Chapter 25: Chapter Twenty Five - Quins Training (Part 1)

"Let's talk about basic magic and how you can learn to control it better. There are many different ways to do so, I wasn't going to tell you about them, however... I can see you have been experimenting anyways." Making Noah shift uncomfortably.

"Different techniques have been made over the years and specialised for the people learning from them. The two ways I have had you try with me were our sparring matches. That is how I first noticed you could use magic and the other through the meditation technique." Quin used his magic against his spatial necklace to procure his pipe, lighting it and taking a deep drag.

"If a technique doesn't match the person who is trying to grow their control over their magic it can end with them accidentally hurting or even killing themselves, which is why I only want you to practice in front of me."

Blowing smoke out of his nostrils and letting that settle in. Noah gulped, realising out how foolish he had been and how thankful he was that the ring had sucked in all the magic aura he had released the day prior.

"There are a few meditation techniques that I could teach you but the easiest will be the one that helps grow your control. When you close your eyes and take in the magic particles in the air, instead of holding them at your chest, push them around your body. Make them move all around your body before taking them back in the centre. The easiest way to do it is in a circuit."

Quin took his time to stand up, letting a puff of smoke out before moving to his chest in the corner of the room. Opening it and taking out a sand turner and a small blackboard with chalk.

"Before we let you start practising magic so easily let's get your general education in order first. Let's take our time with this and once you learn basic spelling and reading we can move on to basic maths."

...

The days passed quickly for both Noah and Quin after settling into a pattern where Noah would wake first and hunt enough meat for both of them before having a bath and preparing for the day. Once he had bathed, Quin would sit next to Noah and write the few letters of the alphabet and make him redraw them to make sure he was getting them right.

It only took a few days for Noah to memorise the alphabet but understanding grammar and making words were something he had an issue with no matter how much Quin taught him. He soon developed a method where Noah would have to break a word down and then put it together with just the sounds of the alphabet, it helped speed up his progress a lot more.

As days passed and turned into weeks Quin would always check on Noah's bones each day, not sure if he should let him spar or not. It was something he knew Noah should be doing but didn't understand what kept healing him at nights.

After a fortnight had passed he decided they would change their schedule to sparring during the day and get Noah to focus on his skills he had learned before meeting himself and to help push Noah's power out when using magic.

...

On their first day back at sparring, they stood opposite each other on the grass between the house and the lake. Not moving, just staring into the eyes of each other. Quin was nonchalantly waving his sword in one hand, warming himself up for the fight.

Noah, on the other hand, could feel himself get nervous, after not fighting in two weeks or practising his sword techniques he already felt rusty. Just raising and lowering his sword he felt a little weaker.

Getting into stance, he prepared for the onslaught from his Master, after sparring with him just a few times Noah knew that he would push his opponent to furthest he could.

Smirking, Quin pushed off using magic to make him rush in faster. Slicing at Noah's waist who barely managed to deflect the blade. Gripping his sword tighter he stabbed at his Master who easily took a few steps back before coming in with harder hits.

Quin wasn't letting up in his barrage, he had a feeling that Noah had some natural ability to increase his magic power just from sparring until he was exhausted and that is how he planned to build the young mans magic abilities. The more power Noah had the more powerful his spells and aura would be.

He never gave Noah enough time to slack off, always coming in with a stronger hit over and over. Noah was forced to try and pull the magic particles in the air into himself and down and into his sword to feed stronger hits against his Master.

Even when Noah managed to completely spread his magic aura over his sword hard hits weren't enough for him to win against his master, he knew he had to get faster and quicker. Rolling out of one of the stabs from his Master and then pushing off a root that he just happened to roll beside, to try and slice up at Quin's chin.

Without realising it, he pushed magic into his legs, arms and into his sword. When Noah's sword sliced at Quin, he couldn't completely avoid Noah's sword cut but thanks to being able to sense the change of magic in Noah he knew to at least be somewhat prepared for something unexpected but didn't think it would be that.

Taking a few steps back, he let his hand touch his chin and feel the blood drip down and onto the floor. A smirk slowly appeared on Quin's face, "Good Job, Kid. Can you keep it up?"

Noah smiled wildly, letting his sword swing in a circle before taking his stance again. Feeling powerful from that attack, he pressed on fighting with all his might.

Every swing had more magic force behind it, which let him push back Quin further and further. Quin started to fight harder and use magic a little more to keep up the pace. Their swords met and they had to keep pushing at each other to see who would win.

....

Both Quin and Noah were sitting back on the grass and taking in deep breaths, their swords were chipped and Noah's had a large crack along the centre of the blade. Both smiling, Quin looked at Noah, "How was that? Can you feel the magic when you fight?"

"Yes, it's amazing. I feel like I have so much energy when I fight with it. I just don't have as much control as I would like..." Squeezing his swords handle, letting the magic particles he gathered in his chest out into the sword.

Holding it up in the air, seeing the sun glare against the chipped metal. a black aura slowly covered the sword, there were no signs of the pulsing white light from the first time he used magic like that Quin noticed.

"For the time being, we will continue to train your magic like this building it up and using it as a way to help focus your control." Using his magic against his spatial necklace and taking out two orange potions.

Handing one to Noah, "Here, this will help restore your energy. Using magic is draining." Gulping his down within seconds before pulling out a blue potion and slowly sipping it, closing his eyes and savouring the taste.

Noah paced himself as he drunk the orange potion, the feeling of warmth spreading around him warmed his heart. The feeling reminded him of how the magic felt when he used it. Closing his eyes and thinking of how he could control his magic faster than sparring, his hand reaching for the ring against his chest..

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Falling_Silence Falling_Silence

I think this is where I will end the first volume of Noah's story, travelling from the village to the capital didn't quite go to plan but I enjoyed it. Setting things in place for the second volume where Noah has more to come, I am already sure you have your own guesses, let me know in the comments. I will start working on the next volumes first chapter, I still am not too sure I want to focus on Noah's training too much, I know some books make it boring and I don't quite have faith I can do it as well as some of them. The next chapter released will be the start of the second volume but it might have a small-time cut of a few months.

I hope you have enjoyed the novel so far, I haven't released anything I have worked on before and it is a great feeling to see comments and people sending power stones to show their enjoyment of the story.

I hope you will continue to follow Noah's story with me where it starts to come into fruition more.
