training. Focusing on teaching Noah how to write and spell and spar. At this point, Noah had already started to build his sword techniques into stronger muscle memory.

When he first woke up, Noah would hunt down some breakfast for himself and his Master before they would start practising writing. His handwriting was awful, looking like scribbled in different directions. His writing hand would always shake just before writing and neither of them had figured out what was happening to him then.

After practising until an hour before the sun hit the middle of the sky, they would go and spar in front of the house. Noah had become used to willing the magic particles into his body and using them to his advantage, every time they would spar the day after his injuries would be healed and he would have a lot more control at collecting the magic particles to where he needed and using it to boost his power when he needed.

Once they had finally tired themselves out they would lay down for a while outside in the sun, recovering from their magic sword sparring. On one of those afternoons, Noah was laying staring into the clouds between the leaves of the trees.

Letting his mind wander to how his mother might be doing, with her healer training, how the Dragon Troopers that had escorted him to the capital were doing and how Isan was doing. Turning his head to Quin, "Master, how did you and Sir Isan meet?"

Quin, who was laying there with his eyes closed breathing in slowly and breathing out just as slow stopped. Opening his left eye and looking at Noah, before deciding to tell him the story.

- "I suppose it isn't that big of a deal. Isan and I have long known each other, back when we were first growing up we met at Hunter Academy when we were maybe 11 or 12. We had both already met our partner dragons and that was really the only thing that connected us. We were very different people. I was a loner, I enjoyed my partner's company and that was it. Interacting with other Nobes was one of my worse nightmares which saddened my family.

You haven't met any other than Isan, I take it? He is one of the better ones. When you become a knight you will find some Nobles are closer to monsters than humans but you have to be the person that stops those ones. Otherwise, things will get out of hand very quickly...

I would ignore anything they did wrong and just moved on, Isan wasn't quite like me. He would stand up against anything that the other nobles did wrong, no matter what it was. That's what made me respect him at the start.

We passed through our school time quicker than the change of tides. I made my bond with Leora at a younger age than most would bond with their partners, whenever I had free time I would be with her which probably helped us a lot more.

At only 14, I woke up one day and could just feel her presence no matter where I was, at first I thought it was a trick from magic but she told me she felt it too and when I eventually told my family I was quickly sent to Boot Camp.

I was taken in by the commander of the camp as being a rejected noble from my family, which was rather entertaining. I spent two years there before meeting Isan again, I had already grown as close as I could with Leora. My issue was teamwork with others..."

I didn't get on with the acting squad leaders, other than one. Henry Terrance..." Going silent the wind was the only sound made for a few seconds while Quin went into deep thought. His eyes screwed together for those few seconds before he continued on with his story.

"Isan was assigned to my squad and it was thanks to Quin and Henry that I was able to come out of my shell and go from being a normal Dragon Trooper to an acting sergeant. As it was only boot camp it was just to give you an idea of the roles, but you have to earn them in boot camp just as you would outside of it.

I got promoted thanks to being able to clearly order the team during training exercises and it was thanks to Isan asking the team to help me grow that they followed me without much resistance; he is exceedingly charismatic. A pain in the ass but charismatic and kind.

We would run all different kinds of scenarios in boot camp but our favourite was capture the leader. There would be six squads split into two different teams, choosing which acting captain would be the general and which would become the VIP leader who would be captured. I would normally run a small squad with Isan and sneak attack the enemy VIP before knocking them off their dragon and taking them to the safe point.

It was great fun but sometimes training becomes pretty realistic..

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Falling_Silence Falling_Silence

This is an interlude while I get your opinions if I should continue the current volume or break it away into the next part of the story.

It helps give us an understanding of Quin and Isan's relationship and I hope its an enjoyable short story that builds into the world.

Let me know what you think!

Follow up to those who have already read this chapter, I am releasing the second part of this short story in half an hour from this one. As this wasn't meant to be released until the 12th. I apologise.

I have made some small edits, but not as many as I expected. I still hope you can enjoy!
