Chapter 411: Chapter 411/55: Learning About This Weird World II

[Camara University]

Situated inside the room wherein Professor Shella was discussing about the matter of space distortion, she then proceeded to lecture her whole class as she occasionally glances towards Lilia, seemingly she highly regarded Lilia's intellect as a whole. Nevertheless she wouldn't openly show favoritism to her whole class

What's unexpected to her on the other hand was just how the person beside Lilia was actually paying attention to her lecture in comparison to about 70% of her original class, since the person was actually paying attention to her while not disrupting her lecture, she just temporarily ignored him as she talked further on

But upon seeing on how the lecture was getting deeper into the topic about the mysterious existence of the dungeon, Lilia then further focuses on her class as she somehow and unknowingly started to compete against Kaido in terms of concentration, causing numerous students around them to be taken aback, especially some of the girls near her

"Partly inspired by string theory's perceived failings, other physicists have turned to an alternative called Loop Quantum Gravity (LQG). They can get the two theories to play nicely if they do away with one of the central tenets of general relativity: That space-time is a smooth, continuous fabric. Instead, they argue, space-time is made up of a series of interwoven loops — that it has structure at the smallest size scales. This is a bit like a length of cloth. At first glance it looks like one smooth fabric. Look closely, however, and you'll see it is really made of a network of stitches. Alternatively, think of it like a photograph on a computer screen: Zoom in, and you'll see it is really made of individual pixels" lecture professor Shella as she pointed out some areas in her own projected PowerPoint

"But they say according to various scientist a certain force was at play... Miss Evergreen! just what sort of power was in display?" asks Professor Shella as she called out Lilia from among the crowd of students

Hearing her name, Lilia actually stood up from her seat as she answered, while numerous eyes were directed at her

(Sys:" Calm down Host! and carefully answer!!!")

"Um... Gravity or better yet simple Gravitational waves..." answered Lilia

"And why do you think so? Please explain!!!"

"Well... Gravity must be caused by an agent acting constantly according to certain laws;  but whether this agent be material or immaterial, I have left to the consideration to even myself... Nevertheless gravitational waves should permanently distort space-time" said Lilia

"..."

"The "gravitational memory effect" predicts that a passing gravitational wave should forever alter the structure of space-time. Physicists have linked the phenomenon to fundamental cosmic symmetries and a potential solution to the black hole information paradox... the first detection of gravitational waves about 30 years ago provided decisive confirmation of the general theory of relativity. But another astounding prediction remains unconfirmed: According to general relativity, every gravitational wave should leave an indelible imprint on the structure of space-time. It should permanently strain space, displacing the mirrors of a gravitational wave detector even after the wave has passed" added Lilia

"I see... then how much gravity do you think it needed to distort space?" asks Professor Shella

"I'm afraid i cant answer that, since seemingly the amount of gravity needed to distort space is unmeasurable at all, it will need a specialist to compute it their whole life just to solve such equation... maybe even generations or research" answered Lilia

"Is that so? Is gravity the only power at play here? does anyone still have a different answer?"

As Professor Shella asks that towards everyone, Kaido on the other hand unknowingly stood up without being called out and said his point of view

"I think matter has a chance to distort space, seemingly everything is made up[ of matter, and the only thing that can best a matter are atoms... which is unlikely at all"

"Matter? What a peculiar answer? Can you please elaborate?" asks Professor Shella

"According to the theory, matter and energy distort space-time, curving it around themselves. 'Frame dragging' theoretically occurs when the rotation of a large body 'twists' nearby space and time. Just as a bowling ball placed on a trampoline stretches the fabric and causes it to sag, so planets and stars warp space-time - a phenomenon known as the 'geodetic effect'. A marble moving along the trampoline will be drawn inexorably towards the ball. Thus the planets orbiting the Sun are not being pulled by the Sun; they are following the curved space-time deformation caused by the Sun. The reason the planets never fall into the Sun is because of the speed at which they are travelling" answered Kaido

In that moment as if to object Kaido's claim, Lilia then stood up once more and objected Kaido's answer causing everyone in the class and Professor Shella to be astounded as the lecture turned into debate

"Matter does not contribute to the expansion of space due to its energy. It is sometimes referred to as dust in mathematical models. But its gravity does contribute to the contraction of the universe" said Lilia skeptically

"You just cant generalize matter as a whole, seemingly it has different branches... in particular I'm thinking of dark matter, which could literally crate a blackhole... in one sense black hole is another form of space distortion as it can also distort light itself" replied Kaido

"But black hole is also a form of gravity, other words a mass.  All its mass makes a combined gravitational pull on all the mass in the body. That's what gives it weight" said Lilia

"I know... but dark matter does not interact directly with radiation, but it does affect the cosmic microwave background (CMB) by its gravitational potential (mainly on large scales) and by its effects on the density and velocity of ordinary matter. Ordinary and dark matter perturbations, therefore, evolve differently with time and leave different imprints on the CMB... The cosmic microwave background is very close to a perfect blackbody but contains very small temperature anisotropies of a few parts in 100,000. A sky map of anisotropies can be decomposed into an angular power spectrum, which is observed to contain a series of acoustic peaks at near-equal spacing but different heights. The series of peaks can be predicted for any assumed set of cosmological parameters by modern computer codes such as CMBFAST and CAMB, and matching theory to data, therefore, constrains cosmological parameters.  The first peak mostly shows the density of baryonic matter, while the third peak relates mostly to the density of dark matter, measuring the density of matter and the density of atoms" said Kaido

"Now your just making up words" complained Lilia

"No I'm not... for a matter of fact Dark Matter is a physical particle that we cannot observe because it doesn't interact with the electromagnetic force. We know it exists because we can see it's effect on gravity when observing normal matter. dark matter, dark energy and matter is everywhere, an make up what is known as the Baryonic Ratio." said Kaido

Upon hearing the two people bickering each other to the point that they are going off topic, everyone couldn't help but be shocked at this situation a they all thought the same word in their mind

"Goddamn!!!"

As this goes on for awhile, Professor Shella couldn't help it anymore as she started intervene between the conversation between the two, while inquiring on what proof they stand for

"Um.. I know its quite rude of me to interject between you two, but i just want to know... On what ground do you prove your claims? also bare in mind that the main topic is something related to space distortion, so i please don't go off topic"

Hearing her words, Kaido then immediately comply

"You want proof? Fine! As i was saying Dark matter does not bend light itself; mass (in this case the mass of the dark matter) bends spacetime. Light follows the curvature of spacetime, resulting in the lensing effect"

"Lensing effect, you mean gravitational lens which distribution of matter between a distant light source and an observer, that is capable of bending the light from the source as the light travels toward the observer?" asks  Professor Shella

"Yes! A gravitational lens that occur when a huge amount of matter, like a cluster of galaxies, creates a gravitational field that distorts and magnifies the light from distant galaxies that are behind it but in the same line of sight. The effect is like looking through a giant magnifying glass" answered Kaido

"In the end it still falls to the category of gravity" commented Lilia

"Its a yes and no, since they are both mixed in this equation... Weak gravitational lensing investigates minute distortions of galaxies, using statistical analyses from vast galaxy surveys. By examining the apparent shear deformation of the adjacent background galaxies, the mean distribution of dark matter can be characterized. The mass-to-light ratios correspond to dark matter densities predicted by other large-scale structure measurements, thus my stand on dark matter... Also i believe that strange matter can also achieve such an effect, unfortunately i have no definitive proof for it and had little knowledge about it, all i know about strange matter is that they have one of the most bizarre characteristic that it is contagious." said Kaido

"Strange matter? That's the first time I've heard of it" commented Professor Shella

"Of course it is... After all the information regarding strange matter is so few and limited that it is good not knowing instead" replied Kaido

"I see... By the way just how many matter is there?" asks Professor Shella

"I don't know... aside from the  four natural states of matter: Solids, liquids, gases and plasma. I'm pretty sure that there are a lot more than meets the eye" said Kaido

Hearing that Professor Shella simply nodded in understanding as she proceeded to turn her attention towards Lilia

"What about you miss Evergreen? do you have additional information regarding your claim? anything new that we haven't known yet?"

"Nope! I'm out! I've already said everything i had in mind"

With that Professor Shella pondered on her thought for a bit as she silently nodded before asking the whole class

"I see... well that was some hell of a debate over who is right and who is wrong, but pushing that scene aside, does anyone have other answer aside from gravity and matter?"

As she ask this question, numerous student then became silent as everyone looked at each other for answers, while some tried to tease their buddies to stand up and answer the professor. Unfortunately no one answered despite the silence continuing on for about a minute already

Seeing that all of her students became meek with nothing to answer at all, Professor Shella simply sigh in dejection as she felt disappointed for her students for being outdone by an outsider, while wishing for someone to speak out his or her mind even if its wrong

Just as she wished, another hand suddenly got raised up in the air causing her to be liven up once again as she felt proud to that one brave student of hers, but before she could even rejoice, she then found out that the person who raised up his arm was none other than the outsider himself once more

"What about Redshift-space distortions? a three-dimensional map of the galaxy distribution. These maps are slightly distorted because distances are estimated from observed redshifts; the redshift contains a contribution from the galaxy's so-called peculiar velocity in addition to the dominant Hubble expansion term. On average, superclusters are expanding more slowly than the cosmic mean due to their gravity, while voids are expanding faster than average. In a redshift map, galaxies in front of a supercluster have excess radial velocities towards it and have redshifts slightly higher than their distance would imply, while galaxies behind the supercluster have redshifts slightly low for their distance. This effect causes superclusters to appear squashed in the radial direction, and likewise voids are stretched. Their angular positions are unaffected. This effect is not detectable for any one structure since the true shape is not known, but can be measured by averaging over many structures." said Kaido

After stating his mind, Kaido then went silent as he waited for Professor Shella to step out from her trance and somehow pick up the class once more

"I see... alright!.. Lets move on" said Professor Shella as she moved the lesson to another peculiar topic which ended Kaido's spree

With that the class continued on as the topic shifted while Kaido and Lilia always bickering at each other for the correct conclusion of their answer, in the end the class became something on the line of rowdy due to this two geniuses

After awhile the class of Professor Shella then finally ended as all the students within the room begun to exit for the doorway, alongside it Professor Shella herself then took the chance of this dismissal as she called out towards Asagi to have a little talk with her, of course Kaido was pulled along as he was a bit curious on this situation

When they got unto the podium wherein Professor Shella reside, Lilia then immediately took the initiative to apologize towards her due to the scene that she and Kaido had created which somehow disrupted the atmosphere of her class

"Professor Shella! I'm deeply sorry! We totally acted a bit childish over there, we will never do it again"

Hearing her apology, Professor Shella then cocked her head ti the side in confusion as she cleared up the misunderstanding in the situation

"Why are you apologizing? Is there a need for an apology?"

"Well we did disrupted your class right? It was totally our fault, right Kaido?" Asks Lilia as she seemingly trying to find an accomplice towards this matter

Sensing her intention, Kaido immediately retorted back

"Why are you asking me for? This is all on you!"

"What the... don't deny it! We are in this together! You and I both knew that we disrupted her class because of our bickering" insisted Lilia

"Just why are you trying to pull me im into this mess? Stop lumping me the same as you" replied used Kaido

"Hah! Last time I saw it, you were the one who insist on his own theory without any proof... do you even have any evidence towards your claim?" Asked Lilia

"Are you asking for the information I handed a few minutes ago is legitimate? Are you suspecting that what I handed over was just something I made up? What a nerve you got" said Kaido with a scrutinizing gaze

"Oh yeah? Prove what I said is wrong... come on! Prove it!" Said Lilia

"Alright! Fine! Fine! Do you know Albert Einstein?" Asked Kaido

"Albert Einstein? Whos that?" Asks Lilia

"Exactly!!! Such an answer proves my point!!!" Said Kaido as he showed an exaggerated applause

Seeing the exchanged between the two of them, Professor Shella then puts her hand across her chest as she somehow felt like watching a comedy show presenting right in front of her, of course with a cough she then interjected her own thoughts between the two of them

"So are you two lovebirds finished?"

Hearing her words, Lilia immediately blushed up in red as she quickly cleared the misunderstanding

"Wa-wait! We are not lovebirds! We barely knew each other! Your misunderstanding things Professor Shella"

"Is that so? Based on what I see both of you seemed to understand each other quite comfortably" said Professor Shella

"As I said! Its all a misunderstanding!"

As Lilia said those words, Professor Shella then sighed for a bit as she cleared her thoughts and begun addressing the reason why she called her

"Fine! Anyway...."

*********

Some few minutes had passed since the talk between Professor Shella and Lilia had happened, to be approximate it somehow lasted for about 15 minutes, by then the talk had been all about the theory that she had presented on her class

In fact Professor Shella was surprised towards the theory that she and Kaido had presented to the point that she was amazed, if such theory was put into process, she then assumed that such theory would then be plausible

Nevertheless no one would actually put a thought unto a theory presented by a student, after all if such a student doesn't have any eye catching background of success towards a certain branch in science, such plausible sounding theory would be able to garner that too much attention

However Professor Shella still thanked the beth of them for speaking out their thoughts

With that ending right there both Kaido and Lilia were then currently walking along the corridor of the university as Kaido simply asked Lilia about her itinerary for the day

"So what now? Any plans?"

"Well... how about we got get some food?" Asked Lilia as she gestured herself eating a burger

"Your hungry?" Asked Kaido

"Not much! But due to the intense atmosphere in Professor Shella's class, I think I'm up for a bite or two" answered Lilia

"I see"

With that itinerary at hand, both Kaido and Lilia then proceeded to head towards the cafeteria as they eat away their break before heading towards her next class, of course her schooling lasted for about till the mid hour of the afternoon and after her schooling both of them then headed out towards the rendezvous point of the dungeon that she was scheduled for the day

Naturally she would meet up with her colleague in dungeon for the day, Shelly

But with the circumstances that Kaido was around, Lilia then had no choice but to think up of an excuse towards the situation

The location of the dungeon that she was scheduled is quite faraway, thus in order to arrive on time both Kaido and Lilia then quickly bought tickets and rode on a fast moving train towards their destination
